You may be tempted to give your pets some of your Thanksgiving feast, but many treats we love can make our pets ill. Keep your pet safe with these five tips:

Don’t feed your pet turkey. It’s high in fat, so even small pieces can cause pancreatitis, especially in smaller pets. Turkey bones can also splinter and cause gastrointestinal blockages, which often require surgery to fix.
Keep wine glasses higher than snout and tail level! Alcohol can cause pets’ blood sugar and pressure to drop dangerously. Plus, a hyper tail could break a glass and cause lacerations.
Baking chocolate is even more toxic than regular chocolate as it contains higher amounts of caffeine and theobromine. But no matter what sweet treats you’re baking, keep nosy snouts out of the kitchen.
Hide the bread dough. The stomach provides a warm environment for yeast to produce ethanol, so when bread dough is swallowed, it continues to expand, causing ethanol toxicosis.
Whether you are bringing your pets with you, boarding them or having a friend watch them, check their chips before you leave for vacation. The holidays are generally associated with more activity, and a stressed pet could run off. Microchips help your pets get home safe if they do get lost.

Gobble Up These Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips

-Careful with turkey & trimmings! Bits of lean meat are fine, but fatty skin, gravy, and drippings can cause pancreatitis.
-Bones are a choking hazard, as is the twine you used to secure your bird.
-Stuffing have onion, garlic, nutmeg, raisins, nuts, or mushrooms? It’s a no-no for fido—and felines, too.
-Make sure centerpieces & potpourri with ribbons, flowers and sticks are out of paw’s reach.
Beer, wine & other alcohol is dangerous for pets—keep glasses and cans above snout level.
-Consider putting your pet in another room with toys and bedding while guests are in the house or at least giving them a “safe place” where they can decompress.

Although these treats are delicious for us, your pets should not indulge!

1. Both chocolate and caffeine contain methylxanthines, which can cause panting, excessive thirst, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and even death. Darker chocolates, particularly baking chocolate, are the most dangerous, as they contain more methylxanthines.

2.We don’t yet know which substance in grapes and raisins poisons dogs, but they both can cause serious kidney failure that is often fatal when it’s not treated immediately.

3.Both onions and garlic can cause gastrointestinal upsets, drooling, weakness, collapse, diarrhea and vomiting, and garlic is about five times more likely to cause these issues than onions.

4.Xylitol is a natural sweetener used in things like chewing gum, peanut butter, toothpaste, and some diet foods. Dogs enjoy its sweet taste, but it can cause vomiting, loss of coordination and fatal liver failure.

5.Macadamia nuts are a serious threat to our pups. They can affect nerve function and can cause joint stiffness, severe lethargy, and tremors
