Meet Jacques: The Gentle Giant in Need of a Forever Home!

Jacques is an impressive 80-pound American Staffordshire Terrier/Cane Corso mix with a heart as big as his stature. When he first arrived at his foster home, his size and presence were immediately noticeable, but his true nature soon shone through.

Found malnourished and abandoned at a rural dumping ground, Jacques had a rough start. Despite his intimidating appearance, he quickly proved to be a "gentle giant." He loves to curl up in his foster dad's lap like a small dog, pressing his massive head against his foster dad's cheek and soaking up all the affection he can get.

Jacques has a remarkable ability to connect with people. On walks and outings to the local bar, he greets everyone he meets with enthusiastic tail wags and a friendly lean into their legs, as if they were long-lost friends. Back at home, he shows the same warmth to the other dogs. He carefully navigates around the older dogs, ensuring he doesn't knock them over, and offers gentle kisses through the bars of their enclosures.

At just 3 years old, Jacques is full of energy and loves engaging in fun activities. He’s house-trained, neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on his vaccinations, making him ready for a new chapter in his life.

Jacques was happily adopted a few months ago, and his new dad adored him. Unfortunately, due to medical issues, his dad could no longer care for him and had to place Jacques in boarding at his vet. It soon became clear that his dad wouldn’t be able to return home, so Jacques is now looking for a new forever family who can give him the love and attention he deserves.

This special sweetheart of a dog is 80 pounds of pure love, eagerly waiting to bring joy and companionship to his new family. Someone will be incredibly lucky to welcome Jacques into their home. Could that be you?

🚨🚨URGENT: FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED🚨🚨

Hi there! My name is Forest. I last weighed in at 60 pounds and I'm guessed to around 2.5 years old. I am up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and am almost done with my heartworm treatment.

Im a fun loving pup that loves cuddles, swimming in pillows and blankets and playing with you and my toys! I have lived with other dogs before, some I enjoyed more than others. I'm friends with everyone at the dog park but I prefer calmer dogs for my at home life. I’m cat neutral with my caretakers/family being my most favorite beings by far! I have a big goofy smile when I’m extra happy and have been nicknamed pigtails for my perky ears and gleaming personality.

I've had some ups and downs along my journey, probably because I didn't have a great life before coming to Take Paws Rescue. I've done great with leash training and love to go on long walks (once I’m done with my heartworm treatment) I Can show you some cool tricks too! As well as having fantastic recall. I have some human friends called fosters that I enjoy showing affection and loving to, but unfortunately I need a new foster family because I haven’t been the best with their small pocket pets.
The rescue wanted me to be the best that I can be, so I have completed the "Board and Train" program that’s resulted in the most elegant of walks and new household expectations of me that I practice/improve on daily. I'm excited to continue these habits with my future family!

Hello everyone, my name is Stella. I had a close call recently—I was on the euthanasia list when my foster family stepped in to rescue me. I had just finished nursing a litter of puppies when they saved me. The vet estimates I'm about 5-6 years old, possibly a Pointer mix, weighing around 40 pounds. I'm quite shy at first, but once I warm up to you, I'm incredibly sweet. There's not an aggressive bone in my body.

I adore being around other dogs, especially seniors, and I get along great with babies, children, and adults alike. I have no interest in my foster cat siblings. Puppies, though? Their boundless energy doesn't quite match my relaxed vibe. I'm a bit of a couch potato—I love lounging around and offering you my paw for pets.

Recently, I tested positive for heartworms, but I started treatment today, the cost of which will be covered by Take Paws Rescue. I'm up to date on vaccinations and will soon be spayed. Meet Elmer and his flying ears! Elmer came to Take Paws in pretty rough shape after being abandoned and tied to a pole, but with a little TLC he’s gained weight and has learned how to dog. Elmer is a little over a year old and 36 pounds of pure wiggle. He’s the sweetest boy and a total goof, known for some killer dance moves and his twinkle toes.

Elmer absolutely loves all humans and thinks they are the best thing on earth! He's good with dogs but isn't a fan of cats. Elmer loves doing his zoomies around the yard, sun bathing, and playing with his toys until he’s ready to doze off, preferably cuddled up next to a person.

Elmer is kennel trained (although he might show off his beagle voice for a bit) and potty trained. He’s still learning self control on a leash, but that just takes a little practice since it’s new to him. Elmer is ready to find his forever home, where he can run and play to his sweet heart’s content. And you can be sure that Elmer will stick to you like glue!

Hello there, I'm Annabelle. I may be a bit shy at first, but give me a moment and you'll see my sweet and friendly nature shine through. I'm a mellow soul, preferring quiet moments and gentle cuddles. I ended up in a rural shelter as part of a 19 dog hoarding case so my life started out living in deplorable conditions but that did not break my spirit, I’m a survivor! Since coming into rescue my days are now filled with simple joys like exploring new scents, or just lying down in a sunny spot and playing with my new foster brothers. I've got a heart full of love to give, and I'm just waiting for the right person to share it with. I’m 1.5 years old, weigh 12 lbs, UTD on vaccinations, spayed and HW neg! Tripp is a trip! He’s so loving and full of life. He is a masterpiece in the making. This beautiful boy is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and Hound mix and is estimated to be around a year and a half or so but still has some awesome puppy power energy.

Tripp is a professional snuggle-er. He will put his neck on your neck and rest his body in the biggest hug.

He loves playing with other dogs and definitely matches their energy. Tripp is also good with cats and kids. He does resource guard some with food but that is something he is working on. He loves toys!!! Tripp is pretty much potty trained but may have some accidents when he’s in a new place. He has a sensitive stomach so he needs food for sensitive stomachs.

Meet Merida! Merida is an adorable 15-pound Jack Russell Terrier mix, approximately 5 years old, with a delightful lap dog personality.

Initially, when Merida left the shelter, she was shy and spent her first two days in her kennel. However, the allure of breakfast sausages soon coaxed her out, and she quickly transformed into a happy, affectionate couch companion. It took Merida about 5-6 days to fully settle in and feel comfortable, and now that she has, her playful side has truly blossomed!

Merida loves to play with other dogs and has a joyful, social nature. When she's not engaged in a game with her furry friends, she enjoys following her people around the house. For relaxation, she either rests quietly in her puppy bed or cozies up next to her humans.

She is not only sweet and playful but also incredibly loving. Merida is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and while she is heartworm positive, she is asymptomatic and undergoing treatment. She is house and kennel-trained, making her an easy addition to any loving home.

Flash’s mom passed away and he needs a new home. Flash is a purebred 2.5yo, ~45lb Bull Terrier. We unfortunately don’t know much about him so he’ll need a foster with no other pets or children for now until we can assess his personality. He isn’t yet neutered and has never lived indoors, so likely not potty trained. Please apply if you can foster Flash and help him start his new life!

Jake is a 1.5 year old, 20lb loyal Boston terrier. He loves to snuggle, will follow you around just to hang out, and is doing well learning his stay, down, and jump. He’s also house trained and crate trained and is a true little Velcro dog! He loves a good run around but he is, at heart, a lazy beast who snores like a chainsaw. Jake requires a fenced backyard and quite home life. He does not enjoy walks, and he needs slow introductions to warm up when meeting new people outside of his family but he’s highly treat motivated so snacks always help. He needs to be the only dog in the home as he is scared of other dogs but has lived with many cats before and is comfortable sharing space with kitties. Jake is great on a leash and when the pavement is cooler for him and there aren’t so many scary other dogs out and about! He is ready to shower his person with love and loyalty, and you will never go to the restroom alone again on his watch!

You may remember Maybelle, posted a few days ago…found in the middle of the street with that heavy chain around her neck? Well, her foster can no longer keep her!! We URGENTLY need a new foster. She is currently at Metairie Small Animal Hospital and can be picked up today or tomorrow. She is good with other animals, but would benefit from a quiet, soft place to lay her head while she recovers and gains some strength🙏🏻

Sweet Mango was found abandoned, tied to a park bench without any food or water. She just sat there, quiet and confused, watching people walk by. It was obvious that she had given birth to a litter of puppies very recently. We have no idea what happened to Mango’s poor babies, but she was terrified and sad. Thankfully, a kind person brought her home and we were able to rescue Mango and show her the love she desperately craves.

Mango is guessed to be a Plott hound/pointer mix that is around 2 years old and 53 lbs. She does need to gain some post-baby weight as she was still nursing when she was dumped. Mango is good with other dogs, not so good with cats, does well in a kennel and seems to be potty trained. She loves her treats and just wants to stay close. Mango needs a FOSTER or FOREVER HOME to help put the light back in her sad puppy dog eyes and to teach her how great her life will be now that she’s been rescued!

Meet Brodenock, or Brody for short! Hailing from the highlands of Grant Parish Animal Control, Brody is a loyal companion in search of his forever home. Weighing 65 pounds and approximately 4 years old, this noble pup endured 131 days in confinement for a crime he didn’t commit. Now, he’s ready to find a loving family where he can truly belong.

Brody is wonderful with children, loves car rides, and enjoys being around people. He’s fully house-trained and gets along well with other dogs, except for males his size or larger. However, he’s not a fan of cats and would do best in a home without them.

With a heart full of love and a fondness for belly rubs, Brody dreams of a home with a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs and explore. He’s more than halfway through his heartworm treatment and is doing great, well on his way to a full recovery.

Meet Beauregard Jackson Picket Burnside, a charming 32-pound bundle of good-natured devotion. Named after the beloved character from "Auntie Mame," Beauregard is ready to bring joy and laughter into your life.

This sweet boy is a dedicated companion, happily spending his days by his mom's side while she works. Despite being hearing impaired, Beauregard doesn't bark much, except when he detects the presence of those sneaky felines he's not too fond of. While he may not harm them, he's quick to voice his disapproval of their slinkiness.

Urgent Help Needed for Sweet Betty! Dear Friends and Supporters, We urgently need your help for Betty, a gentle soul who recently joined our rescue from a rural shelter. Despite being young and testing negative for heartworms, Betty is struggling with heavy breathing (as seen in the video), even after minimal activity. We don't know anything about her past, but we are determined to give her the care she needs for a healthy future. Betty is now admitted to an emergency veterinary clinic and it is confirmed that she has fluid in her chest cavity. The cause is still unknown. She is currently in an oxygen tank, receiving relaxants and diuretics, which have eased her breathing somewhat. However, she will definitely need a chest tap and will have to stay at the clinic overnight. Additionally, Betty will very likely need to see a specialty cardiologist for further imaging to determine the root of her condition. We are expecting a hefty bill for these critical procedures, but we are committed to doing everything possible to give Betty a fighting chance. As a nonprofit rescue, these unexpected expenses are a heavy burden. ‼️Can you imagine living in this cage, in the heat and cold, for months on end, never leaving the cage, having no human contact or socialization of any kind? That’s what this pup and many like him endure, day in and day out. They’re in a very rural shelter where “good ole boys” club rules.
