Chocolate is a playful young girl who is a total social butterfly. She is stunning - a gorgeous deep brown coat that makes her stand out! She is wiggly, silly, and everything you could want in a puppy (she is 1 year old). Her sweet eyes always looking around for her new bff. She had lived with one adult and 4 children from the ages of 2 to 15 and was outgoing and friendly with all. Her favorite spot to hang out was in the childrens’ bedroom. On walks she was always friendly with other dogs on leash. At the shelter she was more focused on getting treats than greeting another dogs (relatable). Chocolate is playful and her long legs help her leap across the play yard in just two big jumps. Her owner said she was absolutely the best and we have to concur. She is available for a beginner adopter and her id is #185089

Snow ❄️ Something we may be dreaming of during this sweltering heat wave, and someone I have been dreaming of since meeting her. Snow is a compact 45lbs, which is perfect because her preferred place to be was on my lap. I feed her some peanut butter, and if a dog was ever in heaven, it was Snow licking her treat. She squints her eyes in the sun, completely zenned out. Her sweet, spotted, elf ears airplane out while her tail wags behind her. Snow is truly as cute as they get.

Snow sadly lost her owner a few months ago when they passed away. Next of kin wasn’t able to successfully keep or rehome her, so she is waiting with us until she finds a home. Snow is noted to be playful and friendly with strangers, and at the shelter she has been affectionate. She likes to play tug, and is described as social, affectionate and vocal. We see some of her vocal ways when she responds to sirens in the distance with the song of her own people! Snow let her former guardian bathe her, but took a little time getting used to her new guardian bathing her, so someone who can move at her speed with handling would be best. Snow is looking for an experienced home without other dogs. She is at Brooklyn ACC and her ID is #202005. Bring peanut butter!

Meet Bruno the Activist. What is he Bruno campaigning for, you may ask? His platform is modest: 1) unlimited stuffed toys for all the shelter dogs. 2) an end to cutting treats in half and trying to pass them off as 2 treats. 3) a home for himself and all his friends. Politically, we align with Bruno and he will be getting our vote, but we want it stated for the record that we never cut his treats in half.

Bruno is the vey definition of cute. Bouncing around with his stuffed sloth, he lands on my lap to play. Pawing and chewing gently, his nose is so boopable I have to stop myself from trying! This waggy boy started out nervous at the shelter, but quickly loosened up. He has met a few dogs during his stay. Back in April he greeted a dog softly but became nervous and walked away. He returned but was startled by her paw slaps. More recently he met another dog with a dog with a soft and wiggly body, offered a bounce and play bow. When the gates were opened he came “in hot” making the other dog uncomfortable, and was moved away for the other dog’s comfort. The next day he met 2 more dogs with a soft and wiggly greeting, exuberantly expressing his interest in them, soliciting their attention and maintaining a soft, wiggly inviting posture. Bruno the Activist is looking for an experienced home and he is at Brooklyn ACC. His ID is # 197942

Rest In Peace 🌈🐾💔Israh is as wiggly as a bowl of jello, and just as sweet. He wiggles so much I worry his back side may wiggle right off of him. But it doesn’t (phew!) and we are gifted with Israh’s cuddles and cuteness instead. Israh is truly an absolute delight. He holds his new stuffed lambie in his mouth and walks between us for attention. He knows the therapeutic value of his love, and doles it out in equal measure. He slides himself under my legs, peeking out the other side with his toy, and I could faint from how adorable his pink pigmented snoot looks when he glances back at me.

Israh arrived with Lucia ( #200078, available for adoption) and puppy Gaspar ( #200076, placed with rescue) after the trio was abandoned in an apartment complex. Israh has been kennel reactive at the shelter. He was introduced to a novel female dog while off leash at the care center and greeted with a tense body and high stiff tail before walking away. Based on his reactivity at the shelter, Israh is recommended to a home without dogs and one that can manage him around dogs. This charming young guy is available for public adoption. His full notes are at the emergency placement link in our bio. You can also reach out to rescues you like, or complete the pre-screener linked in our bio to have the shelter share your interest with rescues. Otherwise please share him! Israh’s ID is #200077 and he is at Brooklyn ACC.

Adopted! If Gianni went to high school he’d be homecoming king. Or he’d be voted best looking in the yearbook. A dog available to beginner homes, it surprises me to see his handsome face in his kennel, laying patiently in his bed, week after week.

When we bring him out he settles at our feet. He loves getting his head scratched, and leans back and squints his eyes closed in relaxation. Cheek rubs are also a favorite pastime, and he pushes his head to the side and into your hands to maximize your efforts.

Gianni was found stray, tied up near a police precinct. He was friendly when he arrived at the shelter. He’s also met a dog who he greeted with a soft body. He’s available to adopt at Brooklyn ACC where is ID is #197509.

A black and white cookie - err bunny - er puppy is available at Brooklyn ACC. His name is Musa and he is 3 years old with tons of personality. He is only 45 pounds but his ears and exuberance makes that hard to believe! Musa is all about the good life - fun and new friends! He quickly wiggles his little body up to anyone who's near, winning them over with his big smile and waggy tail. He hops after toys running back and forth across the yard, bounding great distances without touching the ground. Musa came to us when a new baby came into his family. His former family reported he is super friendly with strangers, dogs and young kids! We can confirm he is a total wiggle butt and prone to belly rubs! He is social and even though he is up for a run he can be a total couch potato too. His former family said their favorite thing about him was how much he loved to be touched and kissed. He loves chew toys and burrowing in blankets. If you are interested in this snuggle bunny, his id is #195409

Rest In Peace 🌈🐾💔Venturo is a head turner. The kind of dog you may see on the street and stop to stare at. His tri-color pattern and tan “eyebrows” are stunning. We meet him when he is under the weather, but his personality shines through anyway. He loves toys, and runs to retrieve them, pausing to catch his breath before returning. We keep the game short and give him his toys to play with in his kennel, and switch to some culinary options instead. Peanut butter and pupperoni are favorites, but I have a feeling this meatball isn’t too picky! And while I didn’t get to see it myself that day, I am told that on other days Venturo has flopped for a belly rub.

This gorgeous guy was found wandering an apartment complex and picked up by a resident and brought to us. Venturo is struggling at the shelter and needs immediate placement through a rescue. If you are interested, you can reach out to a rescue or complete the pre-screener linked in our bio to have your interest sent to rescues. His ID is #198246 and he is at Brooklyn ACC.

Tommy hops on my lap and flops to the side like the happy noodle he is. I love his muzzle, like he dipped his face in dark cocoa and came up smiling. I love watching him play; a young, athletic boy full of life running care free. I love when he sidles up or perches on my lap to be pet. I love when he stands tall in his kennel to peer between the bars as me as I pass, hoping for treats and attention (he gets both). You may have noticed a theme here - I love Tommy! And so does everyone who has spent time with him.

Tommy was surrended with a timid cat (Nina #197270) due to a pet policy in new housing. He also lived with 2 children. At the shelter, Tommy met a novel dog and tensed up and barked, paw slapping the gate out of frustration. For now he is recommended as an only dog, but otherwise he is available to most homes!

Placed w rescue! When I meet Roxy, frankly I have no idea why we are meeting her! This wire haired girl is so unique looking and just adorable I can't believe she has found herself at a shelter. Roxy is a year old, and does have some fearful tendencies so she should go to a home that is ready to support her confidence journey! Her former owner could not afford vet care to care for her sensitive skin (and we can't imagine her gorgeous coat once her skin is 100% healthy!) Her former family said she loves bathtimes, bones, and playing! She had lived with two smaller children, a puppy, and a small dog. Around the children and pups she knew she was friendly but can show reactive tendencies around new dogs. Which of course makes the shelter stressful! She had been crate trained, is reported to be housetrained and loves water! She had some trouble walking very far in this home due to fear, so she will need a home with patience. Roxy is at risk and needs immediate placement through a rescue. You can complete the pre-screener linked in our bio to express interest or reach out to a rescue on your own. Otherwise please share this post. Her id is #197189

At risk!! Dutchess is a pint sized princess with a queen sized personality! When we let her loose in the yard she NEVER. STOPS. MOVING. Her tail is a whirring helicopter, her b***y is shaking a mile a minute, and she freely gives kisses to everyone! When we try to get her to sit for a treat, she hikes up on her back legs giving us a taste of the Cha Cha Cha until we succumb to her demands and give her a snack. She only briefly stops moving when we give her some spray cheese directly into her mouth-which she loves! Dutchess has easily danced into our hearts and we know she’ll do the same to you!

Dutchess’ guardian said her favorite thing about Dutchess was that she would snuggle in bed with her. She also likes to steal things around the house until you give chase to give it back-such a character! Dutchess was originally rescued by her guardian when her owner abandoned her and Empress. And due to her most recent guardian being evicted, she is in need of rescue again. Dutchess is in need of emergency placement for deteriorating in the shelter. She will do best in an experienced home with no other pets. Dutchess is approx 2 years old, 40 pounds and her ID is #192954 You can reserve her directly via the EPL in our bio or fill out the prescreener form to express interest in fostering.

At risk! Everything about Shadow is big, in the best way. 111lbs of pure handsome, he is stately to say the least. The kind of dog who people would stop to stare at and admire while walking with his guardian. Instead, Shadow has found himself at risk at a shelter, following a move where he wasn’t able to accompany his former guardian. Let’s talk about his many, many assets. For one, his head is bigger than mine is. I’m not sure that’s an asset but I think we can all agree it’s very impressive anyway! On to his ears, as big as Dumbo’s! Ok maybe an exaggeration but when he runs towards me with his jowls and ears flapping in the wind I imagine him taking flight, and going somewhere far away. And last but not least, let’s hear it for the tail. A tail that happily helicopters so big that if his ears don’t make him take flight, maybe that tail will!

In his previous home Shadow was described as social, affectionate and sometimes a couch potato. At the shelter he has been struggling and is in need of immediate placement via a rescue. You can contact one or complete the prescreener linked in our bio to have your interest shared with rescues. Shadow is 4 years old, his ID is #190455 and he is at Brooklyn ACC.

AT RISK! A very silly meatball awaits a loving family - and that meatballs name is Justice! Justice is a larger than life BFF - his lovehandles and neck wrinkles are just to die for. At first, he timidly greets us, accepting butt scratches but eating very little. The next time we meet this handsome man, he is much more comfortable and outgoing! He zooms around the play yard, faster than you think a chunky man could. He is about 3 years old, so he is a young active boy. Justice previously lived with 2 adults and one baby. He had been friendly and outgoing with strangers and children that he has met, but prefers to stay away from other dogs. His family said he was “the best” and reported to be housetrained, crate trained, a couch potato, and loves bathtime and water! They said he was very loving and loves to be with you and cuddle. Justice has been struggling at the shelter and is at risk for this. He will need time and patience to adapt to a new home. Justice is 3 years old, 74 pounds, and available for public adoption. His id is #194704

AT RISK! A cutie named Judy stops us in our tracks when we see her sweet face. Immediately we know a pink spring dress is the outfit for her. Her ears flop over her head as she strikes a pose for the camera. Judy came to us when her owner could not find housing that allowed her. She had lived with 4 adults and 1 child. Judy is a ridiculously sweet girl who’s been a social butterfly with strangers, children and other dogs. She also reportedly loves car rides so she is ready to help you plan for a summer road trip. Her favorite things are to play outside and eat fruit (yum!). She knows basic tricks, and is all around incredibly loving. Judy has a hip luxation, and for that reason she is put at risk despite being so sweet she is suitable for a beginner home. She is about a year old and her id is #196732 Judy can be reserved on the emergency placement page

Thunder was let loose in our parking lot but thankfully, staff was able to secure him and transport him into the shelter. Even after what undoubtedly was a traumatic “surrender” for him, Thunder was still friendly on intake, allowing handling and his photo to be taken. In looking at his notes from his short time with us, Thunder goes from “pancaking against the ground” when being removed from his kennel, to dodging the leash by getting into a play bow position a few days later, to greeting handlers with a wiggly body and wagging tail which is exactly how we meet him for the first time. Thunder wooed us with his endearing puppy face, bright hazel eyes and warm smile, but he really seals the deal when he lays his head in our lap, ready for some cuddles. Lately, he’s brave enough to chase toys around the yard, seeks affection and petting from us, and readily eats the goodies we have to offer. When Thunder meets another dog offleash in the yard he, “Greets her with exuberant play bows, bounces, spins, and vocalizes. The female does not reciprocate and becomes uncomfortable with his exuberance.” Thunder has been struggling in his kennel, and is now at risk for euthanasia. He is recommended to an experienced home with no kids under the age of 13. Thunder is 1 year old, 52 pounds and his ID is #195210 You can express interest in fostering him by filling out the prescreener form in our bio or reserve him for adoption via the Emergency Placement link.

Goose is a goofy guy, despite the cricumstances he cam eot us. He was found tied up in a park with a cord and an injury on his neck that is causing significant swelling. Goose doesn’t give a second thought to his life before now, he walked in to ACC with a wiggly body, ready to greet all his new friends. He leaped into laps for pets and gently snuggled. It seems like laps are his favorite spot to sit, and he makes the most of his time in the yard with us by plopping himself down on me. Upon my lap, he gets yummy snacks, belly scratches, and does super cute tippy taps while waiting for peanut butter. When greeting another dog at the shelter, Goose said hi with a soft wiggly body and walked away. Goose is a young man, estimated to be 3 years old, so of course he has some energy to burn. Goose is looking for an experienced adopter to help him settle into his new home. His id is #194829

Placed w rescue! We don’t know why, but Chicharron (or as I call her, “Chicky”) is very afraid to go outside and now refuses to leave the building for walks; but the volunteers have a daily ritual to make sure she gets much-needed exercise and socialization. We take her to an empty room (which she now knows well and happily pulls to go into) and as soon as I drop the leash, she’s off doing zoomies and jumping up on the bench. As she watches me approach, her eyes wide with excitement, she slowly rolls into belly-rub position! And there we sit – me rubbing her cute little tummy…and cheeks…and chin…and ears….and back….and even her paws – and Chicky rolling around in utter bliss while giving my hands little kisses. I hand-feed her treats as she splays out on her side basking in all the attention, her tail softly thumping. Being a highly energetic puppy, Chicky can get overexuberant; but I tell her to sit and she complies immediately. Of course, she’ll need more training – housebreaking, walking on a leash, and other basic cues – but Chicky’s got an excellent foundation – she’s really young, highly social, very treat-motivated, and has already mastered “sit”! Chicharron is 9 months old and her ID is #192325

Returned to owner! Pony is a pocket-sized 43lbs, petite even as far as ponies go. She showed up one day in someone’s driveway. Assuming someone would get her, her finder waited, but no one came. They opened their door and Pony came right in. In her early days at the shelter, Pony was social and affectionate. She was walkable by new volunteers and available to most homes. But this tan and white beauty is a young and active girl, and like many dogs we would describe that was, the shelter has been hard on her. When we met her she ran after toys, bringing them back for the next throw, while zooming around the yard. Today she has a hard time leaving her kennel, reacting to dogs around her. When Pony met a dog early in her stay, she greeted and walked away and then ignored him. On a recent walk she saw a dog and handler walking and laid flat down watching them, rising when they went inside. She is recommended as a solo dog and would do best in an adult home who can commit to force free training and enrichment. Pony is at Brooklyn ACC and her ID is #194142

Theo is the definition of handsome. Big head, perfect sit, Theo knows he can get all the snackies for being this cute and polite. He briefly runs after toys, bouncing around having a blast, but comes back to us for the most fun thing of all (chicken). We love his gray coat, his confident personality, and his snuggles! Theo was originally abandoned at a police precinct. Somehow this perfect boy lost his home. Theo has been an easy leash walker, easy going with dogs he met at the shelter, playful, cuddly, and gentle. Really just an all around amazing boy. He is so good he got to go to an adoption event where he was quickly adopted, but since that adoption he has had a seizure and the adopter did not feel prepared to care for his medical needs. Behavior wise, Theo is rated for a beginner home and he is really a star. Theo should have an adopter willing to follow up with his medical needs, but is sure to be a great family member and best friend for whoever is lucky enough to take him home. He is about 4 years old and his id is #193443

AT RISK! Sweet Prometheus has a serious boys name for such a silly guy. Prometheus is tiny, and stretches up his body as far as he can to nuzzle into us. Placing his two wittle paws on a lap to get them off the cold ground and wagging his curly cue tail, he sneaks in a few ear kisses, Every time we stop rubbing his neck, he nudges his head back into us to say “more petties please!” Prometheus was originally adopted back in January, but was returned to us more recently. Since then, he has been very stressed being back with us, pacing in his kennel and panting excessively. He has been resistant to eat a even the yummiest of treats due to his stress. In his first shelter stay with us, he was a different boy. He had been walkable by our newest volunteers and it saddens us to see how stressed he is coming back. In his adoptive home for two months he was reported to be friendly with strangers, respectful of the kitty he lived with (but not necessarily with street cats!), and was outgoing around other dogs. He is a young guy between 1 and 3 years old, so of course he has energy and likes to jump around and play. His id is #191078

Placed w rescue ! Almost exactly a year ago, Sasha came to ACC as a stray. Over the last year she’s spent a lot of time in foster, where they described her as a love bug who loves to cuddle and be near her people. While she has struggled at the shelter, she has also blessed us with her piggie snorts and “parrot mouth” chompies. At the shelter she’s been reactive to dogs, but one previous foster said she did well with slow intros. Regardless Sasha is stressed and will need ample decompression time away from dogs and the shelter, while she acclimates back to the real world. Below is a bio from her long time foster, who we thank for giving a good girl a long respite from a hard place. Sasha is available for public adoption, and you can see her full notes at the emergency placement link on our bio, or visit her at the shelter. You can also complete the pre-screener to be sent to interested rescues. Her ID is #165675 and sharing her is the best way to help 🙏🏽

Sasha’s foster writes: My name is Sasha and I’ve been with my foster for almost a year now. I’m good with other dogs but I need slow introductions. I get curious with other dogs but I’m not aggressive. I like to be sitting next to my foster while they work from home. I don’t like to be left alone at home for a long period of time. I tend to get bored when I’m left at home by myself. I know commands such as sit, stay, and leave it (I’m still working on that one). I’m getting better at walking on the leash but I still get distracted by squirrels, cats, and other small dogs. I’m a gentle girl who is looking for a forever home where I can get all of the attention. I’m good with children and other dogs ( I just need slow introductions). I would preferably like to be the only dog in the home just so that I can have all of your attention. I’m always willing to learn new tricks and strive to make my owner happy.

Tanner is a sweet little guy, closely resembling what we imagine a potato on four legs to look like. He looks like he has baby fat he hasn’t grown out of that we just want to squeeze and kiss. Tanner can be shy initially, but after all our cooing and compliments he wiggles his little self over leaning right into our laps for cuddles. He has fancy white gloves on his paws, almost sea green eyes, and a pink adorable nose. Tanner is so so cute, with a parrot mouth, floppy ears and a puppy vibe. He is estimated to be 4, but we have to think he seems like a baby! He was found wandering around a building alone and no one claimed him, so the police brought him to us. At first, he was shy but now that he has been with us and gotten more used to the new surroundings, Tanner is a complete ham, flopping after treats, zooming across the floor, and jumping into laps. Tanner is already neutered and can go home today. His id is #191538

Black dogs have a hard time standing out and Chuck is no exception. He is easily looked over because he doesn’t have a special brindle pattern or cow spots, but Chuck is undoubtedly special He has been very shy at the shelter, and his owner’s notes reflect that behavior around new people, but there’s a certain something about Chuck that is wonderful, and we know in a home he will be such a joy to his new family.
Chuck is a special black boy who came to us when his owner was evicted. He had lives with 3 adults and an 8 year old child. With strangers, Chuck can be shy but warms up and is friendly. Chuck is also shy around new dogs and avoids them, but his former gaurdian said once he worms up he is comfortable off leash and is playful and outgoing. With cats, Chuck is also shy but warms up and becomes comfortable. Chuck is very people affectionate and likes to spend time with his humans. He loves bath time and all water, and is reported to be crate trained for up to 5 hours. His humans told us that the best thing about Chuck is how much he loves being with his family. Chuck is about a year old and his id is #191177

To be honest, giant dogs aren’t always my thing. But Sahara is someone special. At 114lbs she is skinny, maybe 25+lbs underweight. She has enough jowls for 5 or 6 dogs, at least, and her leg rolls are simply breathtaking. My big hands look petite when I pet her enormous head, and disappear when I try to place a treat in her mouth. She has ectropion and lets us clean her eyes gently with a wet towel. She lays her head in our laps, and we take in this sweet gentle giant before us.Sahara was found at a home where the owner passed away. Unfortunately nothing is known about this beauty’s past. At the shelter she met a novel male dog and approached the gate and greeted timidly. She got nervous and walked away. All 114lbs of Sahara are waiting to meet you at Brooklyn ACC where her ID is #192642

At risk!! “She only does that to the people she likes,” I was told as she gently propped up on my arm for a “Charlotte hug.” After a few days of speaking quietly to Charlotte each time I saw her in her crate, I finally get a chance to meet her and she’s every bit as sweet as I imagined. And when I get the “Charlotte hug” I know we’ll be fast friends. She’s been bunking in our manager’s office, her crate outfitted with a nice, comfy bed that she’s been entrusted with because she is so housebroken. Her notes are filled with accolades from her favorite staff like, “loose and wiggly,” “walks nicely,” “leans on handlers chest,” and “relaxed and comfortable in her crate.” Charlotte was found by a good samaritan hiding on a playground and while she’s been overwhelmingly tender and sweet with those she feels secure with, she has shown some fearful behaviors to novice people. She has a smattering of notes telling us that she knows how to communicate her discomfort and her new family should be prepared to let Charlotte acclimate at her own pace. For this reason she is only available to foster through one of our New Hope Partners. If you are interested in fostering Charlotte, fill out the prescreener form linked in our bio. Charlotte is approx 6 years old, a petite 46 pounds and her ID is #191631

Placed w rescue For the past few weeks I have admired Reina from behind her kennel bars. Her lower lip is something else, a world wonder. I pass her frowning face over and over while she watches me, pouting as I walk by with other dogs. Her ears are my personal kryptonite. Big, tall oblong saucers. I finally was blessed to meet her outside of her kennel last weekend and this pouting princess did not disappoint. I adore a playful dog and she was delighted to indulge me. Reina waited all day to come out for a break, and though it was already dark out she didn’t seem to mind one bit. She ran happy circles with her new toys, before hopping on the bench to further indulge me in some cuddling.

Reina, like many dogs in our overpopulated shelter, is struggling in her kennel at times. She was found running loose on the street, and while initially fearful with the police officers who brought her in, she allowed all handling and was friendly with staff when she arrived. She has been reactive more recently to dogs passing her kennel. In her dog tests she approached one dog “with an exaggerated approach, coming in quickly and sporadic” before barking and being move to another pen, and in a second test she greeted, tensed and walked away. Reina will do best being allowed ample decompression. She is available for direct adoption, or you can express your interest to a rescue via the pre-screener link in our bio or by reaching out to one directly. The best thing you can do to help her or any of our dogs is to share them, and like and comment on her post. Reina’s ID is #189517.

This playful guy is Cody and he is really coming out of his shell! We gave Cody an emotional support stuffie and he was just the happiest boy! I don’t think he dropped his lambchop toy even once! He was so proud he galloped in circles showing off. His best move, the one we loved most, was jumping up and landing right in our laps perfectly. He really stuck the landing so we asked him to do it again and again, and though Cody is a stray who likely doesn’t know his name yet, he did a great job running happily between us and delighting in our exuberant praise. We think Cody would love an active home, that let’s him stretch his legs and provides him with stuffed lambies and love. Due to observed arousal behaviours, Cody would do best in an experienced home and one without kids. He was anxious during his gate greeting, and didn’t greet the other dog. Meet Cody at Brooklyn ACC where his ID is #191225
