It's back to school time for the pups!

Have a pup that needs some basic manners training or new to owning a puppy! We have 2 training classes started at the end of January that might be right for you!

Basic Manners class starts on January 26th and runs for 6 weeks. It will give you skills to teach your dog foundational behaviors. This class is perfect for dogs of all ages, whether they are 10 months or 10 years old! We’ll teach you to communicate with your dog using positive reinforcement training methods. We’ll discuss the importance of body language as it pertains to training. You’ll leave class knowing how to incorporate training into your daily routine. We’ll cover behaviors such as: Sit, down, place, recall, and impulse control. Dogs participating in basic manner class must be non-reactive/be able to coexist with other dogs.

Puppy Preschool starts on January 25th and runs for 5 weeks. The benefits of group classes for young puppies cannot be overstated! You’ll learn how to prevent unwanted behaviors from occurring while also learning how to teach desired behaviors. We’ll discuss impulse control, proper play, and true socialization. Our goal is to help your puppy adapt to your lifestyle. Puppies must be 5 months or younger at the start of their first class and have received their first 2 rounds of DHPP vaccinations administered by a licensed veterinarian.

The registration fee for each class is $150.00. If you're interested, check out the links in our bio for registration details.

My name is Lorde and I am indeed royal! It's and I couldn't resist introducing myself to the masses.

I am a delight to be around - all the LASPCA subjects love me - and I know that you will too. I like pets and cuddles and have even been known to chase the occasional toy when the mood strikes me. I've been told my eyes are my best feature and I may or may not use them to get my way.

If you're interested in meeting me, have your people call my people at the Mardi Gras campus and we can see if we're a good match!

Hi! I am Gatsby! Someone told me it was so I wanted to get in on the fun! My owner joined the Navy (and I am so proud of her!) but that means I am now looking for my second chance at a forever home.

I love to play but I also love a good cuddle. I am an independent boy so if you're a working parent, that's ok too. I can keep myself entertained while you're at the office or on a Teams meeting. I love to curl up in my favorite perch but I am also a little nosey - I'll keep an eye on the neighbors for you while you're gone!

If you're looking for your new best friend, come and see me at Petsmart on Claiborne Ave. today!

It's Sunday and you know that that means - time for !

Today is really special - we have Oogie Boogie - a beautiful boy who had a very rough start but never lost his spark. Brought in as a stray as a puppy, covered in fleas and underweight, Oogie was still an incredibly loving pup who just wanted to cuddle and play.

His first adoption didn't work out - the people who were supposed to protect him and keep him safe abandoned him when he needed them most. Oogie didn't let that get him down though - he was more determined than ever to find his furever home and he finally did!

After a few short days with us, Oogie met his new family and his life couldn't be better! He spends his time playing fetch, lounging, and - of course - getting all the cuddles he can!

If you want to help a pet like Oogie Boogie find their second chance at happiness, come and visit our adoption centers. We look forward to seeing you there soon!

Meet Ruby, another one of our long-term shelter dogs. Ruby has been in our care since May 2024, but that hasn't dulled her spirit or made her give up on the search for her furever home. She's a spirited and playful dog who's ready to be your partner in all things fun! With her wagging tail and infectious energy, Ruby is always up for an adventure and eager to explore the world with her forever family.

Ruby loves outdoor activities and thrives on playtime in the great outdoors. Whether it's a game of fetch, a hike through the woods, or a swim in the lake, Ruby is in her element and ready to make every outing a memorable experience. Her enthusiasm for life is boundless, and she's always excited to try new activities and discover new places.

Despite her spirited nature, Ruby is also a sweetheart with a gentle demeanor. She adores people of all ages and loves to make new friends wherever she goes. Ruby's friendly and outgoing personality makes her a joy to be around, whether she's socializing with other dogs at the park or cuddling up for some quiet time with her loved ones.

Ruby is a quick learner and loves to show off her skills. She enjoys training sessions and excels at learning new tricks and commands. Her intelligence and eagerness to please make her a wonderful companion who's always eager to learn and grow alongside her family.

If you're looking for a playful and loving dog who's as adventurous as she is affectionate, adopt Ruby and let her playful spirit and loving heart bring joy and excitement into your home!

Ruby is available for adoption at the Plaquemines Campus at 455 F. Edward Hebert Blvd in Belle Chasse, LA.

Hello there, I'm Schooner! I'm a sweet, friendly guy with a goofy side that's sure to make you smile. I'm gentle with everyone I meet and I love to show off my smarts. I'm also a cuddle bug who would love nothing more than to snuggle up with you at the end of the day. I promise to be the most loyal, loving companion you could ever hope for. If you're looking for a friend who will always be there for you, who will make you laugh, and who will love you unconditionally, then I'm your guy.

It's and I am currently being fostered by a great family but I am still looking for my second chance with a family to call my own. If you think that might be you, have your people call my people and we can get together for a pup cup or a game of fetch and see if we're a good match!

At the LASPCA, we depend on the support of our community to fulfill our mission. Our corporate partners are no exception. Their generous donations help us acquire the tools and resources required to treat almost 5000 animals annually and help them find their second chance at love and happiness.

Stuart Services has partnered with the LASPCA for their Heroes for Pets program where a portion of the proceeds will directly benefit our organization, helping us to service the companion animals of our community and to save more animals in need. If you're interested, you can visit their website or call Stuart Services at 888-699-4910 for more information.

If your business is interested in partnering with the LASPCA, please give us a call at 504-368-5191 today!

So... what had happened was...
I MAY have gotten a little lost and I MAY have tried to sneak into someone's house through their doggy door, but I swear I am a good boy!

My name is Rocky and I am the LASPCA ! How did a dog that got caught breaking into a strangers' house get to be Pet of the Week? Well, I've been on my best behavior since I got here and I've been loving spending time with all the humans and other pups. I am actually a pretty chill guy, so if you're down to watch a movie and cuddle on the couch, I am the pup for you.

I may not be a young pup anymore, but I still have plenty of play left in me - I just know a thing or two about a thing or two. I am more of a lover than a fighter and I am looking for my person to cuddle with on these cold winder nights.

Come and visit me at the Plaquemines Parish campus today. I'd love to meet you! And I promise that if you take me home my criminal days are behind me!

With feels-like temps expected to drop into the 20's this week, the City of New Orleans has activated the Freeze Plan. What does the Freeze Plan mean for our pets?

Any time the City of New Orleans activates the Freeze Plan, all pets must be brought inside for the duration of the activation. This means when outdoor temperatures reach freezing levels, all cats (except feral and community cats), dogs, and companion animals must be moved indoors or to an area that provides shelter from the weather. This means that animals cannot be left outside unsupervised for extended periods of time.

New Orleans Humane Law & Rescue is now in emergency operations mode. This means that all animals that are left outside are treated as emergencies. To report an animal emergency, please dial 911. Any non-emergency calls will be answered as soon as the Freeze Plan is lifted.

Remember the 4 P's - Pipes, Pets, People, & Plants. Stay safe and warm and remember to keep your furry friends safe and warm as well!
