🐾 Rescue Story: Kitties of the Scaffolding! 🐾
Here’s a rescue story with a twist! A teacher at an elementary school in Williamsburg, Brooklyn noticed a skinny mama cat & her kittens camped out on the *second-floor scaffolding* of the school during construction work. 😳
Her class had been watching the little family play high above the playground, so she reached out to to see if we could help them before the dangers of construction proved harmful & cold temps set in.
We faced some challenges right off the bat—only the construction crew can access that area & they don’t start working until after school hours. Luckily, the site engineer turned out to be a kind cat lover, too! 😻
We couldn’t safely (or legally) scale the construction site, so he set up the traps according to our instructions while we kept watch from inside an empty classroom with the teacher. An OSHA approved cat rescue, if you will. ✔️
While the teacher previously tried to feed the skinny mama cat, she kept avoiding the food, so we broke out the big guns & trapped them with sardines. For the love of sardines & all that is good, we’ve successfully brought Mama cat & her 2 tiny kittens to safety. Mama cat, though feral & very wary, is safe & scheduled for her spay appointment tomorrow while her kittens stay in safe hands. 🐈⬛
And good news: the teacher is now interested in fostering! 🍎 With the construction crew & teacher keeping watch, we’re hopeful there aren’t any more kittens still up there, but we’ve got the traps locked & loaded, just in case. 🎣
What seemed impossible at first has turned into a true community rescue effort! As you know, rescue work always takes a village, or in our case, a NYC neighborhood. ❤️
