New Beginnings Animal Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization (formerly known as NYC's Top Dog opened in 2010) that prides itself in being the ONLY no-kill shelter in the Bronx. Our organization is dedicated to taking in unwanted, abandoned, abused, or stray pets and to finding suitable homes for each of them, housing about sixty dogs and forty cats at a time with most being ready for adopti
on to their furever home. Our rescue group works with public schools, allowing students to volunteer and receive community service hours. We also work with people with physical/mental disabilities, at-risk youth, and families/individuals that have to live in homeless or domestic abuse shelters in an effort to support people of the community as well. Our rescue group is created and run by Pedro Rosario who worked at the NYC Animal Care & Control for 16 years. He began this rescue in 2010 because he felt he could make a difference saving the lives of unwanted pets by providing a safe atmosphere where no animal would be euthanized due to lack of space. Rosario resorted to using all of his 401(k) to keep the only home these animals have and is constantly looking for new ways to raise funds in order to stay open and service all of the animals that come into the shelter. He, his staff, and volunteers help to train, play with, handle medical issues, and assist with solving behavior and social problems of all pets. All these animals are well cared for and loved until a permanent furever home can be found for them.
