Choosing the right travel crate is key to a safe journey for your dog! 🐶 Your pet’s crate must follow IATA guidelines and be made from sturdy materials like metal, wood, or rigid plastic. 🐾
Travel crates made of rigid plastic are the most common we see at The ARK. There are several IATA-approved crates made of this material that come in various sizes. Some models also offer a height extender to be added on for taller dogs.
Wooden crates can be custom built for larger dogs and are another great option. Make sure that your airline of choice accepts wooden crates, there are a few that do not including KLM and Air France.
Crates made of metal are a good option if you plan to travel frequently and would like to invest in a crate.
*Note that soft collapsible crates, wire crates, and crates with wheels do not meet IATA requirements and will not be accepted by airlines. Always double-check the specific regulations of your airline!

The ARK acts as a safeguard, protecting the U.S. from foreign animal diseases at one of the key entry ports. 🌍
Upon arrival, our USDA-accredited vet draws blood from each horse, and the samples are sent to a USDA-approved lab for testing. The primary goal is to prevent the spread of foreign animal diseases such as Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA), Equine Piroplasmosis (EP), Glanders, and Dourine. Since none of these equine diseases are present in the U.S., it is crucial for facilities like The ARK to closely observe and assess each horse during its quarantine while awaiting blood test results.
The USDA National Veterinary Service Laboratories (NVSL) conducts and analyzes all tests! ☑️
