Meet Korra, our

She is a three-year-old white fluffy Great Pyrenees looking for her fur-ever home! She is a lovable and affectionate girl with a heart brimming with love, who was surrendered to us by her previous owner.

Korra gets along wonderfully with children and other pets, having had a kitty brother named Mushu, who has since been adopted from our shelter. Korra is eager to find her forever home and can't wait to share her sweetness with anyone in search of a giant teddy bear.

To meet her visit our Orleans Campus at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd or call us (504) 368-5191. She can’t wait to meet her future paw-rents.

As we gear up for the festivities, we can’t forget about our furry family members! Here are some simple tips to keep our pets safe and stress-free this Independence Day:

✅ Make sure all pets, even indoor cats, are wearing up-to-date ID tags.
❌ Never bring your dog to fireworks displays — they can be scary and overwhelming.
🏠 If your pet is fearful, stay indoors with them and create a calm space.
🐾 Give your dog a good walk or play session before the fireworks begin — a tired dog is often less anxious.
💛 Comfort your pet if they’re scared. Punishment can make fear worse.
🐶 If you must be outside with your pet, use a secure leash or harness at all times.
🔒 Double-check that outdoor areas are safe: close any gaps in fences and lock all gates.

Wishing you and your pets a safe a happy 4th of July!

Hershey is the hottest dog out this ! This 9-month-old chocolate lab is ready to chill out and be your sweet summer treat!

Today, we are hitting a scorching 92°, and as the well-known pop group Bananarama puts it, "The hot summer streets and the pavements are burning." So keep your pets hydrated by providing them with a container of fresh water and a collapsible bowl for those necessary water breaks during any outdoor activities.

Want to meet Hershey? Come visit him at our Adoption Center anytime from noon to 5 pm at 1700 Mardi Blvd.

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming an incredible group of volunteers from Entergy () for a special day of service at the shelter. They spent their time connecting with our furry residents, offering them much-needed socialization, attention, and love.

In addition to quality time, the team also crafted enrichment items like frozen KONGs, giving our animals extra moments of joy throughout the day.
It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful even a single day of compassion can be for both pets and people.

If you or your organization would like to create a meaningful experience and make a real difference in the lives of animals we care for, contact us at [email protected] to schedule your team's own paw-some day of service.

Y'all know what time it is, , and we'd like you to meet Gadget.

At the shelter, he's known as GoGo Gadget Copter, but his friends call him Inspector Gadget! He's curious, energetic, and easily startled, so approach him gently. While he isn't a cuddler now, he'll eventually seek out a lap after a long day of kitten shenanigans. You can meet Gadget at our Orleans Campus at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd, he can't wait to go home with you forever.

Ever wondered what a Doggy Day Out looks like? Well, let's ask Dotty!

"Right now, I’m livin' the good life in my foster home after four months at the shelter. New Orleans is awesome, and my days are filled with car rides, park adventures, and some well-deserved couch time with belly rubs! Just a few of the cool things you can do with me forever, or another one of my friends at the shelter." - Dotty

Not ready to foster like Dotty's wonderful mom? No problem! Enjoy a day with one of our cute pups on a Doggy Day Out. Visit our website to register or call us to adopt Dotty, she is looking for her forever home.
