We've discovered a new type of land seal...the Sharpei aka "Boulder." Sharpeis like Boulder are known for their extra flappy coats and were initially bred as property guards in China. Boulder enjoys all sorts of land seal activities, such as sitting in the sun and playing with his siblings!

We gave this stellar group of adoptable dogs a spoil day 💗

This year we celebrated the start of Dental Health Month with adoptable pups from PupStarz Rescue. After a day of zoomies, friends, and snacks each of the pups got to try our durable chews and pick out a few toys. Thank you to all the fine folks at Pupstarz for allowing us to give these pups a treat day! Here is some more info on the pups:

Stevie is a 5 month old, blind dachshund
Payton is a 3 year old Chihuahua mix
Paisley is a 4 year old terrier mix
Craig is a 3 year old Pittie mix
Bell is a 4yr old Chihuahua
Rae & Raelynn are 11 week old litter mates and hound mixes!
Jackpot is a 5 month old hound mix

Snow nose or winter nose is a form of hypopigmentation that can occur in dogs who have brown or black snoots for the rest of the year. It's generally harmless and doesn't change the moisture or texture on your dog's snoot.

Here are the warning signs that it could be something other than a winter snoot:

🐽 excessive rubbing of nose
🐽 complete changes in pigmentation
🐽 changes in texture or moisture
🐽 crusting
🐽 bleeding or itching

Bear in the Big Blue House is a hit with dogs! Pup parents are noticing that when they put on this Disney kid's TV show, their dogs get invested in it. Parents of reactive pups say it helps calm their pups, and it helps soothe dogs with anxiety. What is it about this Bear in the Big Blue house?

Use this paw wax recipe to protect your dog's toe beans & soothe cracked skin!

If your pup gets snow or heavy storms in the winter ➡️ protect those toe beans! A raincoat, booties, or paw balm is a precautionary measure. During the storm, hazards may have blown into your dog's walking path. Rock salt, antifreeze, or ice melt can burn your pup's toe pads in snowy weather. Keep an eye out for these hazards during your winter walks, and apply balm to dried-out or cracked skin!

But even when it's cold outside, some pups can still get sunburns that can lead to painful, dry, cracked skin so don't forget to make sure your dog's skin is protected from the sun with dog-safe sunscreen or clothes 😎

Coffee dates are better with a friend 💙

Taking your dog to their local dog-friendly coffee shop can be great for their socialization. An added bonus: they might get a tasty treat or pup cup out of it! Some dogs are more sensitive to lactose than others, so it's a good idea to start small and look out for signs of indigestion, such as:

☕ Nausea and vomiting
☕ Diarrhea
☕ Itching

In 2006, people decided to train Maremma dogs to protect penguins from the fox predation that was drastically lowering their population on Middle Island, Australia. Ever since, the pack returns every summer to keep the birds safe from any attacks. Recently the longest serving dogs, Eudy and Tula (who served 10 and 8 years respectively) crossed the rainbow bridge but there are still five fluffy heroes keeping the penguins safe!

Macy is perfecting the art of ~camouflage~

Double-coated dogs like Macy are made for the snow! Their thick undercoat provides plenty of insulation, keeping them warm and fuzzy in the chilliest winter weather. Bernese Mountain dogs were originally bred to pull dairy carts through the Swiss alps in the cold, snowy winter. It is perfectly safe for double-coated pups to spend hours lounging outside as any dog would on a sunny day, as long as you keep checking in on them. Make sure you rug up your pups with thinner coats before taking them out!
