In addition to his cartoonishly cute mug that will stop you in your tracks, Pop has such a fun personality that it's a mystery while he is still sitting in the shelter, waiting for his forever home. He's a medium-energy pup who loves—loves!—to play, and it doesn't take much to make him happy: He can easily entertain himself with a tennis ball or two. (He doesn't like to brag, but his secret talent is stashing two of them in his mouth at once.) He'd love to go to a home that can keep him active and provide him with all the toys and chews his heart desires.

Pop was previously adopted by a family who noted how affectionate and social he was, as well as how he loved car rides and knows commands for "sit" and "stay." Unfortunately due to no fault of his own, he was returned to the shelter in May. In a former home this wiggly guy lived with two children and another dog; it is recommended that he go to a home with no children under 13. His if is #168283

REST IN PEACE 🌈💔🐾Bear is one of the first new dogs we meet at the new shelter. A beautiful brindle boy who loves toys. We take him on a stroll on our new neighborhood, stopping at graffitied walls to take his photos. We are grateful for his good nature and support as we learn about our new space and all the best places to make our pups shine. Seated on a ledge we offer him a toy that he is just so delighted to have. He doesn’t part with it for more than a few seconds, propping himself off and wagging while showing it to me. It’s a hot, hot day and Bear seems to know self care is important no matter where you are. He flops over on the sidewalk, toy in paws, hips and legs kicked out.

Bear was found tied to a tree and freed by police who brought him in loose in their car and reported him to be friendly. While initially he did well at the shelter, he quickly deteriorated and in just 10 days is at risk. He is available through a rescue only and you can complete the prescreener in our bio or reach out to a rescue with interest. Otherwise please share Bear for a home. His ID is #205778 and he’s at Queens ACC

At risk!! I have a really soft spot for this sweet, gentle giant. Jam greets me in his kennel full of wiggles, with his little nub of a tail swishing back and forth, as he bashfully lowers his head and hangs back, hesitant to leave the security of his kennel. But with some encouraging words, he’s soon brave enough to come out, walking past all the barking dogs as fast as he can.

On our walks, Jam is vigilant, keeping an eye on everything around him. Some things seem scary, yet also pique his curiosity….like the moving forklift beeping in the warehouse across the street or a scooter whizzing by. He’ll move close to me and gently lean in – I think feeling a sense of protection – as he quietly observes the activity. Sometimes though, the noise is so overwhelming (as with loud sirens, fireworks, and blasting car music) that he turns and pulls to go back into the shelter.

Once back in his little cocoon (aka, his kennel) where he feels safe and secure, he resumes his wags and wiggles as I interact with him. He puts his big, sweet head into my hands, accepting brief cheek-rubs, which is all the touch he’s comfortable with at this time. I ask him to sit while holding up a treat, and he quickly complies, then gently takes it from my hand. I do it again and this time lower my hand and say “down”…and to my delight, he happily does this too! That deserves three more treats!

We don’t know Jam’s history with other dogs (he came to us a stray), but when we introduced him to one of our other residents, he greeted her, then immediately walked away and ignored her. He panted heavily, paced back and forth, and kept to himself…likely feeling just too stressed to focus on socializing.

I think once Jam is fully relaxed and comfortable with his new family, he’s going to blossom into a huge lovebug! You can meet this big, sweet boy at our Brooklyn shelter where he’s been hoping to find his fur-ever home.

Jam can be adopted directly or fostered through a rescue. You can reserve him by clicking on the Emergency Placement link in our bio. His ID is #203000 he is approx 2 years old and 75 pounds.

Rest In Peace 🌈🐾💔
There’s a storm blowing through - just kidding - its just Stormy! This spritely girl is a dreamboat of a companion. In the yard she just wiggles up to everyone and anyone, knowing that she is so cute we just HAVE to give her all our attention.
Stormy was found as a stray, so we aren’t sure of her behavior history prior to now. Stormy is a social girl and the more people enter a room the more she wiggles! Stormy loves to give kisses, flop for belly rubs, and woo everyone in the room. She is almost dachshund shaped with her long body and short legs! Stormy knows a few tricks - sit and shake - but her best trick is being the most gigantic ham. She just nuzzles and leans into everyone, begging for a little bit of love before she has to go back inside. Stormy is extremely puppy like even though she is estimated to be 2 years old. Stormy is at risk and is available for a rescue partner. The prescreener is linked in our bio if you think you may be a good fit. Her id is #

154 days. That’s how many days ago Maryland was surrendered to the shelter due to NYC public housing breed bans. For 154 days Maryland, whose real name is Diamond, has lived and slept in a kennel. It was past time she got a break.

So we sprung her for the day, and drove her to the beach. After seeing her week after week in her kennel, it was pure magic to see her there. In the real world. Romping through the water, splashing, and racing back to us each time she caught us watching. The real joy for me came when she slowed down. Stood waist deep in the ocean and stared out to the horizon. A dog I normally see behind kennel bars, for the first time looked relaxed and free. I watched and watched her until she caught me, and then laughed as she bounced like a bunny through the water back toward me.

Maryland’s almost childlike curiosity made me smile. The way she hopped towards things to check them out - a horseshoe crab, a clamshell, an abandoned boat. How she showed off her fishing skills by bringing us things she found in the ocean. How easily she took to a frisbee, catching it as it rolled around the beach and running it back to us for another throw.

We wrapped up our day like any good shelter field trip and took her to the drive through. She got her own ice cream cone and wiggled so happily about it that she may have gotten another.

Maryland has been waiting for 154 long days and nights. She is at Brooklyn ACC and her ID is #192772.

Good with other pets?
According to Maryland's previous owner, she hard barks at unfamiliar dogs. She barks at unfamiliar dogs but is friendly with those she knows. At the shelter she met a novel dog with hackles raised, a high flagging tail and wide eyes. She then began to skitter and offered quick bounces and spins
before racing away. On another occasion when she was playing with handlers, she continued to be social with them and solicited pets and jumped
up on the gate with a loose, wiggly body when another dog was brought out. Though she has been social at the shelter, Maryland may need time to warm up to new people based on her guardian's notes. Since ACC does not do cat- testing in care, we are unsure of how she would be with cats.
Good with kids?
Due to Maryland's fearfulness, we recommend no small kids

It’s funny that we have any pictures of Gus sitting up, because all I remember him doing was nose diving at our feet into a belly flop. Even when we tried to entice him into a game of fetch, he just brought his toy back and rolled over to play and get loved on. Gus is 85lbs of love, a gorgeous tri-color with eyebrows, cropped ears, and a boatload of sweet personality. He seems to have not one care in the world while he rolls around when we spend time with him, and i love that for him. This most handsome man arrived at the shelter with the police after an anonymous person dropped him off and left. Gus has bladder stones, which the shelter is running diagnostics on and can tell you more about. At the shelter he met a female dog and greeted her with a soft and wiggly, thought she was uninterested in him. Gus’ ID is #202432 and he is at Brooklyn ACC.

Chocolate is a playful young girl who is a total social butterfly. She is stunning - a gorgeous deep brown coat that makes her stand out! She is wiggly, silly, and everything you could want in a puppy (she is 1 year old). Her sweet eyes always looking around for her new bff. She had lived with one adult and 4 children from the ages of 2 to 15 and was outgoing and friendly with all. Her favorite spot to hang out was in the childrens’ bedroom. On walks she was always friendly with other dogs on leash. At the shelter she was more focused on getting treats than greeting another dogs (relatable). Chocolate is playful and her long legs help her leap across the play yard in just two big jumps. Her owner said she was absolutely the best and we have to concur. She is available for a beginner adopter and her id is #185089

Snow ❄️ Something we may be dreaming of during this sweltering heat wave, and someone I have been dreaming of since meeting her. Snow is a compact 45lbs, which is perfect because her preferred place to be was on my lap. I feed her some peanut butter, and if a dog was ever in heaven, it was Snow licking her treat. She squints her eyes in the sun, completely zenned out. Her sweet, spotted, elf ears airplane out while her tail wags behind her. Snow is truly as cute as they get.

Snow sadly lost her owner a few months ago when they passed away. Next of kin wasn’t able to successfully keep or rehome her, so she is waiting with us until she finds a home. Snow is noted to be playful and friendly with strangers, and at the shelter she has been affectionate. She likes to play tug, and is described as social, affectionate and vocal. We see some of her vocal ways when she responds to sirens in the distance with the song of her own people! Snow let her former guardian bathe her, but took a little time getting used to her new guardian bathing her, so someone who can move at her speed with handling would be best. Snow is looking for an experienced home without other dogs. She is at Brooklyn ACC and her ID is #202005. Bring peanut butter!

Meet Bruno the Activist. What is he Bruno campaigning for, you may ask? His platform is modest: 1) unlimited stuffed toys for all the shelter dogs. 2) an end to cutting treats in half and trying to pass them off as 2 treats. 3) a home for himself and all his friends. Politically, we align with Bruno and he will be getting our vote, but we want it stated for the record that we never cut his treats in half.

Bruno is the vey definition of cute. Bouncing around with his stuffed sloth, he lands on my lap to play. Pawing and chewing gently, his nose is so boopable I have to stop myself from trying! This waggy boy started out nervous at the shelter, but quickly loosened up. He has met a few dogs during his stay. Back in April he greeted a dog softly but became nervous and walked away. He returned but was startled by her paw slaps. More recently he met another dog with a dog with a soft and wiggly body, offered a bounce and play bow. When the gates were opened he came “in hot” making the other dog uncomfortable, and was moved away for the other dog’s comfort. The next day he met 2 more dogs with a soft and wiggly greeting, exuberantly expressing his interest in them, soliciting their attention and maintaining a soft, wiggly inviting posture. Bruno the Activist is looking for an experienced home and he is at Brooklyn ACC. His ID is # 197942

Rest In Peace 🌈🐾💔Israh is as wiggly as a bowl of jello, and just as sweet. He wiggles so much I worry his back side may wiggle right off of him. But it doesn’t (phew!) and we are gifted with Israh’s cuddles and cuteness instead. Israh is truly an absolute delight. He holds his new stuffed lambie in his mouth and walks between us for attention. He knows the therapeutic value of his love, and doles it out in equal measure. He slides himself under my legs, peeking out the other side with his toy, and I could faint from how adorable his pink pigmented snoot looks when he glances back at me.

Israh arrived with Lucia ( #200078, available for adoption) and puppy Gaspar ( #200076, placed with rescue) after the trio was abandoned in an apartment complex. Israh has been kennel reactive at the shelter. He was introduced to a novel female dog while off leash at the care center and greeted with a tense body and high stiff tail before walking away. Based on his reactivity at the shelter, Israh is recommended to a home without dogs and one that can manage him around dogs. This charming young guy is available for public adoption. His full notes are at the emergency placement link in our bio. You can also reach out to rescues you like, or complete the pre-screener linked in our bio to have the shelter share your interest with rescues. Otherwise please share him! Israh’s ID is #200077 and he is at Brooklyn ACC.
