Volusia County is contemplating passing horseback riding on the beach in Ormond. A lot of the comments complain about potential horse manure problems.
Today, we went to Flagler Beach where horseback riding is allowed. We stopped and got our required permit, parked in the designated trailer parking area, and brought a pitchfork to clean up after ourselves.
While we were there we saw about six other horses. We rode for almost two hours. Zero p**p left behind from our group or the other group.
Some thoughts: people always make “problems” appear bigger than they actually are.
If you plan on taking advantage of horseback riding on the beach as a horse owner, don’t be a lazy sack of sh*t and clean up after yourself! You’ll ruin it for the rest of us otherwise. It’s really NOT difficult.
If you’re someone who has a problem with horses on the beach, I have a few questions for you: are you actually from this state? Do you actually have firsthand knowledge of horses? Are you able to just simply mind your own business or close your eyes if you’re bothered by horses walking past you on a beach? If horses bother you so much on the beach, why don’t you just drive a little further north or little further south where they are not allowed?
And a finishing note- I don’t wanna hear concerns of erosion. You people keep building these mansions, hotels, restaurants on the beach and you don’t worry about erosion then! Animals walking on the beach is not a legitimate environmental concern.

Hopefully the ordinance passes! 🤞🏼
