Despite frigid temperatures in , many kittens are still being born outdoors. These are pictures of kittens we’ve received requests for help with from trappers, rescuers and community members just this week. Some of the babies are inside and others are in the process of being trapped. But we are hindered by a lack of foster homes.

It is deeply satisfying to help an animal in need and we have a great foster program to plug into! If you can foster for us please submit our Q&A (Link in bio).

Sparky came to us way back in May of 2021 when he was about 3 weeks old. Can you see how he still sits the same way? 😂 Even as a baby he was a spitfire and a survivor, which is how he got his name ✨

Sparky was placed in foster care with two other cats over . He did really well! He grew, got his shots, was neutered and was eventually adopted into a loving home where there was another cat. Perfect, right?

Well, somewhere along the way, Sparky developed some concerning behavior issues... He became very competitive with the resident cat and, more concerningly, very possessive of one of his owners—to the point that it became extremely difficult to live with him.

It’s not unusual for a cat parent to have to bend and sway to accommodate a cat’s preferences or needs. Unfortunately, in Sparky’s case, it became impossible to bend any further and he came back to us. This is one of our adoption policies by the way—our adoptees can come back to us for any reason. We make this safety net as easy to fall into as possible.

Sparky had already been started on Fluoxetine (aka Prozac) with some improvement. His foster home continued the treatment and we stayed in touch about his behavior. After a short adjustment period Sparky settled and was doing well!

Around the holidays we needed to move him for a spell so he was sheltered where he continued to thrive. Thanks to both fosters we have been getting reacquainted with Sparky. He’s still a spitfire! A great cat with a sophisticated range of emotions, intelligence and a high energy level. He’s more like a fun roommate or human friend than a pet 😊 We believe the issues he experienced in his adoptive home were due largely to stress with the other cat.

Sparky is once again ready to find his home and people. We believe that he should remain a single cat and would do best in an adult only household. If Sparky speaks to you, fill out our Q&A online! We’d love to talk to you about this great cat and share more baby pics with you 🤗

Oh, just by the way? We’re doing bear adoptions now 🐻 We received three little bear cubs in the Lounge yesterday! They will eat all of your porridge and sleep in your bed and on your couch and probably anywhere else they can find that’s comfy 😊 The littlest bear might remind you with the gentlest of hisses that he’s still very and humans should please mind their manners. And that bears like treats. The bears’ names are Kiwi, Lemon and Peach and we hope you can visit them soon!

What better way to end 2024 than with an adoption announcement?

All the adoptions are special and the process of getting our cats home is one we truly enjoy. Once in a while though a cat has a difficult pathway or their adoption lingers...

In Polly’s case, she had a long road back from an autoimmune disease. She came to us as a very sick cat through a lucky connection and immediately received a life-saving blood transfusion .

Polly’s care was picked up by .mio who started her on a cocktail of medicine. It was touch and go, but Polly was a fighter and we were not going to give up on her. Thanks to a strong constitution and loving foster homes she improved. Ten rounds of lab work ensured her recovery stayed on track. Her care also included spay and a dental .

Today, Toffee was officially adopted! Her care totaled well over 4k and it was worth every penny to save this happy and charismatic gal.

Paw Paw was trapped last March. She and her two siblings were older when they came in. Her brother and sister flourished in foster care, but Paw Paw remained timid and for a time we considered finding her alternate placement. We were sure tho that once she got to know us humans a little better she’d love us 😊 so Paw Paw came to the Lounge where, ever so slowly, she began to enjoy pats from and seek out humans. But her forever home eluded.

We try not to worry when this happens... sometimes it can take time to find just the right home. “They’ll be here when the timing is right” we say. For beautiful, gracious Paw Paw it took 9 months! But yesterday she was adopted into a home with a playful cat brother by an experienced and very loving family. It was a beautiful thing to send her off knowing she’d finally get everything she truly deserves 💕

What a way to end the year! Many thanks everyone, for your support. If you’re thinking of making a year-end contribution please know that all donations are well earned and even better spent here at Good Home 🤗

We wish everyone much happiness, peace & good health in 2025. Pats for your fur babies from all of us here at Good home!

Greetings from some of our special needs kitties! These cats require advanced medical care and/or testing, or are simply a bit harder to find a home for.

Seven has epilepsy and was found actively seizing on 7th St in Park Slope. With the care and guidance of vet partner she was stabilized, vaccinated and spayed. She is ready for adoption!

Toffee was found last Winter, thin and extremely lethargic, roaming a hallway in Queens. She was diagnosed with an auto immune disease. After many months of medication and regular bloodwork, under the care of .mio, Toffee is almost ready for adoption. One final hurdle is a dental!

Chatty has heart disease and requires daily medication. He was found abandoned in a basement in Ditmas Park almost two years ago. He has been just about the best roomie a foster could ask for and this lovable guy is available for adoption! Follow Chatty over .

Barley has severe allergies. She was rescued by a neighbor several years ago, adopted and returned to us about 6 months ago. With the help of her incredible foster we are working through her issues. Follow this great gal’s progress .

Tyler is a sweetheart tripod who was rescued by in Gravesend. He’s a doll! Follow him . Tyler is ready for adoption.

Popsicle & Ice Cream are siblings with eyelid agenesis. They are the sweetest and bravest kittens on earth who need advanced medical care. Follow them 🤗

Bessie also needs to have a diseased eye removed but that doesn’t stop this little gal who was rescued from a backyard in ENY from being bright, adorable and super playful. Meet Bessie in our Cat Lounge!

The last two kitties don’t have a physical special need, but they are Spirit Cats who need special adopters 💕 Purple was rescued from the basement of a nearby bodega when it suddenly closed and Babs (last pic) was an owner surrender. Follow her .

Your donations directly help these cats. Please see the link in our bio to donate! Thank you for your support 🤗

I scream, you scream we all scream for… appreciation day! We’ve been posting about Ice Cream (and his sister Popsicle) for weeks now, keeping you up-to-date on their eyelid Agenesis treatments. Today was Ice Cream’s post-op follow up exam, and this is what Dr Hanes had to say…
“We are happy to report that Ice Cream looks great at this point post-operatively! … No further ophthalmic medications or predetermined rechecks with VEC are necessary at this time. He no longer needs to wear his cone … and can resume normal activity.” 🎉

Thank you to everyone who contributed toward Ice Cream’s surgery. The fundraiser fell short of the $1550.00 final cost for the procedure but we were able to cover the balance with other donations and an adoption.

Ice Cream still needs to be neutered and have his right eye enunciated. The fundraiser is ongoing! Many thanks to those who already contributed.

All the cats are worth the care we give them, but Ice Cream makes it especially easy. He is such a sweet natured boy, a true gentle giant. Huge shout-out to fosters without whose care Ice Cream would not be where he is today 🤗

Bessie might be the cutest kitten you’ll ever meet. She loves attention and cuddles but can be shy at first. She’s a total flirt tho! Adorable and about 6 months.

Pic 5
Ikki & Meelo bonded 4 month old bro & sis. Rescued from an ENY backyard, these two are very close, very beautiful and very fun!

Pic 6
Pretty Paw Paw (1 year old) has been with us for a while! She loves older, mellow cats and is wonderful company for people too. Adopter, are you there?

Pic 7
Moo-Deng, so named because he’s a big boy! Sweet natured, mellow and affectionate. Moo is about 3 years old.

The cats and kittens look forward to welcoming you home!

Difficult things happen all the time in animal rescue. Despite daily challenges, by far the most difficult is losing one of our cats. We don’t lose them that often. We go to great lengths to treat and manage the various conditions they encounter. It must be in a cat’s best interest to let go and it just doesn’t happen that often. When we say goodbye it’s almost always around an adoption, a happy event.

Two weeks ago we accepted Dexter, a senior of 17 years. We knew he had health challenges, but we have a lot of experience caring for seniors, so we brought him to the Lounge in honor of adopt-a-senior-pet month.

Senior pets are a very special group. They often develop conditions that need management rather than treatment. They suffer from arthritis, digestive issues, cognitive decline, etc—ailments very similar to what we humans experience. Our task is to make them comfortable and accommodate their needs.

After about a week in the Lounge, Dexter started to decline. A vet visit and blood work revealed that he was struggling with illness, and a physical exam revealed a mass on his side. He was transferred to foster care where rested comfortably on a soft bed and a heating pad. Cats love heating pads! They don’t need to be a senior to enjoy them, but they are especially helpful for achy, old joints.

Dex continued to decline rapidly and was taken to vet partner yesterday where we decided, very sadly, it was necessary to support a graceful exit.

Dexter was only with us for three short weeks but we loved him. He was recognized and cared for tenderly by the extraordinary staff, by volunteers and visitors to our cat lounge.

Before he passed Dex received a visit from his former foster family who’d loved and cared for him for months. And just a few days before he began declining, a wee lounge guest took a real shine to Dex, spoiling him for a full hour with toys, churu and head kisses. It was one of the sweetest things we’ve ever seen and Dex clearly enjoyed the attention. He looked truly happy.

Rest peacefully Dexter. We wish we’d had more time with you, and will miss you, sweet boy.

11/14/2024

Tomorrow is Ice Cream’s turn to have cryotherapy at the Veterinary Eye Center in Queens. Enucleation for his damaged right eye will be a separate surgery when he is neutered, but cryotherapy is a big step forward and will provide this brave little soul much relief.

The cost is estimated to be around $3k and we are still fundraising for Popsicle’s surgery! Many thanks to all who contributed toward her care. She is doing so well and has a follow up appointment tomorrow. Check out their progress

Bessie (orange & white kitten) is the sweetest gal and also has an appt at the Eye Center for a congenital condition known as Microphthalmia, or small eye. We are hoping to clear her for adoption. Follow her and her cousin Arlene over

If you recall, Ice Cream was our first rescue from Borough Park back in late August. Purely by chance he was reunited with his sister Popsicle who has the same congenital condition as Ice Cream. The kittens were born without eyelids causing their lashes to rub painfully on their eyes. Cryotherapy will relieve them of this pain and discomfort.

We’ll keep you updated on Ice Cream’s progress! Wish us luck tomorrow and if you can kick in a few dollars we know the kittens would be very appreciative 🤗

Say hello to Dexter! 😻 November is Adopt-a-Senior-Cat-Month and that means we can shine the spotlight on this handsome and spirited seventeen year old gentleman.

Dex is the newest addition to our cat lounge and has been stealing our hearts ever since he joined us a week-and-a-half ago. He was rescued from being euthanized by one of our veterinary partners. Good Home is humbled to be able to provide support to the extraordinary caregivers who help our kitties 💕

You want to visit with him?! Great! Stop by the lounge and give him some love this Weds & Thurs 2-7 PM and Sat & Sun 12-5 PM. A $6 fee helps us care for the cats. See you there! 🐾

What a week! Since good news is always welcome, we thought we’d share a couple of significant milestones.

First, an enormous thanks to those who supported Popsicle’s surgery. We fell short by about $600 but were able to cover the bill with a couple of adoptions. She came through her cryotherapy with flying colors and is doing super well post surgery! Her eyes have already cleared up significantly. Ice Cream is up next!

And, Chiquita who was rescued from a construction site over two months ago, turned TEN WEEKS today! She’s also doing great and is a growing up to be a super sweet little gal. Chiqui needs a foster. We’d love to pair her with a gentle and playful older kitty, preferably a female. Are you there? 🐱

Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend. Tell someone how much you appreciate and care for them. We’ll start. Fosters, you are the best people on earth! We love you SO MUCH 💕 Thank you for working with Good Home 🤗
