Baby T-Rex Farms We are a tiny urban farming operation growing specialty flowers and herbs in Mid-City, New Orleans.

5 reasons to choose locally grown flowers this Mother’s Day: 🥰
1) They celebrate the season! ☔💐☀️
Learning what blooms when in your area is an education in our natural habitat and climate!

2) Support pollinators! 🐝
Flowers are the natural foods of bees, butterflies, and other insects. We firmly believe that flowers can do two things: nourish the ecosystem they grow within and end up as a stunning bouquet for someone special.

3)Buying local supports the local economy.
You're supporting a small farm and keeping your dollars in the local economy. 💰

4) Cut the carbon footprint! ✈️👣
The majority of flowers sold in the United States are imported from overseas. The transport alone is a huge footprint! Additionally, these flowers are typically “conventionally grown.” Conventionally grown flowers means they use chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. These chemicals can cause health problems for farm workers, harm beneficial pollinators, and often pollute the soil and local waterways.

5) Freshness! 🌸
Buying local means you and your loved one get fresher flowers! Plus, they smell incredible!

Shout-out to all the local farmers in New Orleans Flower Collective, working hard to grow beautiful flowers!

We've officially kicked off our "Deeper than Dirt" online blog, thanks to Nat Kearney! Nat wrote the first entry, entitled "Life, P**p, and Compost," detailing our journey building a -- in other words, a compost pile built following very specific guidelines. Nat will be embarking on a Fulbright fellowship in August, and although her next adventure probably won't involve compost (or lots of manure), we couldn't be more excited for her! 🤩

Shout out to all those who supported and resourced our Compost Bioreactor building including Bayou Sarah Farms, Schmelly's Dirt Farm, the Green Project, & WWOOFers!

Why Baby T Rex Farms built a bioreactor composting system, where we sourced organic waste, and how we built the aerated composting system that doesn't need to be turned to support the soil health of our urban flower farm in New Orleans.
