Harvey, Coton de Tulear. A lot of energy packed into this guy! I met him as a puppy. Groomed him for a while and then decided he was too much energy for me and referred him to a younger groomer. Well, years have gone by, the groomer moved away, pandemic, etc., and now I’m grooming an older Harvey and he’s just fine for his grooming these days.

Winnie. She was breeding stock at a puppy mill. She was rescued by a loving couple who nurtured her to become a fairly normal, mostly trusting dog. She’s an unusual looking dog but must’ve produced cute puppies! When they got her in 2018, she would barely come out of her crate. Their vet thought she was 8 yrs old. Little by little I introduced her to the process of dog grooming. It was a celebration when I could groom her completely without doing anything differently than I’d do for another small dog.

Trimming dog pads.

I made this video to demonstrate pad trimming for an old client who hasn’t found a groomer near their new home yet. She’s been doing a little trimming herself lately. I’m using a #30 blade on a dog grooming clipper. If you have an adjustable blade then one of the shorter settings is good. Wash and dry paws first. If you use clippers on dirty hair the dirt will quickly dull the blade. Using an electric clipper is safer than trimming hair on pad with shears. Don’t trim towards toes because you may catch and cut the webbing between the toes with clipper blade. 1. If hair on pad is long you can start by removing the fluffiness first. Clip the entire bottom of paw, from toes to heel, with teeth of blade pointing towards heel to remove long hair. 2. For a shorter long lasting trim, with teeth of the blade facing toward heel of paw, use a scooping motion to trim the hair from each side of the large triangular pad of the paw.
