At risk! Today there are 9 dogs at risk in the Brooklyn shelter, including 4 you haven’t met yet. Their deadline is Tuesday at 12, so to expedite geting them seen we will share 2 dogs in a single post this morning: Surf and Goliath.Starting with Surf, we had the pleasure of meeting this gorgeous, young husky a few weeks ago. His defining characteristics are: wildly handsome, uncoordinated yet adorable with belly flops, and smart enough to know that huskies should stay cool and take dips in the pool. Truly one of the cutest and most unexpected belly flops in the last few months was Surf’s when he basically leaned so far forward with his toy that he ended up on his side. Why choose between playing with your toy or getting loved on when you can have both? An affectionate, energetic boy, Surf was brought in by police in the middle of the night without any information. He met a dog at the shelter and was stiff and tense with raised hackles, but walked away to seek handler attention. Surf is available for public adoption and you can meet him at Brooklyn ACC where his ID is #200180Next up is the aptly named Goliath, who we met for the first time this weekend! At a solid 80lbs, he earned his name. He truly came to life when we brought out some tennis balls. But in these sweltering temps, we thought Goliath may want to cool off in the pool as well. We toss a ball in to peakn his interest and it works! He curiously steps a paw in, then another. Before we know it we are playing pool fetch with Goliath, watching him leap in and out of the pool like a natural athlete! He has so much fun and we love watching him bob for his tennis balls, bopping them around with his paws. Goliath was tied to the fence outside the shelter and noticed by a staff member who brought him in. He was introduced to a novel female dog and approached the gate with a neutral frame, checking in with the novel female dog and walking away. He then ignored her. Goliath is available via a rescue and his ID
Chocolate is a playful young girl who is a total social butterfly. She is stunning - a gorgeous deep brown coat that makes her stand out! She is wiggly, silly, and everything you could want in a puppy (she is 1 year old). Her sweet eyes always looking around for her new bff. She had lived with one adult and 4 children from the ages of 2 to 15 and was outgoing and friendly with all. Her favorite spot to hang out was in the childrens’ bedroom. On walks she was always friendly with other dogs on leash. At the shelter she was more focused on getting treats than greeting another dogs (relatable). Chocolate is playful and her long legs help her leap across the play yard in just two big jumps. Her owner said she was absolutely the best and we have to concur. She is available for a beginner adopter and her id is #185089

If you are looking for extra lips, look no further. Tails is your man (boy?). His lippies are the main attraction here, settling into an oversized pout and providing the most dramatic lip smacks when he chews. This is rivaled by his pink piggie nose though, which on it’s own is swoon-worthy. Good things come in threes, and Tails comes through with a stellar personality to round out his adorable looks. The way he gives paw - so demure and gentle, tapping his paw into your hand! The way he backs into you to sit at your feet while you pet him! He is a a mushy delight in a 60lb tan and white package, complete with classic eye patch! Tails was found on the beach by a Good Samaritan. He is available to homes with a little experience and after almost 2 months at the shelter, we know he needs a break soon. Meet him at Brooklyn ACC where his ID is #199184
AT RISK! The second I see Ivar, I’m already in love. He is a stark white dog with a tongue a mile long and a smile to match! You can tell he is sensitive and sweet by the way he is drawn to us. He came from a big family and lived with 2 adults, a child, a dog, and even a turtle! His owner was joining the military and didn’t have anywhere for Ivar to stay. Ivar was always friendly and outgoing with strangers and children, and around other dogs he is outgoing and playful. He even has some cat experience and is tolerant with them! Ivar is obviously quite the pup getting along with everyone of all species! Ivar’s owner said he is very affectionate and a couch potato. He is crate trained, and (calling all Queens residents) his favorite park is Forest Park! He knows some basic cues, loves fetch and learning! Ivar is really the companion I think everyone daydreams about, and your home could be what Ivar is dreaming about! Ivar is available for public adoption and he can be reserved with the emergency placement link in our bio. If you are interested in fostering, you can fill out the prescreener to be connected with an interested rescue if you are a good fit. His id is #42080
With time, patience, and allowing him to acclimate at his own pace, this floppy-eared boy has been showing us what a great big love-bug he is! Previously, Spoty has been highly nervous and anxious - pacing and whining, crouching down when approached, and unable to settle down. But even with all that, I could see signs of a sweet, social pup trying to come out. Now he wiggles and jiggles during interactions, easily seeking attention. My favorite thing is when he uses my lap as a big, comfy couch, complete with ear-scratches and back-rubs. Sometimes, when I’m sitting on a bench, he likes to stand between my legs, gently nestling into me, with paws lazily hanging over my arms, as he casually takes in the scene...the dog being walked down the block, the car pulling into a spot, the person walking to work - all interesting stuff! We don’t know Spoty’s history with other dogs, but when we introduced him to another resident, he greeted her, but got nervous and walked away. This sweet, adorable mush is hoping to find his fur-ever home and you can meet him today at our Brooklyn shelter. His ID is #200359
Snow ❄️ Something we may be dreaming of during this sweltering heat wave, and someone I have been dreaming of since meeting her. Snow is a compact 45lbs, which is perfect because her preferred place to be was on my lap. I feed her some peanut butter, and if a dog was ever in heaven, it was Snow licking her treat. She squints her eyes in the sun, completely zenned out. Her sweet, spotted, elf ears airplane out while her tail wags behind her. Snow is truly as cute as they get.
Snow sadly lost her owner a few months ago when they passed away. Next of kin wasn’t able to successfully keep or rehome her, so she is waiting with us until she finds a home. Snow is noted to be playful and friendly with strangers, and at the shelter she has been affectionate. She likes to play tug, and is described as social, affectionate and vocal. We see some of her vocal ways when she responds to sirens in the distance with the song of her own people! Snow let her former guardian bathe her, but took a little time getting used to her new guardian bathing her, so someone who can move at her speed with handling would be best. Snow is looking for an experienced home without other dogs. She is at Brooklyn ACC and her ID is #202005. Bring peanut butter!
Mathias is frankly one of the cutest dogs I’ve seen in a while. He is just 10 months old and full of spunk and oozing with adorableness. He is still working off his baby weight, and his giant ears may trick you if you look clearly at him that he is really a big bunny! Mathias doesn’t rely on his handsome mansom looks for attention, his personality is just as amazing as his face! He is playful, super social and a big silly goat. He loves to run and get his energy out in our play yard, finding any toys that may be scattered about. He lost his home due to a no pet policy, but his former’s homes notes may help him find his new home! He had lived with two adults and one child and was friendly and outgoing with everyone and other dogs. He had been soft and wiggly when greeting another dog at the shelter. His former guardian said he wants to play all the time, so we know he is going to be a super fun companion for someone who scoops him up! He is housetrained, wee wee pad trained, and crate trained. He is just a silly boy - wee also heard that he loves playing with bubbles and loves ice cream! Really the best companion you could have with you this summer. His id is #199935
At risk!! Marbles is just about the cutest puppy we’ve seen in a long time! Like, seriously? Her wrinkled forehead, the little bits of pink on her nose and lippies, her white sandals, her slate colored eyes that looks like…well, marbles! She gives us cute aggression and in between her bouts of play we give her as many kisses as we can and she returns them, making us just smitten. But we aren’t vain, her looks aren’t the only thing we love about her. Marbles is incredibly sweet and revels in the attention of human friends. She’s active and playful and we laugh each time she retrieves her toy and bounds back to the bed in the yard to marvel at her new toy. Marbles was adopted but returned recently for conflict with the resident dog. Her adopter said she absolutely loves water and bath time. She’s incredibly “smart and curious” and knows some commands. She has a “bold personality: she’s very vocal about what she wants and is determined to get it.” She loves salmon flavored food and playing tug of war. Marbles is available to foster through a New Hope rescue. You can read her full profile via the Emergency Placement link in our bio. You can express interest by filling out the prescreener form linked in our bio. Marbles is 10 months old, 45 pounds and her ID is #199546
AT RISK! Madam is a sweet snow white princess. However this princess has not found herself in a castle like she deserves! We hope this is the beginning of Madam’s fairy tail and that it will end with a happy ending. She has been very scared and fearful at the shelter, trembling most times she comes outside her kennel. She has warmed up a bit to the volunteers who always spend extra time with her, and will follow around her familiar friends. When she is feeling her bravest, she will rest her chin on a human friend, leaning in for some comfort. She prefers to not be pet at the moment, but does seek safety in hiding behind people when she was introduced to another dog. Madam often crouches in the back of her kennel when people walk by. Madam was found by the police alone int he pouring rain. We are eager to see her glow up into a comfortable and confident dog once she can decompress from her past. Madam is at risk and available for public adoption. Her id is #201153 and she is 3 years old
At risk!! Archie is a little meatball with a smile that can light up a room. Archie was tied to a pole and brought into us by police. Not much is known about his past, but we have learned some things about him while he’s been with us. Though unsure of himself, he wiggles when he walks along, quickly doing his business. He loves snacks, and will sit and give paw for them every time you ask. He loves snacks and takes them gently. He enjoys being pet, and when you stop he will back into you to ask for more. Archie’s dog note: Archie greets the novel female dog with a soft, wiggly body. Archie is sexually motivated, attempting to make him self seem larger, standing on his tip-toes. Archie will remain self-present with a soft, wiggly body.In spite of warming up considerably, Archie started his stay very scared, and for that reason he’s available to foster through a New Hope rescue. We recommend a slow approach and we recommend ONLY force-free, reward-based training methods for Archie. Fill out the prescreener in our bio if you can help! Archie is approx. 3 years old, 60 pounds and his ID is #201836
At risk! Jello is sweet, wiggly, and even wobbly - just like his namesake food. Each time I meet him or even just see him in his kennel, his affectionate nature shines through. At just a year old this boy has reasonably struggled with life confined to a small kennel. Out in the yard he stretches his long legs running after toys, happily playing. When he runs, its evident that there is something off with his hind legs. The shelter has diagnosed him with chronic luxation right tarsus, which may be connected to the arousal behaviors he is at risk for, and we hope is treated when he leaves the shelter so he can go on to live a healthy pain-free life. While with us though, after he expends some of his puppy energy, he settles in to be pet. Sitting right at my feet, leaning way into my legs or stretching his neck back to look at me - it’s impossible not to smile and swoon at this adorable boy with so much love to give. Jello was brought to the shelter without much prior history. At the shelter he met a female dog and greeted with a soft body and then walked away to seek attention from the handlers. Jello is at Brooklyn ACC and his ID is #199787. He is available via a rescue only. If you are interested you can reach out to New Hope partner rescues, or you can complete the pre-screener linked in our bio to have the shelter share your information with interested rescues. Otherwise please share Jello’s post for a home.
You may notice a spot on Jasmine’s forehead. I believe that it’s a remnant of her unicorn horn. Because she really is a special girl, a unicorn among unicorns in fact, sitting and sleeping in a kennel at the Brooklyn shelter. Jasmine arrived with brother Zack (placed) back in April when their guardian moved to an apartment with a no pet policy. She is 5 years old, and had been with them since puppyhood. Jasmine has adjusted as well as can be expected to shelter life, and we love this hefty, wiggly girl. In further proof that she is a unicorn pup, I saw Jasmine recently explored the pool at the shelter! My dream dog is a water dog and watching her cool off from the heat before heading back to her kennel made me squee with delight! I also heard she likes to dance, or chase tennis balls in the rain, and collect them on a bed to play with. While she came in with another dog, we unfortunately don’t have details on how they were together. However Jasmine has interacted with a few dogs at the shelter. Early on, Jasmine greetedd s dog, but disengaged and walked away when the other dog was reactive to her. A month later she greeted a dog with a soft body, but a high flagging tail, and another with a soft body before disengaging. A few weeks ago she saw a dog outside while in the yard who is kenneled near her and was calm while wagging and she looked at them through the gate. Jasmine the Unicorn dog is available to most homes at Brooklyn ACC, and would love one that had lots of toys and maybe a kiddie pool, and let her fetch in the rain. Her ID is #196415
The first thing you need to know about Azura is that she is perfect- wiggly, affectionate, sweet and loving. The second thing you need to know about her is that she is adoptable at Brooklyn ACC. And that's all!Just kidding, there is some more to know about her but that does sum it up pretty well. This girl was left in an abandoned building by her owner. She is a beautiful caramel brown, cute enough to want to take a bite out of. She is super soft. Azura is calm and thrives the most when her head is getting a good rubbins. She has been uncomfortable around other dogs so at this time should be an only, but there will be no lack of affection with her around! Azura is 3 years old and her id is #200154
