Luca and Kiwi attended our Intro Proofing Class today. It was joy to see this young person super connected with her side-kick — the Team’s beautiful training, curiosity and willingness to learn.
Thank you to their trainer who referred them, whom ever you are!

It’s ALL in the nose. Did you ’KNOWS’????
Dogs’ have distinct nostrils. The right nostril initially does all the work when a dog happens upon a scent. If the scent is unfamiliar or seemingly dangerous — perhaps indicating that a predator passed through — then the right nostril keeps sniffing. The left nostril only takes over if the scent is familiar or seemingly safe, like a food’s aroma.
A dog’s nose is so sensitive that they would be able to determine if a teaspoon of sugar was dropped into a body of water the size of two Olympic-length pools. This is because dog noses have far more sensory receptor sites than humans.
Whereas humans can typically see as far as 75 feet, dogs can only see about 20 feet away. And although their hearing range is broader than ours — we stop around 20,000 hertz, and they can go up to 45,000 hertz — their sense of smell is the most important.
Yes, dogs can smell fear. They are highly sensitive to human emotions and can pick up on subtle changes in body odor when a person is afraid. While they may not understand fear as humans do, they can detect the chemical changes in our body caused by fear, such as increased sweat and adrenaline.

Repost @dustytaxi ❤️❤️❤️
We love scent training. The first video was a session with Felix (Dusty loves him). We had to take both dogs out because the scent was strong and had to be hidden. When we came back, Dusty was able to find the box and so did Felix. The next video there were three scent boxes on the ground and Dusty had to find the one with the scent. I love doing with Dusty because every day Dusty is using his nose and dogs need jobs. The scent training has helped a lot with his reactivity, I’ve seen some improvements. Just gotta get Dusty to stop looking at me 😂 @sniff.n.seek it’s worth the investment for your dog.

Beyond fun for both Dogs and their Person, it is critical for Dogs to use their noses beyond urinating and marking.
Smelling releases a dog’s dopamine.
Dogs are as accurate as a PCR test in detecting COVID.
Dogs noses can detect which of 2 lasagnes does not contain oregano — to detect ingredients for those with severe allergies.

Ambani immediately found and signed up for a recreational Scent Work workshop offered by a local training club. In their initial session, Zuri constantly found herself looking to Ambani for direction and guidance. She didn’t fear the trainer, says the owner, but was nervous about the other dogs and random strangers. After two searches, the trainer told Ambani to let her dog do the job and to step back, listen and watch her, enabling Zuri to gain some independence.
As weeks progressed, this once skittish Bolognese began leading her through the searches with blazing speed and accuracy. “She could care less about anyone or the dogs in the room when she focused on her ‘job’ in the search area. She was in a zone and started showing drive for the first time in any sport, pulling to the start line. Zuri would sit and keep looking back to me in anticipation of hearing the words, ‘go search.’ She even began exhibiting some friendliness with other dogs and handlers in the workshop in three weeks.

Raj’s mom @katkashani and I love seeing him develop and excel. 🌼🌸🌺 Raj is truly an exceptional dog and his mom is perhaps the most devoted steward of a dog and its development I have ever met. Give them a follow and see the incredible work that they do. Incredible channeling for a Uber intense and motivated dog.

🧬 I am doing a genetic test for my Dog Felix. 🧬
Will I learn that he’s really a hairless cat? 🐈
My money is on results that he likes to sleep 20 hours a day, barks when he wants a treat and has bad gas after dairy.
Any surprises from testing your dog?
What if I learn that he’s a Leftie and I raised him a Rightie?
Will it tell me his Apgar Score?
Who’s your daddy?!
