🍅What is a community fridge? It is a zero-barrier (no documentation required) free food source maintained and used by the community it serves.
🍉Who runs the New Orleans Community Fridges? It is a mutual aid and community led initiative. It’s run by the New Orleans community at large and anyone who wants to be involved in taking care of these resources. Visit @nolacommunityfridges for more information on other locations. Since this is mutual aid, the community fridges have no headquarters, designated spokespeople, a central location, or central leadership.
🥒Who can take from the fridge and pantry? Anyone in need of food for any reason at any time of the day. Please be conscious of the needs of others. People are welcome to drop off food at any time of the day. Take what you need, leave what you can, do what you can!
🌹What can the fridge and pantry be stocked with? Fresh produce in good condition, pre-packaged meals (homemade or store bought), unopened non-perishable & canned goods, unopened drinks. We DO NOT ACCEPT: raw meat of any kind, rotten or otherwise dangerous food, and non food items like clothing.
🥕Who is responsible for keeping the fridge and pantry clean? While Recirculating Farms team members and volunteers regularly wipe down the fridge, cleaning is a community effort that is taken by anyone who wishes to participate. Please pick up any trash inside and around the shed if you can!
