The final day of our Puerto Rican adventure came with torrential downpours. But, that didn't stop the interns from sharing what they learned & the positive impacts the experience had on them with our hosts 🌴⛈️

🌱 Today, in Cañon San Cristóbal Nature Reserve, WCS interns volunteered at a native tree nursery.

🦋 After, we had the chance to release monarch butterflies in their Monarch Waystation.

🎨 We finished off with a botanical illustration workshop led by the staff of Para La Naturaleza.

Yesterday, ⛰️WCS interns visited the San Cristobal Canyon. The road to the Canyon was challenging because San Cristóbal is a topographic formation consisting of cliffs that form depressions and deep valleys; however, nothing is impossible for powerful minds willing to connect with nature.

Sometimes it's the very people who can't imagine anything or who do the things no one can imagine ✨🧗

☕ Planting coffee trees is like saying, "let's turn this garden into a party, and the beans are the VIPs" ~☕

Coffee trees 🌱 are really sensitive to changes in temperature 🥶🥵 and are only grown in countries around the equator (like 🇵🇷)

✨ EcoVivencias interns helped plant coffee trees and tasted coffee that was prepared differently to understand some of the different flavors of coffee! ✨

Wcs Interns had the opportunity to visit Punta Guanaquilla, La Parguera, and El Conuco to explore the conservation efforts taken by Para La Naturaleza within these nature reserves. 🌱

We heard environmental specialists go into detail about ecological projects such as reforestation and managing endemic as well as invasive species.

Our visit to the Rio Encantado Natural Protected Area site turned out to be a special sight. The Puerto Rican crested toad is the only toad endemic to the Puerto Rican Island and was thought to be extinct since 1967. Until a small population was discovered and a restoration program began, woohoo! zoo

⛰️WCS interns trek El Yunque National Rainforest, the only tropical rainforest in the US Forest service ⛰️

A tough climb 🥾 but we were rewarded with amazing views and enchanting wildlife ✨✨ both in the day and after dark! 🌝🌚
