BARC-CT rescue shot this story in Central Park in the fall of 2023. We just got our hands on it. Thank you to BARC-CT and again to all my amazing clients who joined us for the Free Drop-In Group Class on 9/23! We focused on various exercises, including leash-handling skills, confidence-building activities, and obedience training, which can be mistaken for fun games. During the class, participants could work with their dogs on challenging exercises requiring solid handling skills, awareness, and accountability.
At SPOT-ON K9 TRAINING, we often work with clients who are interested in off-leash e-collar training and stopping unwanted and dangerous behaviors. Our group classes provide an excellent opportunity for dogs to interact with others in a controlled environment. Many dogs have undergone our training to address issues such as reactivity towards other dogs or humans. The progress and improvement we've seen in these dogs is truly inspiring. Despite occasional challenges, the overall improvement in their behavior is significant, leading to better choices in the future.

“Get the tissues … 😢 it took nearly all day, but here’s the moment mom was reunited with her babies 😭 she approached hesitantly, but once she and the babies realized they had found each other… well, let’s just say no one could hold back the tears. It was an emotional moment.
A community came together for this dog and her babies like we’ve never seen. There’s a huge list of names and people to thank. We’ll follow up with that. SO MANY kind and loving souls who allow us to keep going and never give up. There were a lot of tears today. All the emotions. . . What matters is that we have them SAFE and getting the care AND THE LOVE they need!

Thanks to all my incredible clients who attended the Free Drop-In Group Class! We worked on leash-handling skills and drills, confidence-building exercises, games, and obedience training!
Everyone worked their dog through multiple challenging exercises and drills that required solid handling skills, awareness, and accountability.
Besides Off-leash E-collar Training, most clients come to SOK9T to stop unwanted and dangerous behaviors. So when you can participate in our group classes, you work your dog around other dogs, most of whom have undergone our training to eliminate either dog or human reactivity or other behavioral issues. And they have gotten to the point where they have stopped the nonsense completely or have learned to exist alongside their triggers. Yes, you may see a hiccup here and there, but over and over, you'll see them making better choices.

“After 6 months of obedience class and another training program, we were still having a hard time with our year and a half old rescue pup. He was becoming increasingly reactive on the street, wanted to play with every other dog, but would quickly escalate to aggression, sometimes the aggression would then get misdirected to us and he'd end up attacking us while on walks. It got to the point where we just couldn't have him around other dogs. We couldn't take the elevator in our building when other dogs were in it, and he would lunge at the doormen every day. Multiple other dog owners had recommended that we look into e-collar training for him, saying that it was the only thing that solved their dog's behavior issues. We actually first checked with the dog rescue organization we adopted from to make sure they were okay with it and they were supportive, as long as we worked with a certified trainer. They require adopting owners to be open to balanced training methods -- some dogs, especially hard to place rescue dogs, just need a little more direction than others.
We found Stephen and Spot-On K9 Training just via google search and after the first class, we immediately saw a difference with the prong collar. It's so clear to us now that we're better able to communicate what we want to our dog. And with that information, our dog is more obedient than I ever thought possible. When Stephen told us that our dog would need to sit in "place" for half an hour straight, I think I laughed out loud -- impossible! Now, our dog will sit in place through a two hour dinner with guests over. BALL OBSESSED, BOBBI
Bobbi used to run like the wind off-leash, having the time of her life. However, her owners noticed her obsession with balls while off-leash. She would resource guard or steal other dogs' balls, which sparked multiple fights.
By the end of her training, Bobbi's life had dramatically improved, and her owners could now breathe easily again when she was running or playing off-leash. It's fantastic to see her enjoying her freedom and running like before. Her owners have gained new confidence and skills to recall her immediately or prevent unwanted behavior even before it becomes a thing, and she is clearly making much better choices. All in all, life is good once again.

Frida growls, lunges, and nips at children and has bitten 2-year-old Hudson. Frida is reactive to his sudden movements and noises at home and with children outdoors. This was very scary for her owners, who contacted SOK9T for help.
After our initial leash handling and obedience training, counter-conditioning exercises included working with Frida safely around children's playgrounds at the park.
Towards the last few classes, the rehab progressed. At the same time, the owners gained new leadership skills as we continued working with Frida through other counter-conditioning protocols.
After only five classes, you can see Frida in a much better state of mind and very relaxed around Hudson. With time and continued work, there's a good chance there will be a lasting friendship:)

My client texted me this video of their adorable dog Sadie, an almost 2-year-old English Bulldog who is also deaf. One of the things they needed help with was training her to stop terrorizing and attacking their cat. After a few classes and teaching her the Place command, she now holds command instead of chasing after the cat. And, yes, I realize she looks so sad as a result:)
