Honey Bottling
Bottling local honey for a client. Just strained there are some air bubbles in it. They will settle out overnight.
My neighbor comes from Eastern Europe and knows about beekeeping from when he was younger. A couple days ago he asked “how are the bees” and I answered “keeping me busy” as that’s the truth.
He asked if I use goose feathers and I didn’t get what he meant at first. Then he made a brushing motion. I told him how I have a bee brush I use. He told me to wait and ran in his house. Came out and handed me a wing from a pheasant saying he’ll get me one from a goose next time he got one.
I thanked him and said I’d try it. I have used a few different methods to get the bees off the honey I was harvesting from them, I must say using the pheasant feathers worked well and the honeybees seems less agitated than when using the brush.
I felt closer to an old-time beekeeper letting Mother Nature in my neighbor’s form supply me a natural tool. I can’t wait till I get the goose feathers! Wilk Apiary Inc.
Extracting harvested local honey tomorrow 10/1/23 most of the day in Ridgewood, Queens. Helpers get some unfiltered honey (bottle it yourself), sticky and a fun experience without potential stings! Call Tom if you can help for 2 or 3 hours during the day.
Our first hives in Manhattan at The Cloud One Hotels. Today was a small but delicious first harvest!
Learn to extract NYC Raw Honey in Ridgewood Queens on Saturday. Others charge for this opportunity. I can use help and you’ll end up filling some honey jars with the honey we are extracting. This honey will be 100% raw and have bits of beeswax in it as we strain it on a future date.
No bees on Saturday just sweet sticky fun! Call me on my cellphone (917)513-2508 to find out any information you need. Well behaved children would be welcome to help(learn) as well!
I worked mainly by myself for the last 2 days Magnanini Winery & Restaurant preparing this years 1st honey harvest for Sunday’s Italian Festival.
The rest is up to you. Bring any jar you want and fill it yourself with this golden nectar from the vineyard’s honeybees.
Same price as last year! Even if my back hurts more than then.
See you on Sunday!
Here is the Chief Engineer of the The Cloud One Hotels in downtown Manhattan helping #MasterBeekeeper Tom Wilk install the first honeybees on the hotel’s roof. The hotel uses Wilk Apiary Inc. #nychoney exclusively. We are hoping to eventually have honey from their own roof overlooking the 911 Memorial Fountains in the future.
Multiple queens emerged at the same time. When they saw each other, instinct kicked in. Glad I had the camera out and put it in video mode. Sorry for the shake, but in the bright sun it was hard to see what I was getting. #naturecanbetough #nycbeekeeping #raremoments #DarwinWasRight
Sometimes weird things happen when I’m beekeeping. #nybeekeeping #snakes
Never thought I would be beekeeping on New Year’s Day. But, you take care of your bees whenever Mother Nature allows it.
