Hey everybody!

We’re putting up a “Scrim FAQ” that will be pinned to all our socials. Every day, there are new people who find out about him, and while the community does a great job of explaining his story, we think this will be helpful to address some of the questions and concerns that new followers may have.

The recovery team is ready to go 24/7! If you see Scrim, please text FiveOhFour.231.7865 with his location, time of sighting and direction traveling.

Thanks! Michelle.

Meet Chili, Habanero, and Poblano

Yesterday, I felt an overwhelming need to put some good back into the world, so I welcomed these three pups into the Zeus' Rescue program.

These sweet dogs were surrendered to the SPCA as strays on 12/26. No one came forward to claim them. They’re absolutely terrified, and I couldn’t let their story end there. I wanted to give them a real chance at finding their forever homes.

At Zeus' Rescues, we’re not an open-intake shelter. Being a no-kill rescue allows us the privilege of giving animals the time and care they need to decompress, de-stress, and let their personalities shine without the pressure of a ticking clock.

Today is only their second day with us, but they’re already starting to relax and adjust to being safe. Now, we’re looking for immediate foster or adoptive homes that can provide the calm, patient environment they need to continue their journey.

If you think you can offer that kind of space and love, please fill out an application at http://www.zeusrescues.org.

Stay safe out there. Michelle

Scrim Update:Scrim made it through the New Year's fireworks!

I want to send a HUGE thank you to the driver/passenger who was quick enough to catch a fleeting glimpse of him on the run. This was our only sighting of him yesterday as he crossed Esplanade down Gayoso towards Gayoso.

We continue to search for his new location so that we can place food, water and the humane traps to hopefully get him to safety before the cold weather comes in a few days.

Thank you to everyone who reports sightings. If you see him or think you might know where he hides (under a house/in a backyard/general area) please text me at FiveOhFour.231.7865.

Thanks! Michelle

Scrim Update:

Our first sighting of Scrim was at 11:20 p.m. on New Year's Eve in Old Metairie, near Country Day.

By 6:30 p.m., he had crossed under I-10 via Metairie Road and was spotted close to Second Line Brewing. He made it as far east as the Ideal Market on Broad, then headed up Esplanade toward the bayou.

The last confirmed sighting was at 8:16 p.m. on S. Salcedo, running FAST away from Canal. Check out the map (https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1gcIl6A6tjTTQNpjFu_fb6F4nMLO3imE&usp=sharing)

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to catch up to him or keep eyes on him. He was clocking over 20 mph, weaving through traffic, and going the wrong way on one-way streets—he narrowly avoided being hit multiple times. The team used electric bikes, Vespas, and cars to try to get close enough to see if he’d taken cover under a house or to divert him from traffic, but he was just too quick.

Yesterday, the team worked tirelessly searching for Scrim and following reported sightings. While on the move, they set up feeding stations, trail cameras, and humane traps baited with high-value food to lure him to safety.

Now we’re anxiously awaiting the next sighting to confirm he made it through the night. With New Year’s Day fireworks ramping up again, we know he’s likely to keep running.

If you’re in the Mid-City area, please consider leaving out some food and water. He’s surely hungry after running over 5 miles during the sightings we tracked yesterday, and he’s likely scared, exhausted, and thirsty.

The team will be out again today, rebaiting traps and continuing the search for Scrim.
Michelle

WOW! What a year.

I always take time on New Year’s Eve to reflect on the difference we’ve made over the past year in the lives of homeless pets.

In 2024, we brought 602 pets into our rescue program!!!!

These rescues came to us from every imaginable situation. Some of the most unforgettable ones include:
- Assisting and leading two massive hoarding cases
- Tackling three dangerous canal rescues (one involving a cat and an alligator!)
- Taking in countless dogs and cats dumped in our front yard
- Heartbreaking owner surrenders and transfers from other shelters and rescues
- Pulling kittens out of storm drains and car engines
- Welcoming litters of puppies brought to us in laundry hampers
- Saving dogs abandoned at NOPD substations
- And yes, jumping off my Mardi Gras float during the Krewe of Tucks parade to rescue a little Chihuahua wandering between floats!

Every single one of these pets received top-notch medical care. After being spayed/neutered, chipped, dewormed, and vaccinated, they were adopted into loving homes. Some needed extra help—enucleations, heartworm treatments, or amputations. Many battled illnesses like parvo or FIP. No matter the challenge, each one left us healthy, happy, and ready for their new lives—or with a plan in place for continued care through our vet.

Right now, we have 156 pets in our program, still waiting for their chance at a fresh start.

So, how does a private rescue pull all this off without any state or federal funding? It’s simple: supporters like YOU. Our funding comes from adoption fees, grants, fundraisers, and private donations. Keeping our doors open and bills paid isn’t always easy, but it’s our passion and we’re making a difference every single day.

If you’re in a position to help us finish 2024 strong, please consider donating at http://www.zeusrescues.org/donate or click the link below.

I can’t wait to look into the eyes of the pets who come through our doors in 2025 and let them know their lives just got a whole lot better.

With gratitude,
Michelle

Scrim Videos:

Thank you to everyone who reported sightings of Scrim in Harahan last night and for not giving up hope on his successful recovery. I’d to share the last two videos we received from the public of him.

The first video 100% confirmed that Scrim was in Harahan. (We’ve received photos/videos of dogs resembling Scrim, from Kenner to the LGD, but none of them were him)

The second video is from Christmas Eve, which I had initially hesitated to share. After that sighting, we had no updates, leaving us uncertain if he successfully crossed the train tracks. I didn’t want to share the video if it marked a tragic ending for him. Tammy thoroughly walked the tracks from Old Metairie to Uptown looking for him, but it now seems that Scrim followed the tracks toward Harahan instead of Uptown.

We’ll be hanging signs in the areas where he was seen last night and have humane traps ready to set up once we better pinpoint his location. Scrim is terrified of fireworks, and when they start going off, he’s likely to run, making it hard to predict which direction he might travel. Please keep an eye out and report any sightings by texting FiveOhFour.231.7865 with any sightings. He could stay in Harahan, head to Kenner or back to Mid City or Uptown. There is no way to predict where he will run when the fireworks start, and he is in flight mode. We can only hope his street smarts keep him safe.

I’ve received numerous texts, calls, and DMs about the various Scrim pages circulating on social media. To avoid confusion, I’ll start updating the original Scrim pages I created when he was safely recovered in October. These pages will now share the same updates I post on Zeus’ Place and Zeus’ Rescues accounts.

The other pages are managed by individuals unknown to me and feature their own ideas, memes, links, and updates, etc. While I’m not in any way asking you to not follow them, I want to clarify that only the pages under my business accounts contain the most accurate, up-to-date information and are solely focused on Scrim. The Zeus’ Rescues Scrim account is Scrim.

Thank you again for your support and vigilance. Let’s bring Scrim home safely. Michelle

SCRIM UPDATE:

Whew. It's been a long 4 days, but tonight we got a sighting with a picture to confirm Scrim is alive, well and running around Harahan! Yes. Harahan. He was seen in the Home Depot parking log, Harahan playground and around Citrus Creek apartments.

I cannot explain the huge relief this picture was to the team to hear that he is still alive. They went out but was unable to locate him.

If you live in that area, please consider putting out a small amount of food and water for him.

Meet Nimo. This 7 month old tuxedo baby came to us as a wee kitten with his 3 siblings back in May. They have beaten the odds to survive and are ready for forever homes. Nimo was lucky enough to land in a foster home for a little while. They sent us these pics and update:

If you are looking for your next best friend, look no further. Nimo is looking for his forever home and loves just about everyone! He sometimes thinks he's a racehorse sprinting as far as he can. He loves to play, just with you or with any other critter in the house. He is so kind and loving, easy going and polite. He would never say no to some pets, a lap and an afternoon snooze. I love purring and saying I love you with my eyes.'

"We were just blown away with him, he is so easy going with other cats, new environments and has been the easiest foster we've had. He needed very little time to adjust and out cats took to him really fast. It wouldn't surprise us if he'd get along well with dogs too.

We had a Christmas party with a large group at our house when he was with us and he has no issues with people or the noise. We were prepared to keep him in the quiet part of the house but he wouldn't hear of it."

If you are interested in Nimo or any of the other 78 curious felines in our program right now, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org.

We have not had a Scrim sighting since the video someone sent me of him trying to cross under a moving train in Old Metairie. We are not sure what area of town his is in right now. Please keep your eyes open. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Inky. Inky is a year old labby mix. Inky came to us from another shelter in the hopes of finding a home. She is currently being treated for Demodex (not to contagious to any person or pet) and should make a full recovery soon! She is super sweet and eager to please. Weighing in at under 30 pounds, she will fit perfectly in almost any home!

We are still at capacity at our rescue building. If you are hanging around the house for the rest of the holiday, please consider fostering one of our rescues! You can see who is available and fill out at application at www.zeusrescues.org.

Scrim remains in Old Metairie in the area generally bordered by the canal, Northline, and the railroad tracks. He has popped up on many Ring doorbells. I also got a terrifying video last night of him trying to cross the tracks under a moving train.

I got another sighting 10 minutes after the video, so I am hoping he is OK, but it hard to tell if the sighting was before or after the train. I haven't heard anything since then. If you live in that area, please consider putting out some food and water for him.

We are working on moving our humane traps to that area in the hopes of safely capturing him before the fireworks ramp up for the New Year's Eve/Day celebrations. Over the last 8 months, he has not once even come close to going in one of these traps, not matter what they are baited with and where they are placed. He will sniff around them, but not step in them! We still deploy them in the hopes that this will change one day and he will go in!

Thank you for your support of Scrim and all of the other rescues out there. Michelle

Tammy and I are out rescuing these 2 babies before the canal fills with rain water. Stay tuned:)

UPDATE: Just got another video from 4:23 am. He was in the area of Grenadine and Carrollton in Old Metairie. With this Thunder, I am sure he will be running far and fast. Please keep your eyes open!!! Thanks. Michelle

Merry Christmas!

After an exhausting 40 hours, Scrim was spotted in the Treme at 8:03 PM by a former ZR employee, sprinting down Esplanade!

When the fireworks began, he took off running through Mid-City at full speed, clearly terrified of the noise. He was reported at multiple locations in under 45 minutes: Iberville/N. Anthony, then S. Olympia/Palmyra, followed by N. Olympia/Bienville, and finally Banks and St. Patrick.

The next sighting was at 12:45 AM near S. St. Patrick and Palmyra, still running at full speed to escape the sound of fireworks.

At 2:37 this morning, I received a video showing Scrim in Old Metairie. He’s alive and looks okay, which is such a relief! He’s now in a new area, but with today’s fireworks, I expect he’ll keep moving.

If he traveled in a straight line from his first sighting to the last (and we know he doesn’t), that would be a 3.3-mile journey. He must be tired and hungry. If you’re in Old Metairie, please consider putting out some food and water for him.

Thank you so much to everyone keeping an eye out and sharing sightings. We have feeding stations and humane traps set up in his most frequented areas, though he’s been avoiding them so far. We’re doing everything we can to bring him to safety. Michelle

Meet Mikey! We got this 8 - 10 year old chi yesterday and we are all in love with him! Mikey has some bite wounds around his neck that are healing nicely. He can be a little nervous when you first meet him, but warms up quickly! With all he has been through, I can't blame him for being hesitant at first. I think time in a home will do him a world of good!

The rescue building is open from 10 - 4 today. If you have an approved app and want to foster Mikey, or any of our other dogs or cats in the building for the holiday break, stop by and pick one up! All supplies for your foster time will be provided. If you don't have an app on file, you can complete one at www.zeusrescues.org.

Scrim was very active yesterday, roaming MidCity, looking for food and warmth. Thanks to everyone that sent in dash cam footage and sightings. Michelle

Meet Pocket and a Scrim update!

Meet Pocket! This 3 month old large breed puppy came into our program on Friday as an owner surrender. He had a large abscess on his cheek causing him pain. Luckily Dr. Joe was able to clean and treat the wound and it already looks better!

Since he is not fully vetted, he can't go into our play yards yet. We are looking to put him in an immediate foster. If you would like to adopt or foster this little teddy bear, please fill out the application at www.zeusrescues.org.

SCRIM UPDATE:He was up and about looking for food this morning. I will be going over all the sightings from the last couple of days and updating the map soon.

I wanted to address something that is troubling. Someone has created a fake Scrim profile that mirrors the one I created to give updates on Scrim when he was captured.

They are sending out friend requests and posting content that does not reflect my views or anything related to Scrim or Zeus' Rescues. To be clear, this is not my account. The views expressed there have nothing to do with me or Zeus' Rescues.

I am in no way saying that you shouldn't follow it. I just want to be very clear that I do not endorse anything on that page.
Thanks
Michelle

Meet Tabby Benoit. Tabby started her day riding over to New Orleans in a car engine. Luckily the driver heard her mews when they stopped their car in Nola and someone was able to pull her out and get her to our rescue building!

After what I can only imagine was a harrowing journey, Tabby appears to be unharmed. She is currently resting comfortably on a fluffy bed with tons of food/water and no moving engine parts around her.

This is the time of year when we get tons of kittens and cats brought to us after crawling into an engine to look for warmth on cool nights. A good practice during the winter months is to blow your horn before you start your engine to get any cats/kittens out of there before turning over your engine. That simple thing could save a life!

If you are interested in Tabby Benoit, or any of the pets in our program, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues. org.

Scrim is still moving around MidCity. Thanks to everyone who puts out a little food and water for him and reports sightings. Michelle

Meet Dessi. This 6 year old medium haired beauty came to us back in January as an owner surrender. It took some time to find a foster her for her, but we finally did and she is now thriving in their home! They recently sent us these pictures and write up:

"Dessi is a curious, friendly, and goofy girl whose personality strikes the perfect balance of energy and relaxation. She enjoys human company, whether it’s “supervising” house projects or cuddling up on the couch. Intrigued by busy environments, she’ll even greet new people at the door!

Her favorite toy by far is a wire wand, and she’ll chase it in circles for days. She's incredibly fast – sometimes, she’ll get a random burst of energy and sprint down the stairs, all while letting out the cutest little chirps!

Dessi can often be found taking long naps on the couch or in the windowsill, especially to soak in some sunshine. She also loves to jump onto your lap if you’re working on the computer.

She’s an “easy” cat in that she’s smart, adaptable, independent, and quick to pick up on routines. While she’s become more comfortable over time with our male cats, we feel she would be happiest in a single-cat household or with very welcoming cat siblings who will respect her space."

If you are interested in Dessi, or any of the other pets in our program, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle
