The sweetest Grapefruit you will ever find! 🍊 and available for adoption, too!

Grapefruit is 2 years old and weighs 41 lbs

"Grapefruit is simply the most loving dog I have ever met. She loves to cuddle and follows me everywhere! She is a very adaptable dog that can stay alone and well behaved when needed! She loves to stay chill, just cuddling, but also, if you take her to an adventure or to play, she absolutely loves it. She hasn't been interacting with other dogs, but she has been progressing a lot during her walks. She doesn't lunge or bark. She just stares at them. Grapefruit is also a food lover and will do anything for a treat! Which makes her very easy to train. She learned sit, down, stay, give paws, to go in her crate, to bring a toy, she knows "no" and we are working on other things! She is a dog that will adapt to pretty much all lifestyles and give out so much love!"

✨PLUTO is out of this world! 💫🪐
He's even such a good boy while out & about at the pet store! 💙

Handsome Pluto is 8 years young and weighs 65 lbs. Pluto is friendly and playful in general, but also with strangers and meeting new people. He is such a social butterfly, so excited to see his people, and loves to go out to the pet store! He is dog and kid friendly, and loves his treats & toys. Pluto has a lot of pep in his step and loves going for walks, but can get very excited (he's so happy!) so a home without small children would be best. Pluto is an expert cuddler and is super affectionate. Pluto is fully vetted, neutered, micro chipped and ready to find his forever home!

Pluto's story: Pluto was a wonderful family pet, living with a child and 2 other dogs harmoniously - despite that, he was abandoned at the city shelter when his family moved. Poor Pluto was just absolutely terrified at the chaotic shelter and ended up with a euthanasia command. Luckily, a kind foster saw this good boy who didn't deserve to be in such despair with such a lonely end. Pluto is now being fostered in Onondaga county in upstate New York; transportation is provided for approved adopters.

💙 little SJ is feeling much better now that he is out if the shelter! Poor SJ had had a rough few weeks - having a hernia, being surrendered, recovering in a chaotic shelter - but all of that is behind him now! Nothing but sunny skies ahead for this cute guy! 🌞

SJ will need an experienced adopter as he has touch sensitivity and had some behavioral issues at the shelter - totally understandable given his hernia and the stress of being abandoned and we believe SJ can now truly blossomed 🌸

Poor Wonka!! 💔😭 He is just the best dog but only $17?? His Bill is $2,853!!

Everyone wants rescues to step in - but what happens when we can't? What happens when we can't pay a vet bill and we try to fundraise but come up $2,836 short??

People are constantly asking us for money for dogs they adopted months, even years ago. Well, we don't even have enough money for our FOSTERS right now. For the dogs everyone cheered when we saved them, but who have been waiting waiting waiting for their forever homes. Who eat, need exercise, safety, shelter, etc EVERY day and if no one is willing to do it for free, then we have to pay to board. How do you think we pay for their care?

Although we have SO MANY generous fosters that do take care of their foster dogs' expense (we are SO grateful for you!!), we have many foster dogs that need regular supplies and medical care -we need to prioritize them.

This isn't a matter of opinion or favoritism. We wish we could help every dog. Every dog deserves the BEST care.

But so far in 2025, Vet bills have wiped us out and we literally don't have any more money for the ~50 foster dogs still in our care. People can get mad at us, bash us, say whatever they want - it doesn't make the money appear in our account.

We just don't have it.

So, please. Even $5 helps.

Capone has been loving life in his foster home, but sadly needs another or else he will have to go back into boarding 💔 Capone weighs about 55 lbs and is only 3 years old, but has sadly spent 1/3 of his life waiting for his forever home. Can you let him crash with you? It will only cost you a few belly rubs a day, and he will repay you with adorable toy-playing, ball-chasing antics. 🔴 Balls make him so happy! 🔴 Capone loves to hang out with his people and gets along with some (but not all) dogs (~ his own size). Pretty, young BITSY is ready for a new beginning with you!

Bitsy is about 1 year old and weighs 42 lbs. Bitsy may look like a dog, but really, she is a social butterfly! She is so loving to people, super cuddly, loves to get hugs and, if you let her, will show you what a great lap dog she is! As she is a healthy young dog, Bitsy is very athletic and also very smart and treat motivated. Bitsy does ok with some dogs, but needs her own space at home (solo pet home). Bitsy loves making new human friends, but should probably be in a home without small children. Oh, and she absolutely LOVES her toys and looks so adorable with them!

In early December 2024, Bitsy was found as a frightened little girl was found as a stray in the big, bustling city and brought to the chaotic, over crowded shelter. Having been through so much in her short life, 1 year old Bitsy was even more terrified there and that fear put her on the At Risk for euthanasia list within the month. Still, she crawled into every lap she could, desperately seeking comfort in arms around her, Bitsy stole literally everyones' hearts. Thankfully, very kind fosters opened their home to Bitsy, allowing us to rescue her and save her life. Now, she is waiting for her life to begin - could that be with you? Bitsy is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped and ready to snuggle into you!

🎉 Don't look so worried, Starsha, you'll be out of there soon!!

Poor 8 year old Starsha was devastated when she was abandoned at the shelter - and while she was so sick with pyometra, too! 💔 Despite the heart break and excruciating pain, Starsha was still such a good girl! She truly deserves to live out her golden years being pampered!

💔 Bucky continues to wait ... 💔

Week after week, we carry on with our lives, juggle our responsibilities, spend time with loved ones... but not Bucky. Bucky just waits.

Bucky's life has been on pause since he was abandoned last year. He has spent day after day waiting, hoping to be noticed. Rescue dogs live frozen and need a human - a foster or adopter - to come back to life.

Bucky is cute, dog friendly, and far too young to have spent 1/3 of his life ...just....waiting. He is about 3 years old and weighs 67 lbs - he previously lived with 4 young children (was dumped when #5 came along). In the past few months, Bucky has been so well-behaved and friendly. He is grateful for his walks, his toys, and his car rides (which he loves!). But a dog is meant to be in a home, especially a dog that loved his family so much and didn't do anything wrong.

PLEASE HELP: Bucky needs a break from boarding, he needs a foster or adopter to give him a chance to relax. Bucky is playful and fun, he cheers up everyone who meets him! It is people like you who light up his life! People are his whole world and he would be so grateful if you would let him stay with you.

Help Wonka Blue Along His Healing Path...

Rescue dogs can't catch a break! Poor Wonka is having neurological issues, affecting how he moves his legs and causing him trouble when walking. With extensive diagnostics, his veterinary team recommended an MRI, which is not cheap at $2,853! Wanting to give Wonka the best quality of life, we of course obliged, but he needs more care and/or surgery in the near future. The specialists have found a substantial lesion along his spine, which could definitely be causing his lameness. Thankfully, Wonka is in a loving foster home that dotes on him and provides the supportive care he needs. Can you help us make sure that Wonka gets every ounce of medical care that he needs, too?

Wonka Blue is receiving specialized care at Guardian Vet Specialists at 4 Hardscrabble Heights, Brewster, NY 10509. Please see the attached pictures for his medical bills and imaging.

Wonka's story: Poor Wonka was found as a skinny stray on the city streets and brought to the Animal Care Centers of NY. The stress of the shelter exacerbated his underlying medical issues, where he displayed difficulty walking and even collapsed multiple times. Because of his medical issues, Wonka was at risk for euthanasia. He was rescued in May 2024. After being rescued, initial vet visits ruled out other causes (e.g., injury) and luckily Wonka found a dedicated foster and some great foster siblings to snuggle with. Wonka wasn't dealt a very fair hand in life, but AmsterDog Rescue is determined to make the rest of his life, the BEST of his life!

🎉 GUPPY was so happy to take his freedom ride out of the shelter yesterday!!

Poor Guppy was just being a puppy in his previous home, but instead of providing responsible guidance every puppy needs, his "owners" decided to dump him at the shelter. This happy, social boy not only had his heart broken, but was also put on the at risk for euthanasia list - but yesterday he was rescued from the shelter because !

Thank you so much to everyone who cared & shared Guppy. Biggest thanks to his foster, who let him celebrate his new freedom by running & playing all night! Guppy is currently settling in Wilton, CT and is available for adoption. He is about 10-11 months old and weighs 64 lbs. Guppy is dog friendly and loves to play with other canines. Guppy is not good with cats, as he prefers to growl and bark at them. Guppy is fully vetted, neutered, micro chipped and ready for his forever home 💙
