I often remind my clients that nagging and prompting a dog multiple times is confusing, annoying, and frankly useless. If you have to repeat yourself and escalate the volume without getting the desired result, the old saying: Repeating the same thing and expecting a different result is, to say the least, an error in judgment.

How can we channel the need to repeat ourselves into something that will work?

By emphasizing the wanted behavior with the same fervent and repetitive behavior!
Use your reward delivery!

Feeding several small treats in a row rather than one big chomp of food will make a much more important impression on the learner, but in a positive way!!!

"I am so so grateful for Elisabeth!! Within a short amount of time she helped me train my jumpy, playful puppy and taught him to behave enough to travel and sit in business meetings with me. My puppy adores her and gets so excited to see her. She’s so incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and patient. I absolutely recommend her services!"

Lara, thank you so much for sharing your experience! Don’t forget that is is also your dedication to your pup and the follow up and practice you did that led to this nice result. It makes me very happy!

This Train Your Dog Month, let's talk about leash etiquette. A pleasant walk is a dance of understanding between you and your dog. Remember, walks aren't just about the distance covered; they're sensory experiences too. Allowing your dog to sniff around is crucial for their mental stimulation and socialization. Always carry treats or a toy with you to reinforce a loose leash or a focus back on to the handler. Remember, a rewarding walk lays the groundwork for a profound bond.

Set yourself up for success by using a Haqihana Harness and Leash set for increased safety, comfort, and durability. Haqihana allows for unrestricted movement with no straining of the neck, throat, and back and is the perfect fit for any dog breed - even barrel or deep-chested breeds. Step into better walks and happier days with your pup!

I NOW CARRY THE NEW 10MM WIDE LEASHES. Lengths are the same as their wider counterparts. Even lighter, yet durable and strong!

Interested in tailored walking solutions or training? Reach out, and let's make every walk a joy! 🐕💖

Let your dog walk on top of the bed or the couch and put pillows and books and other objects on the sitting surface. Since the surface is soft it activates all kinds of small muscle groups and helps the dogs balance and navigate in different ways than just walking straight. That is almost as good as walking on the beach and will keep your dog clean.

I am celebrating Train Your Dog Month with a special focus on petite dogs. Even though there are certain aspects that might make it easier to handle a small dog, in terms of their brain power and their emotional and physical needs, that is not at all the case. Please don't think that all a dog needs to know in life is to pee/p**p on a pad. Knowing how to behave and controlling their environment that way is not size-dependent. It is the human's responsibility to provide education and enrichment to satisfy all our companion animals' needs. Here is to making a HUGE difference in our tiny companions' lives by giving them the tools to be more confident.🌟

January is Train Your Dog Month! My fervent wish is for people to better understand how behavior works and how to reinforce and shape wanted behaviors with clarity and kindness. To me, it is completely clear that any appropriate behavior can only happen if one can shape the behavior one is trying to elicit from the dog. That requires a mindset that does not have weird preconceptions or labels, nor judgments about their behavior. I've seen firsthand the joy and bond created by seeing the glimpses of success, the little sprouts of growing understanding. Positive reinforcement requires good understanding and close observation and creating an environment for the dog to learn effectively. It deepens the connection with our learning dog. 🐾

If someone tries to tell you that you need to eradicate, dominate, or punish: RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

New Year, enhanced health goals!! Just like we humans tend to make health resolutions for 2024, our precious dogs deserve the same level of commitment and awareness of their changing needs.

🐕 Daily Walks: Allow at least one of your daily walks to be a sniff and exploration walk and not just a pee/p**p walk around the block.

🍽️ Healthy Diet: Do some research and explore new findings about providing your dog with nutritious, balanced meals. A healthy diet is key to their vitality and overall happiness. Need dietary advice? I am here to offer guidance tailored to your dog's needs.

TREATS: Make your own or read the back of treat bags very carefully. The actual ingredients listed on the back of the bag do not always align with the advertising on the front of the bag!

Let's make 2024 a year of thriving health for you and your dogs! We’d love to hear about your health-focused resolutions for your dog in the comments. 🐶

New leash on life!
I mean this literally

Let’s take a moment and think about how you can make the New Year better for the dogs!
You might say that they already eat better than I do; they have more toys, coats, and beds.
They have cute p**p bag holders and strollers. In other words: you want them to look and feel great.

There is, however, one aspect of their well-being that often takes a backseat to their comfort, and that is FUNCTIONALITY! Style is important, but if the cute harness is too heavy or rubs or the leash is heavy and short and attaches in a weird place, you might be overlooking the functionality of your safety tools for walking.

That is why I so strongly recommend the HAQIHANA HARNESSES AND MATCHING LEASHES.

I, too, like my dogs to look great, but at the same time, I want their walking gear to give them optimal comfort so they can perform without any distracting physical discomfort.
That is particularly true for smaller dogs.

I have exciting news just in time for the New Year:
I now have a new beautiful. even skinnier (10mm) leashes available in the store. They come in the same length as the 15 mm leashes and are just as strong and functional, yet they are as light as a feather.

So my fervent wish for 2024 is: I want to see fewer fancy schmancy, heavy leashes that allow you to be hands free so you can drink coffee and be on the phone while out walking with your dog. Take time to be with your dog and be fully engaged with them. Observe the environment with them and let them enjoy their walks fully. Consider their need to be in your company and give them the safety and comfort of a light, non-restrictive harness and a leash that allows them to feel relaxed. Do not underestimate how much this will contribute to the well-being of both of you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
