Posted • 🤎♻️🍂 built in a with inputs and finished compost inoculant. This morning, we processed about a ton of our neighbor’s kitchen scraps into two new raised beds at the Ranch. We lyered in roughly the same volume of woodchips for our lasagna compost method. All this on top of woody debris, logs and leaves. Activating the new piles with a thin layer of microbial rich, finished compost from our 3-bin system. And a layer of spent mushroom substrate capped with more woodchips.
Then we learned about and applied our biodynamic preparations to draw in the celestial energies and imbue our love and positive intentions for beautiful & nutritious growth for years to come.
A beautiful day, lovely people, good clean work, full hearts, active bodies, thoughtful minds and community fellowship, all through .






Thanks to for the food scraps, for the mycellium, for the woodchips, for the extra toters, all the volunteers who joined us, and our land stewarding members for their leadership. 🙏💚

Join us for a FULL WEEKEND of workdays! Saturday Nov 23rd we will build new raised beds, on Sunday Nov 24th we will build a compost windrow, come out and support us and see what we are all about! We would love to garden with you!

Great turn out for our Saturday morning power hour. That is an impressive mound of trash! Thank you to our local garage that came when we called and picked it all up. Petition to save our garden is in our bio, please sign 💚🐷

Help us resist the potential loss of Smiling Hogshead Ranch.
This oasis is under threat of eviction.
We received an eviction notice on November 1st, which is still in place;
We have been in contact with the MTA who have been receptive to our concerns and we have requested that we want that notice to be officially rescinded.

The garden is having some major issues as many of you are aware. What we are seeing at the garden is the symptom of societal shifts that are too large for one small organization like us to address on our own. Kicking us off the land will do nothing to resolve these issues.
Please share this post, tell your community about us and our petition, and come visit us! Let’s show the MTA that the loss of our garden would be a huge loss for the community.

Sending out some love to all of our members and volunteers who made tonight a very wonderful Wednesday at the Ranch! We weeded, watered and harvested huge zucchinis, figs, eggplants, shish*to peppers and loads of basil.

Ladybugs, a beneficial bug helps rid an area of crop-damaging aphids, mealybugs and other destructive insect pests. No wonder seeeing them feels LUCKY !

We gathered with gardeners from Japan, Senegal, Estonia and Mauritania to harvest the sweetest figs and eat a fresh peach basil pie this morning. There's something so special about sharing experiences of harvesting across cultures—learning from each other while enjoying the fruits of our labor!

✨ Today was a fantastic day at the Ranch as we welcomed a diverse group of international student leaders from around the globe! Our visitors came from Egypt, Indonesia, Mozambique, Cameroon, South Africa, and India, and they were eager to dive into the world of our volunteer-run community garden.

During their visit, we shared insights and experiences about sustainable farming practices, community engagement, and the joys of growing food together. We all tasted paw paws, peaches and blackberries. It was incredible to see how much we all had in common, despite our different backgrounds. The stories exchanged were rich and inspiring, highlighting the universal connection we have through food and community building.

We hope that the knowledge and experiences shared today will empower these student leaders to make a positive impact in their own communities. Together, we can cultivate a brighter future! 🌱

Spent this Wonderful Wednesday harvesting garlic, potatoes, zucchini and shallots. There's something so satisfying about pulling up those bulbs and knowing we'll soon be enjoying delicious, homegrown flavors in our meals.
