With heat waves sweeping across the country, blue-green algae is appearing in new areas and posing an increased risk to pets.

Found in lakes, ponds or any source of standing water, it’s extremely toxic and consuming it can be fatal. The best way to prevent accidental poisoning is to keep a close eye on pets when they’re around water.

If you think your pet has been exposed, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital and contact the ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day.
Mike, one of our supervisors and a volunteer firefighter, with his dog Ollie, would like to offer some safety tips.
* Put a pet indicator notification on a window or door, within plain sight. This way the firefighters will know how many pets
there are.
* Make sure your pet has ID, whether a tag or microchip.
* Leave an escape route, leave the door or window open.

To help prevent your pet from causing a fire -
* Keep candles out of reach of wagging tails and curious paws.
* Watch pets around wires, especially pups and kittens

One and a half weeks ago I brought my dog into Flannery hospital because my dog could not walk at all, thanks to this hospital and the tech Courtney she is now walking again, what a wonderful hospital it is and the staff is so pleasant, Courtney is a miracle worker, giving her laser treatments and getting her to walk, I love her and so does daisy. God bless Courtney and flannery.
