Southern white rhino BFFs Bonnie and Yvonne love their fresh hay, scratches from their animal care team, and plenty of time rolling around in a muddy wallow. 🦏 🦏

Did you know? Bonnie is part of a pioneering conservation project to help save endangered rhino species. Our animal care and veterinary teams are working alongside rhino specialists to better understand rhinoceros reproductive systems and support global population conservation.

Among the world’s rhino conservation networks, every rhino is considered threatened. While species like the southern white rhino now number in the thousands, others, such as the Sumatran and Javan rhinos, have fewer than 50 individuals left in the wild.

With your support, Bonnie can play a vital role in saving her endangered cousins. Your gift helps ensure animals like Bonnie and Yvonne continue to receive the top-notch care they need to stay healthy and strong: bit.ly/3KzxYs2

There are two new faces in World of Primates - say hello to Obi and Lucy! 👋

Obi is a 10-year-old male mandrill from Jacksonville Zoo. Fun fact: he was born on May 4th and named after Star Wars' Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lucy is a 12-year-old female mandrill from Gladys Porter Zoo. She came to us on a breeding recommendation from The Association of Zoos and Aquariums to join Obi and help form a more natural mandrill troop.

In the wild, mandrill troops are large social groups with multiple females and males, including one dominant male. Following the recent passing of Mapema, our male mandrill, it's especially important for Kiburi, our younger male, to learn from a more dominant male like Obi as he matures.

Did you know your old electronics can help save wildlife? Rare earth minerals used to make cell phones and small electronics are often mined in areas that overlap with critical gorilla habitats. This mining contributes to habitat loss for already endangered gorilla populations.

Join our Gorillas on the Line campaign and make a real impact by donating your old cell phones and small electronics! ♻️ 🦍 📱

📅 Cell Phone Saturdays return June 28 (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.)! Drop off your old devices at the Gorillas on the Line recycling box near the Zoo’s gorilla habitat and receive a special keepsake from our gorillas as a thank you.

🦍 Enjoy family-friendly activities, meet our gorilla care team, and learn all about our troop. Each keeper chat features exclusive gorilla trading cards - collect them all while supplies last!

Heads up - it’s World Giraffe Day! 🦒 It’s the longest day of the year, so it’s only fitting that we celebrate the tallest land animal on the planet. World Giraffe Day shines a spotlight on all giraffe species and raises awareness about the threats they face in the wild, from habitat loss to poaching.

Our two male giraffes, Maverick and Fennessy, serve as ambassadors for their wild counterparts, helping inspire action and support for giraffe conservation. The number of giraffes in the wild has decreased by roughly 40 percent in the last few decades. Their numbers are impacted by conflicts with humans in their territory, habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, drought, and other changes in their environment. There are an estimated 117,000 giraffes left in the wild, including many subspecies that are critically endangered. Audubon Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and partners in efforts with other AZA zoos and aquariums to fund giraffe conservation education, scientific research, and works to raise public awareness of giraffes in the wild and in human care.

Fun fact: Fennessy was named after world-renowned giraffe conservationist and founder of World Giraffe Day - Julian Fennessy!
