INTERN OF THE WEEK •• MEET THE TEAM

Sarah Rismon, an Equine Studies graduate 💙 has joined the team as a team lead for programming in partnership with Healing Horse Ranch! Sarah loves all things Equine Assisted Service, however, she has a deep love for Adaptive riding! Sarah does a lot of work behind the scenes assisting with funding and making sure the equine department is meeting all guidelines 💙 Sarah is working on certification through PATH INTL and Natural Lifemanship! Thank you Sarah!

Ground driving is a great way to build trust and communication. Bucky here had a lot of trauma triggers around his hind end. This work with him is lots of fun and we are growing a trusting relationship. Notice his licking and chewing (releasing/relaxing) at the end.

Time flies when your having fun! Here's a little recap on fun had at Healing Horse Ranch over the past couple weeks!
Ronnie and Dandy spent some time together exploring intention and leadership and communication and....all the things, while Ronnie lead Dandy through an obstacle course. Learning about each others personal space comfort and what distance down the lead rope helped Dandy through the course the most. Ronnie felt the middle of the rope was the most comfortable. 😊 Oh and Ronnie suprised Dandy with a little Mini Dandy!!! He loved it. 😁

Today Dandy had a doctor appointment! So today was Equine Health day! Teeth floating, injections, scopes,...it was a busy day. Ronnie gave Dandy some sweet reassuance that everything will be ok. 😊

Equine Assisted Learning Activities

We had a great first day and are excited for the rest of the week! NHSC Equine Studies is proud to be apart of this program, it is supported by Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College Equine Studies program through USDA Tribal College Research Grant Funding.

Our student Cindy Keplin has done an amazing job developing this program 💙 Another student shout out to Cedar Keplin for her amazing horse handling and teaching skills!

Accessibility can be a barrier for people and horse riding but Ted and Linda have been helping to break down that barrier for 11 years! When a tornado took out the facility that manufactired these amazing ramps, Ted made the decision to take on the project himself so the support to the horse riding community could continue. This morning, NHSC became the proud owner of THE LAST RAMP Ted built!
This labor of love wont be the comlete end! Ted was able to pass on the plans to another local Kansas tradesman so the support will continue.
Jessica White Plume and The Twin Buttes Horse Culture Program also has one of these ramps which is a game changer for the participants there.
NHSC thanks Ted and Linda for their support in making horse riding accessible, Healing Horse Ranch for providing the amazing facility and a partnership that is and will do amazing things in the community.

Wednesdays at the arena never fail to deliver an enjoyable experience! This week, Ronnie played a vital role in helping Dandy cross the bridge, which became the highlight of the session for Ronnie. To top it off, Dandy confidently struck a pose for a self-portrait!
