Are you an environmentally conscious carnivore craving a steady supply of free-range, pasture-raised, and humanely treated meat? We’ve got you covered! šŸ– šŸ„ šŸ“ šŸ‘

This season, we’re thrilled to team up with for an Animal Protein add-on to our CSA share, which will provide 23 weeks of top-tier chicken, beef, pork, and lamb from the heart of the Hudson Valley. Every Tuesday, swing by your favorite rooftop farm, relax with some stunning skyline views, and pick up your fresh veggies along with amazing proteins like bone-in pork chops, half chickens, beef patties, sliced bacon and even frenched lamb chops, oh my!

Why are we so excited about Great Joy Family Farm? We’re all about supporting immigrant- and women-owned farms that understand the importance of raising animals in their natural environment. It’s a practice that not only allows the animals to express their natural behaviors, but also results in higher quality, nutrient-packed meat. These dedicated farmers (and their dog, Golf) have built a holistic system that uses animals to fertilize the fields, which nourishes the soil and, in turn, their diets.

If you’re ready and able to leave behind factory farming, which contributes to air and water pollution, we’ve got your back. Every Tuesday from May through October, your one-stop shop awaits. Visit the šŸ”— in our bio to grab your vegetable CSA share and check out our amazing lineup of add-on partners—people who care just as much about how their products taste as how they’re made. šŸ’š

The frigid weather isn’t holding our team back from prepping your trees for spring! šŸŒ³ā„ļø Do you know why we prune trees in the winter? šŸ‘‡

🌱 Trees are dormant, which means the pruning will be less stressful.

🌱 There is a lower chance of disease and pests infecting the open wounds.

🌱 It’s easier to see the structure of the tree and what we’re pruning without fighting through foliage.

🌱 Pruning now can help promote new spring growth.

Curious if your trees are due for a makeover? Head to the link in bio to explore our maintenance services and get in touch with our team about your green space.

Despite the recent deep freeze real feels, and Punxsatawney Phil’s sad winter prediction earlier this week, we’ve spotted signs of spring on our rooftops! 🌱

Here’s a a peak at some crocus and tulip leaves popping up to say hi šŸ’š

🄶Brrr, NYC—we’re in the thick of a deep freeze! While most of us humans aren’t exactly jazzed about these bone-chilling temps, Mother Nature’s got a little secret: she’s hard at work helping out our rooftop farms. 🪓🌱

This painful stretch of freezing temps helps to kill off some of our unwanted insect pests and disease-causing organisms, as they are less likely to survive extended periods of sub-freezing conditions. Hopefully this means we will have fewer issues this spring!

So, yep, even in this arctic blast, there’s a silver lining—and it’s all about that soil glow-up. šŸ’ŖāœØ Stay warm, friends!

We’re thrilled to share that our very own Junior Schouten, Head of Horticulture and Maintenance, was recently featured in Gardenista Sourcebook’s subscriber newsletter for a ā€œQuick Takesā€ interview.

If you’re as obsessed with good design as we are, then you probably already follow for their impeccable eye for all things landscape and outdoor beauty. They just get it. So, for them to ask us to participate, can you say yes, please?!šŸ’š

Want to know why garden neophytes should make friends with perennial garden owners? Or why English ivy is so overrated and Salvias are Junior’s go-to pollinator magnet plant? While the answers to his interview are available as a perk of being a paid subscriber, you can also get his expertise, along with his team of rock stars, by engaging our Maintenance Team.

Drop us a line, or DM us. Let us know you’ve got a green space that needs some TLC and could benefit from a horticultural eye like Junior’s šŸ’š

Our hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to all those in Southern California affected by these January wildfires. The devastation is unfathomable in these residential neighborhoods. Los Angeles is a city quite unlike NYC. It’s more like a continuous flow of towns, all joined together within a county boundary line. To put it into perspective for us NYC urban dwellers: Pacific Palisades, for example, think of any town in Westchester County that you’re familiar with, and now imagine it nearly entirely burnt down. Gone.

These ā€œunprecedentedā€ fires, storms, rain events, heat waves, snow dumps, will sadly become more normalized in the face of climate change. More on that at a later date. No one is immune to this new era of disasters brought on by climate unpredictability.

For those looking to lend their support, one organization to consider is the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank (www.lafoodbank.org). They oversee a large network of partner agencies to mobilize resources to those in need. They are also providing updates via their website on these fires, from the perspective of the LA Regional Food Bank.šŸ’”
