We had a great outing for Holloween with our buddy Mighty!! It wasn’t trick or treating but we felt that sniff and treating away from all the goblins was more the way to go with a dog. Just had an awesome time at the park with Franklin and his peeps Sam and Glynis. I can’t get over how far they have come in his training :)!! Franklin is a scent genius and just loves whatever games we can come up with. When you go to the park make it interactive! I highly recommend Christina Sondermann’s “Playtime for your dog” book if you need some inspiration. Have fun with your dog!!

Like many dog trainers a big part of my origin story was my dogs. They passed away years back. Two pit bulls Chuck and Brindy. They were a couple of knuckle heads. The best dogs ever. Chuck was a 65lb muscular beast who was such sensitive gentle soul. Brindy was a little 35lb pitty that loved attention and spread joy to those she met. My brother and I were roommates when we got Chuck, Brindy came along a couple years later. We basically had joint custody of both dogs throughout their lives. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about these two. I wish I had started learning about positive dog training early on with them. I would have understood them and I could have supported them through their challenges from the get go. My training journey didn’t begin till years into having them. I’m grateful that I was able to apply that knowledge later in their lives though. I helped Brindy work through her dog reactivity and I realized that Chuck was not a stubborn dog but was actually very anxious about a lot of things. These two were not only my students when I began dog training, they were also my teachers. RIP Chuck and Brindy.

It’s called the Snoop. It’s one of my favorite treat/feeder dog toys. For some dogs this is the equivalent of buying them a playstation but at a fraction of the cost! What’s your dogs favorite feeder/treat filling dog toy? Providing enrichment for your dog throughout the day is a game changer. Have fun with your dog!

Dog Training pro tip:
Bring treats on your walks. Get yourself a treat pouch or a “nerd pouch” as I jokingly refer to them with my clients. I like this Doggone Good treat pouch. What’s your favorite treat pouch?!

If you have a backyard get a bird feeder! It will bring you joy. You’ll see red headed birds that you weren’t aware of. :) Thanks to my friend Alev for the feeder!

I’m demoing a hunting game, “back tracking” with Toni for her peeps. Good times! It’s a nice interactive game to play with your dog that helps to improve your bond and make you more relevant. I love to pair some of these games while at the park along with our recall work. Have fun with your dog!

I’m so proud of how far along this rock star has come. I learn from this little dude every time I work with him. If you are working with reactivity, anxiety, or even just working on some basics with your dog, easy wins are great and some days off from training are huge. Make sure you are toggling your sessions. Some days easy, some hard, some medium. Randomize the difficulty of your sessions. Give your dog breaks whenever necessary… and ofcourse as always… Have fun with your dog!

I am happy to announce that I have passed Malena DeMartini's Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer certification and have been accepted as a CSAT. This course was extremely thorough, well organized, very supportive, and I can honestly say I am a much better dog trainer having completed it. It is a rigorous program but in the best way possible. I was humbled by how much care and effort Malena, Tiffany, and Maia put into teaching all of us. I cannot say enough about how positive the experience was. Thank you Malena DeMartini, Tiffany Lovell, and Maia Huff-Owen for your feedback and support throughout the program!
