When we were looking to place Meli and Jax in their forever home, we thought they should stay together since they had always been together. It looks like that was a great decision. This was from this morning in their forever home. They're very loved and doing so well thanks to the Throwers family.

Shortly after 4 year old Joy arrived into our care she was experiencing diarrhea which certainly isn’t unusual for our newly rescued puppy mill dogs who unfortunately require plenty of medications to treat their many issues. They also experience big food changes, anesthesia, stress, etc. all which can contribute to diarrhea. But despite all efforts to restore her gut health and firm up her stools, her diarrhea persisted. She responded very well to Metronidozle treatment but the diarrhea returned every time she’d come off it. We started diving into further diagnostics and testing but all results were normal and unremarkable and she never experienced any other symptoms but the loose stools. Although she responded well to Metronidozale, it is not safe for long term use so we decided to give Tylosin a try - a far safer long term management medication in hopes that she would respond as well 🤞🏻

Good news - she’s been on the Tylosin all week and has had firm stools 💩 We have even reduced her dosage in half and she is still responding well. We are currently working to identify her lowest effective dose. She will need to remain on the Tylosin which thankfully is both a safe and affordable management for her 💜

You may remember that Joy had arrived back in December with the terrible staph skin infection which had caused a great deal of hair loss - as you can see here with this recent photo, her fur has grown back beautifully and she’s looking better and healthier than ever 💕
