As one could imagine, Kapooch works with a lot of rescues and even more rescue dogs each year... and that's why we also have the pleasure of witnessing, first hand, the joy that comes out of every success story.

Recently, we had the pleasure of working with and her newly adopted rescue dog, Dot. She is one of the sweetest, most loving rescue dogs we've met. Michelle opened up her home to this ridiculously cute nugget and we helped her, help Dot, to become a calm and more balanced puppy.

We're so grateful to be a part of their rescue story and, if you need us, we’d love to be a part of yours too!

***RESCHEDULE DATE!***

We are aiming to reschedule our agility event for Sunday, November 12! Astoria park, queens, NY.

It’s a free event. Come down to try a walk through with one of our trainers, on a beginner agility course.

We are still waiting for approval from the parks department for our permit but we are hopeful it will go through!

Sunday, October 29th, from 12p to 5:30p, the crew from Kapooch and Tom’s will be in Astoria park handing out treats and doing agility.

We will be set up in the field next to the RFK bridge and the skate park. (Right in front of the parking lot.)

Come try a beginner agility course for free, with the help of a professional Kapooch trainer and Tom’s Pet Supply crew.

There will be a costume contest from 3-4p with prizes!!

Happy national dog day to all the wonderful pups and dog loving humans out there, from our pack to yours!

It feel very fitting that my birthday lands on national dog day. I’ve been an animal lover my whole life and I constantly brought home strays that I found. 😂

I have always known that my purpose was to work with animals and help them.

I am so grateful to be doing what I love every day. And I’m so grateful for my pack. They help me tremendously to rehabilitate the dogs I work with. I love each one of them so much it hurts.

Same goes for my human family pack.

This cutie puppy is Tony the beagle. Tony was struggling separating from his humans, as well as puppy biting and bathroom training.

Tony spent a lot of time out of the crate because, well, let’s face it he’s adorable and his puppy parents wanted to spend as much time with him as possible. Over time he started getting clingy, howling and barking for long periods when his humans tried to crate him. Living in a city can make this more challenging, impacting apartment building neighbors.

They needed help. We started with lots of mental drain for little Tony. Once he was drained and calm, we worked on crating and separating. He went into a resting state. This is how we associate the crate with relaxation and restoration. He did great! No howling or barking 🐶✨

This is little Saint, the yorkie. We worked with him on the foundations of dog psychology and puppy basics. Focusing on calm and balance first will create a calm puppy, that will become a calm adult.

Balance and dog psychology is always first. Then dog training and commands come after. This makes the dog training part much easier because the dog is calm and looking for directions from the human.

We established good habits for Saint to start off on the right paw.

We also work on Saints nipping habits. This is a very common issues for puppies and puppy parents. I always want to teach that teeth on human skin is not allowed. I used patience and redirection for this. Patience is the best tool you can have in your tool belt for puppies and adult dogs.

Little Blue was tired after her long training. Blue is deaf and blind in one eye. Her pet parents wanted to teach her commands and be able to have her come to them when off leash but didn’t know where to start.

I’ve worked with many impaired pups over the years and they can learn commands just as well as any other dog, through hand signals and touch signals. We worked with a vibration collar for recall training to get her attention. She did excellent. She was totally tuckered by the end. 😃❤️

Roxy the Corgi is ready for her close up.

We had double trouble today, with two Corgis who are unable to coexist without breaking into brutal fights - with bites that draw blood and all. These two sisters, Roxy and Cha Cha, are bringing their humans to their wits end.

Having this kind of tension in the house with the added stress of keeping them separated with gates and doors, can make any home stressful.

I worked with their pack on some bonding and calm exercises. We focused on calmness, leadership, and structure. The girls and their human did amazing. Stay tuned for their progress update. ☺️
