***Clarification for ham and mashed potatoes: ham is not recommended due to salt, fat, and heavy preservatives. It can lead to gastroenteritis. Mashed potatoes are okay in their bare form, but when fats are added and heavy creams, it can lead to pancreatitis.

Pumpkin Dog Treats 🎃🐶

Ingredients:

½ cup pumpkin puree

¼ cup applesauce

3 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)

1 egg

2 cups whole wheat flour

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp baking soda

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a sheet pan by lining it with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, use a stand or hand mixer to beat together the pumpkin puree, applesauce, peanut butter, and egg until well combined.

Gradually mix in the whole wheat flour, salt, and baking soda until just combined.

On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4- 1/2 inch thickness.

Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the treats and place them evenly on the prepared sheet pan.

Bake in the oven for 15-25 minutes, depending on how crunchy you want the treats to be.

Allow the treats to cool completely on a rack before serving to your furry friend.

Notes:

Make sure the peanut butter you use does not contain xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs.

Store these treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Gathering Ingredients for Homemade Turkey and Chickpea Strong Muscle Kibbles
Okay, let’s talk about what goes into this powerhouse recipe. When you look at the list, remember that every single item plays a role, whether it’s binding or building that strong muscle we are aiming for. You’ll need about a pound of ground turkey, and make sure your chickpeas are already cooked and mashed up good before they hit the bowl. I also always link out to my post about Turkey Oat Digestive Jerky because oats are such a fantastic, reliable staple we both rely on!

Ingredient Clarity and Preparation Notes
I always use old-fashioned rolled oats here, not the instant kind. That extra whole-grain structure helps absorb the moisture without getting gummy while baking. Also, for the parsley, use dried—fresh will make the mix too wet to dry properly later on. Don’t skip the coconut oil; it adds healthy fat without being too heavy for their digestion.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Homemade Turkey and Chickpea Strong Muscle Kibbles
Alright, this is where the magic happens! Transforming that mushy, raw mixture into shelf-stable, crunchy kibble takes a bit of time in the oven, but honestly, hands-on time is minimal. The key here is the two-part baking process—we need to cook it first, then truly dry it out. If you head over to my post on Turkey Pumpkin Lean Jerky, you’ll see that low and slow heat is always our friend when trying to remove aggressive moisture.

Mixing and Initial Baking of the Homemade Turkey and Chickpea Strong Muscle Kibbles Base
First things first, get that oven warming up to 300°F (150°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment paper—don’t skip this, or you’ll be scraping turkey off your pan forever! Toss everything—turkey, mashed chickpeas, oats, water, oil, parsley—into a big bowl. Mix it until it looks totally uniform; you shouldn’t see any streaks of just oats or just turkey. Spread that mixture out as thinly as you possibly can, aiming for about a quarter of an inch thick across the pan. Pop it in for 30 minutes to set.

Drying and Hardening the Final Homemade Turkey and Chickpea Strong Muscle Kibbles
Once the first 30 minutes are up, pull the pan out. Now, break that baked sheet up! Use a knife or just your hands to smash or cut it into the small, bite-sized pieces you want your final kibble to be. This step is crucial because it exposes all the inner surfaces to the dry oven air. Put the broken pieces back in for another 20 to 30 minutes until they look, feel, and sound hard. Then, turn the oven *off*, crack the door open just a tiny bit, and leave them inside for a full hour to fully dehydrate. That final step is what gives them that satisfying crunch and keeps them fresh!

What You’ll Need

1 egg
¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for a hint of flavor)
Step-by-Step Guide to Making Dog Dental Sticks
Ready to get started? Follow these easy steps to create a batch of healthy, homemade dog dental sticks.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
Before you begin, measure out all your ingredients and prepare your workspace. If you don’t have oat flour, you can make your own by blending rolled oats in a food processor until you achieve a fine, flour-like consistency.

Step 2: Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the oat flour and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk together the applesauce, coconut oil, and egg until smooth. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing as you go. Once the mixture starts coming together, fold in the chopped cranberries.

The dough should be firm yet pliable—similar to cookie dough. If it feels too sticky, add a bit more oat flour. If it’s too dry, add a splash of water or applesauce.

Step 3: Shape the Sticks
Lightly flour your countertop or work surface to prevent sticking. Roll the dough out to about ¼-inch thickness. Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into long strips, approximately 5 inches long and ½ inch wide. These dimensions make them easy to chew, but feel free to adjust the size based on your dog’s breed and chewing habits.

Step 4: Bake the Dental Sticks
Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Place the sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving a bit of space between each one. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the sticks are firm and lightly golden.

For an extra-crunchy texture (great for aggressive chewers), turn off the oven and let the sticks cool inside for another 15 minutes.

Step 5: Cool and Store
Let the dental sticks cool completely before serving them to your pup. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerate for up to two weeks. You can also freeze them for long-term storage—just thaw a stick whenever your dog needs a treat.
