Red Hook Farms Flowers and Forebears Project honors our brother Yousef Abu Rabea, a young Palestinian farmer from north Gaza who was martyred last week in an Israeli airstrike, as he was distributing seedlings for his community. He would have been at home here at the farms, we would have traded seeds in another lifetime. Our love and solidarity to those farming and stewarding land here and globally - under occupation, as an act of resistance. Tahia Yousef Abu Rabea ❤️‍🩹

Last week Farmers Brendan and Saara went on a triboro tour of compost sites through the coalition - it gave us so much perspective and inspiration to visit Green Feen in the Bronx, Compost Power and Brotherhood/Sister Sol in Manhattan, then welcome folks to our site, and finally close out Brooklyn at BK Rot and East NY Farms - so much love to our composter farmer educator friends, these community compost sites are doing the WORK!!

With funding support from city council, we’re able to reopen our Columbia farm site to community food scrap collection - starting this Saturday, 10/26! 🔸 Remember - no meat, dairy, bones, or trash. And get your applications in for the compost coordinator position - see link in bio!🔸

🍂Thank you to everyone who came to the annual Red Hook Harvest Festival this past Saturday! 🍂 we sunbathed, pumpkin patched, pony rode, pounded flowers, seeked and found, explored compost, crafted, ate, vibed, and more! 🍂 thank you to the farms for holding us through time, gifting us back the fruits from the seeds we put in, easing our pain, nourishing our spirits, and providing the solid ground on which to build this beloved community 🍂

We were so honored to participate in the New School’s Seeds of Sumoud forum on Monday, featuring farm heroes we’ve long admired from afar: Vivien Sansour .sansour, Reem Aseel .assil, and Laila El-Haddad . These three incredible storytellers and activists shared thoughts and reflections about Palestinian food sovereignty, through seed saving, recipe preservation, and sharing exquisite meals in humble kitchens. With our friends from F.I.G. organizing nourishment, Farmer Anisha offered a foraged greens stew, with greens from . Kousa, zaatar, hyacinth bean, fig leaves, amaranth, and celosia from the farms were woven through the tables and taken home by many. It truly was an honor to meet these incredible women and break bread with so many beloveds. 🫓🍲🌾💚
