At risk!! Last night I visited Raveena in her kennel in medical where she’s staying while recovering from an upper respiratory infection. Her kibbles were scattered on her blanket, seemingly untouched, and that is a sure sign that this elderbull isn’t feeling well. When we met her last weekend, her tail literally helicoptered for treats. Nonetheless she wiggled around her little kennel and thumped her tail against the back when she saw me. She climbed the bars and pressed herself to them, and cried mournfully at me. I can’t imagine how much she’d rather be recovering in a home, with a person she barely even knows, instead of the shelter. We gave her treats that were more tempting than kibble so that she could at least get some calories in her, and left knowing she was already at risk.

On another day, just a weekend ago, in better health, Raveena won my heart instantly. She was in a crate stomping her little feet impatiently at me as I approached. Her gray face looked worn, and I have since learned she was found stray and believed by the finder to be owned by a homeless person in the neighborhood. She was full of sass and she jumped her arthritic little body around, making a big show for a little treat.

In addition to presumed arthritis and an upper respiratory infection, Raveena has mammary masses. She is available to beginner level homes, and would really love one to recover in. She’s available directly via the shelter or if you prefer a rescue, you can complete the prescreener in our bio. Her ID is #255268 and she’s at Queens ACC.

Rain ☔️ in spite of her name, I think you may never know a rainy day again with her in your life. Rain was found with wounds, and reportedly with another dog (unknown where that dog is). She came into the shelter and needed emergency surgery, which she got. She’s been handing out with the veterinary staff ever since, but she’s healing well and ready for a home!

I met Rain shortly after her arrival, with fresh stitches in her ears. We took care not to touch her swelling ears but she greeted us with smiles and draped herself over our laps. I think she was happy to be out in the sun with new friends. Each time I’ve seen Rain since, if I’m tending to another dog in a neighboring kennel she woofs at me until I pay her the attention she deserves and pay up for my grave mistake of ignoring her with a treat offering. I love her sweet face and sassy boots so much!

Rain is walkable by our newest volunteers, and available to most homes. You can meet her at Queens ACC, but ask for her by name as she is still in medical and has not made it to the adoption floor yet. Her ID is #254047 and she is four years old and 50 pounds.

Sargento is everyone’s dream boy. He is classically handsome, unbelievably sweet, and a makeshift heated blanket. His face is to die for, and he is so playful and silly. While we wait for his photoshoot, he plops in my lap and rests there for as long as he can, getting in all the love and cuddles he deserves. He sneaks in kisses to us when he can to remind us he needs all the extra love. He had lived with 2 adults and 2 children ages 4 and 16. He has been friendly, playful, and outgoing with all. He had been housetrained, and his favorite thing is to be with his family. He knows sit and stay and enjoys car rides. Sargento is a year old and his id is #241459

Zeke is just a big old teddy bear. He is in good shape, cuddly and so so handsome. Zeke was found tied up at the 11th street A train station. Zeke is 2 years old. When we first meet him, he is clearly stressed by his new surroundings. He warms up slowly and is happy to get pets and love, but isn’t really forthcoming with his personality. But the next week when we meet him he is much more open to sharing more about himself. He wiggles up to us, rubbing against us and even showing us his excellent playing! After he gets a few rounds of fetch in, he is happy to show us all his tricks too. His shyer personality is well worth the wait. Zeke has had mixed reactions to dogs at the shelter. At first he was avoidant. Later, Zeke is introduced to a female dog and he is soft and wiggly, displaying bounces and play bows, but he became frustrated when the other dog was avoiding him. Zeke’s id is #241260
