😍⚜ Nice shot of Canal Street near Bourbon in the early 1900's. Many moons ago! I always like the images with people. Seeing the clothes and styles of dress back in time fascinates me. And, look at those hand tufted seats in the cars. GORGEOUS! *colorized*

⚜️Pete’s Place - French Quarter ⚜️

🤩 800 Bourbon Street 🤩

⚜️ Pete Fountain learned jazz from listening to Benny Goodman and jazz musicians in the French Quarter. ⚜️

⚜️ He played with the Dukes of Dixieland and then started his own band. ⚜️

⚜️ In 1957 Lawrence Welk hired him for his show. ⚜️

⚜️ Fountain played with Welk until 1959 when he returned home as a national celebrity. Dubbed “Mr. New Orleans,” Fountain appeared on the Johnny Carson show 59 times. ⚜️

⚜️ He opened Pete Fountain’s French Quarter Inn in 1960 at 800 Bourbon Street, and in 1969 moved to 231 Bourbon. ⚜️

⚜️ He later moved to the Riverside Hilton, where he played until 2003. ⚜️

Really cool photo of Decatur Street in the late 1930's. You can see the train cars to the far right. This view is no longer b/c of major landscape/structural changes. One of which is the barrier wall/flood gate thingy (🤪) put in place by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect the city during storms.
