This post pains me. It's been a long time coming unfortunately. Our boy Fezzy was returned about a week and a half after being adopted. He has been back with us for over a month. He is finally starting to feel less depressed. His return has taken a toll on him and our hearts. He definitely didn't return as the same happy boy that left here. The good news is here he is showered with love!

The 333 Rule of adoption is real folks. Shelter dogs require patience. Shelter dogs require understanding. Shelter dogs require time. They deserve all these things too.

Fezzy had been at the shelter for 4 years and wasn't given the benefit of patience, understanding and certainly time. When you adopt from a shelter or rescue, please listen to the staff. They know and understand these pets. We are 100% up front about our pets, that is the only chance at true success in finding their forever home.

Don't rush your new pet. Give them the benefit of time to adjust. These pets have been through so much, adjustment doesn't happen overnight.

If you aren't ready for the lifetime commitment, that's ok. There are so many ways you can help besides adopting. Donate money, donate your time, donate supplies.

Fezzy's joy has been robbed, he isn't the same boy that left the shelter over a month ago. We will get him past this, it's what we do.

Every pet that walks through our doors is promised love, understanding and hope!

We can use our amazing communities support. We have been hit with some big vet bills lately and Fezzy will be no different. He is getting his dental cleaning next week and needs some teeth pulled. We greatly appreciate everyone's support. ❤️🐾

We're counting on your support community! When life gives us rain, we're resilient! A fallen tree damaged fences in our pup's play area, but thankfully no one was hurt. Our brave boy Vader had a dermatologist appointment, and we're tackling his new antibiotic and limited ingredient diet with hope. We invested in Speed Queen washers and dryers, and though they're not as sturdy as before, we're persevering through repairs. Unfortunately our boy Bruno was returned. He is about 8 months old and pure puppy. He will need to be worked with. He has been in the shelter most of his puppy life. He has a lot of energy and would do great on hikes, and long walks. Bruno is confused why he is back. He needs time. He deserves the benefit of time and training. This place is all he knows. Ready to give Bruno his happily ever after, show him patience and give him the tools to be the most amazing Bruno he wants to be? He deserves it! ❤️🐾

We weren’t sure what was under that hair…. Thanks to Millie and the wonderful team at Best Care Animal Hospital we found this adorable gentleman underneath ❤️. Chewbacca is just starting his retirement journey to live his best life!!! This is what saving lives is all about. Teamwork does make the dream work. Chewbacca’s life is now forever changed!!! After numerous visits to another dermatology clinic with very little progress, we finally found success at Animal Dermatology Clinic Bradenton. Our cat, Vader, had been suffering from skin issues, but the previous treatments were ineffective. We appreciate the genuine care and concern shown by the team at Animal Dermatology Clinic Bradenton, which has led to significant improvement in Vader's condition. He is now more active, social, and back to his usual self purrched in his window!! Bradenton is a hike from NPR, but the health and well-being of our pets is worth it!! ❤️🐾

Meet the cutest boy ever!! Flynn is 2.5 years old. He is blind completely in his right eye and has about 10% sight available in his left eye. You would never know it. This guy needs someone very special to love him and not give up on him again! He will be your faithful, loving, playful companion. Don’t miss out on Flynn. 1554 days. Thats how many nights Fezzy spent at SPCA Suncoast. He was loved for 1554 days. He was spoiled for 1554 days. Many car rides to McDonalds for French fries. Lots of time spent in his kitchen watching everyone work. So many times watching his fellow furry friends go to their forever homes while he waits patiently for someone to pick him. Well….. the time has come!!!! Our boy got picked!!!!! 1554 days later Fez is heading to his very own forever home with two amazing people who promise to love, honor, cherish and obey him (it’s in the agreement 😊). This is absolutely bittersweet. This pup deserves nothing but the best. SPCA Suncoast won’t be the same without seeing this face every day, but it is certainly a better place because he was with us. Fezzy, go live your dream finally. Be the good boy you are. Fill their hearts with joy every day like you did us. We love you buddy. They promised to bring you back once a week 😉).

We are seeking assistance for two dogs recently surrendered to us, diagnosed with bladder stones and in need of surgical intervention. Sunny, a terrier mix, underwent surgery in February but the veterinarian left a stone in his bladder, requiring a second surgery. However, the original veterinarian is unwilling to help us with the cost of the repeat surgery to remove all bladder stones. Chloe, a senior dog, was also surrendered to us and had been living with bladder stones for years due to her previous owner's negligence to provide special food that could have prevented the condition. She has since undergone surgery to remove three large bladder rocks and is now recovering.
Both of these cuties require Royal Canin Urinary S/O which isn’t inexpensive for the shelter, but we do what they babies in our care need.
