Adoptable Toani is here to have fun! Wanna join him? 🐶 1-year-old Toani is an amazing pup: he’s past the puppy phase but still young and energetic. He has his foundations down and loves to learn and please. He’s a great walker and he loves meeting new people and dogs. While he and his siblings came to #AnimalHaven from a tough situation — a home with an unplanned litter that became overwhelmed — Toani has shown us what resilience looks like. 💜 Toani needs a patient adopter who understands that while this energetic guy comes across as confident and playful, he can still have his shyer moments! He’s not too sure about children and some new experiences might give him pause. He’s been making great progress with our training team, and we trust he’ll continue to build on that foundation in a home. Could it be yours? 🏡 Meet Toani during our adoption hours: 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12–4pm on Sunday. Saturdays by appointment. 🐾 PS: We have an adoption special right now! Celebrate autumn with $100 off all dog adoption fees ❤️
Meet adoptable Linnie and her brother Lipp! Linnie and Lipp are just two of a dozen dogs who were left with an uncertain future after their shelter in the Bahamas was forced to shut down earlier this year. The big city is obviously a lot different than the chill island vibe, and it’s been an adjustment getting them used to the sights and sounds of NYC. While still a bit nervous, Linnie and Lipp are tackling the city streets on walks and mastering the basics in their training sessions. Linnie and Lipp are NOT bonded and can be adopted separately, but we do feel that Lipp in particular might do better in a home with another dog — he likes having a buddy around. 💜 These pups are sweet and goofy as can be when they’re feeling safe and comfortable. While a quieter neighborhood may be best to help them to transition to city dogs, potential adopters should be patient and understanding. Our team is continuing to work on building their confidence and will be a resource to help out potential adopters along their journeys. Both are 1 year old, and Lipp is the bigger of the two at around 50 pounds. Linnie is a petite 40 pounds! Meet Linnie or Lipp during our adoption hours: 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12–4pm on Sunday. Saturdays by appointment. 🐾 #adoptabledog #dogsofnyc
We’re super obsessed with S’more! 😍 And for good reason: this young pup is a sweet and confident dog who’s a whole lot of fun. S’more was being given away when a Good Samaritan offered to take him, ensuring he would end up somewhere safe. They brought him to one of our partner daycare facilities, where he was such a good fit with the “pack” that they decided to keep him around for a few months—freeing up valuable space at our shelter to help more dogs in need. Now, S’more is back at #AnimalHaven and ready to find a home to call his own. 💜Since S’more has spent so much time at daycare, he’s GREAT with other dogs! We’re still learning how he does with cats, but do feel he would do best in a home without young children. At 7 months old, S’more will need structure and both mental and physical exercise to be the very best boy we know him to be! 🐶Ready to sweeten up your life? Meet S’more during our adoption hours: 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12–4pm on Sunday. Saturdays by appointment. 🐾
Looking for your biggest fan? Meet Boomer! 🐶 Boomer is a go anywhere, try anything kind of dog. He’s just happy to have some attention and a buddy by his side. Boomer spent most of his life in a home, so the shelter has been an adjustment - but one that he’s taken in stride. 💜 Boomer does well with other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats. He’s around 60 pounds, but could lose a few of those. (We won’t tell if he gets a few extra treats here and there though.) At 6 years old, he has plenty of energy for long walks, hikes or just exploring a new neighborhood - this guy loves to walk! 😍 Want to meet your new fan? You can meet Boomer at #AnimalHaven during our adoption hours: 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12–4pm on Sunday. Saturdays by appointment.
❤️🩹 KITTEN RESCUE ❤️🩹 Tiny Howie was found alone on a street corner on Staten Island with a severely injured eye. The good Samaritan that scooped him up knew he needed help they couldn’t provide, but no other rescue they reached out to was able to help. Between his severely infected eye and vulnerable young age, he may not have survived much longer. But when Howie’s rescuer showed up at Animal Haven, we took one look at him and simply couldn’t turn this tiny soul away.We rushed Howie to our emergency vet, where they confirmed that the eye could not be saved and took him into surgery for an enucleation, or removal of the eye. Despite his young age and the fact that he was also battling an upper respiratory infection, this little fighter pulled through. Howie has spent the last couple of weeks in a foster home, resting while his surgical site heals and respiratory infection clears. He’s now a whole new guy! 🥰 Howie loves zooming around his foster home, wrestling with his dog roommate, and playing with errant bits of string. Howie is a very social kitten and should adapt well to any home! Howie is now up for adoption at Animal Haven, thanks to the life-saving surgery he was able to receive because amazing people like you contribute to our Recovery Road program. This program enables us to say “yes” to even the most dire medical cases—because when little souls like Howie have nowhere else to turn, we’re proud to be there for them. 💜 You can donate directly to Howie’s care through the link in our bio.
We’re kinda obsessed with Mogwai’s ears 😍 Like his namesake, Mogwai is a sweet and fluffy guy! Mogwai found himself at a municipal shelter in Georgia after his owner sadly passed away. With many shelters in southern states facing overcapacity, Mogwai faced an uncertain future. Luckily, this sweet dog got a ticket to NYC with the hopes of finding a new home. 🥹 Mogwai is curious but a bit tentative about the sights and sounds of NYC. He’s still settling in, and while a little nervous, he’s sweet-as-can-be. Right now, he’s just content to hang around people and relax—we get the sense that he’d be happy to be your couch potato! We think 4-year-old Mogwai is a cattle dog mix. Adopt Mogwai! 💜 Meet him at #AnimalHaven during our adoption hours: 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12–4pm on Sunday. Saturdays by appointment. 🐾#adoptabledog #dogsofnyc
Our advice? ADOPT A KITTEN! 🐱 We have a bunch of kittens looking for homes, including the adorable “state” litter here. While a couple of them have already found homes (yay!), Iowa, Wyoming, and Kansas are still adoptable—and we have EVEN MORE kittens available right now. Check out our website (link in bio) to see them all! 🐾Are you more of an adult cat aficionado? We have a lot of those, too! From seniors to young adults, tabbies to calicos, we have so many wonderful cats looking for a soft couch to call their own. 💜 Meet our kittens and cats during our adoption hours: 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12–4pm on Sunday. Saturdays by appointment! #adoptablekittens #kittensofnyc #adoptdontshop
We’re feeling peachy! 🍑 Peachy is a darling pocket pup with a tail that never seems to stop wagging. At just under 30 pounds, she’s the perfect size for city livin’ and seems to be adjusting well to life in NYC after traveling here from a crowded municipal shelter in the south. 💜 Peachy has heartworm, a treatable disease spread by mosquitos which is sadly common in dogs from the southern states. Heartworm treatment involves a series of injections, which Animal Haven will cover the cost of. Peachy will need to keep things relatively low-key until her treatment is over and she’s cleared of heartworm - we have a feeling she’ll be happy to show off her snuggling skills! We’re still learning about Peachy, but so far she seems to be easygoing and should be a great dog for most households! To meet her, stop by during our adoption hours from 1-7pm Tuesday through Friday and 12-4pm Sunday. Adopt Peachy! 🍑🐾
❤️🩹 Monte’s Story ❤️🩹We’re celebrating #NationalDogDay all week by highlighting our incredible #Underdogs. Next up: Monte! In 2019, a Good Samaritan found an adolescent lab tied to a fence in Brooklyn. They brought the dog, who we named Monte, to #AnimalHaven, where we noticed that he struggled to keep food down. We rushed him to our emergency vet, and after intensive diagnostics, found that Monte has a condition called Megaesophagus. Essentially, Monte’s esophagus doesn’t function correctly to help keep his food down. Dogs with this condition can live relatively normal lives, aside from mealtime: They usually need to be fed sitting in a special “Bailey Chair,” and then remain upright for 10-15 minutes to ensure food and water safely reach the stomach. To know Monte is to love him. It can take some time to earn his trust, but once you do, you’re in for a treat—you’ll get a piece of his heart. Whether he’s leaning into your legs during a pause on walks or rolling over for a belly rub, Monte wears his heart on his sleeve. He has a lot of love to give. 💜While Monte can’t be trained using treats, he’s very toy motivated and is a smart cookie. Monte is also a total pro at eating out of his Bailey Chair: He hops right in!Since Monte has spent most of his life in a shelter—and a good portion of that during the pandemic—he was a bit under-socialized and needs slow introductions to new people and environments. Monte would likely do best in a quieter neighborhood out of Manhattan. His adopters need to know that Monte will be on a special diet for life, and will need to be fed three times a day. Our team will of course provide support to Monte’s adopter as he transitions into a new home.We understand that adopting a dog like Monte is a big commitment, but knowing him like we do, we think this resilient pup will make it more than worth it. If you’re interested in finding out more about Monte and his condition, please contac
Meet our next #Underdog: Hap! 🐶We’re celebrating #NationalDogDay all week long by highlighting our longer-stay pups and their stories. Hap is an active and playful pup who came to us all the way from Antigua. This handsome guy has a few quirks, but we know he’s a loveable pup who will absolutely thrive in the right home. 🏡 Hap benefits from slow introductions to both people and dogs, and we know that can sometimes be a challenge in the big city. He’s been a star in our Rehabilitation and Training program, where Hap has been working on saying “hello” to other dogs with a little less enthusiasm. Hap enjoys regular playdates and group walks with other dogs that match his energy. Hap has also been working on his social skills when it comes to meeting new people. He might not ever be the type of dog that will approach someone on the street for pets, but once you’re in his circle, you are his BESTIE! He’s a big snuggler and loves curling up on the couch with people he knows. 💜Hap would do best with a somewhat experienced adopter with no young children to jump on who can help lead him in the right direction. He does fine in NYC, all things considered, but might be a bit more comfortable in a rural setting where there are less chances of running across unfamiliar people and dogs during his daily routine. Hap has a lot of love to give, and we hope you’ll share his story and help us find him the home he deserves. 🥰Hap is up for adoption at #AnimalHaven! Meet him by submitting an inquiry through his profile on our website (link in bio) to get in touch with an adoptions counselor. Hap is a foster-to-adopt candidate! Not ready to adopt? Please share Hap’s story so we can help him find a home. 💜
Meet the “H” pups! These fluffy babies were pulled from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia, where they faced an uncertain future. Overpopulation has inundated shelters across the country, meaning many adoptable dogs and even puppies end up at risk of euthanasia for time or space. 💔 With so many shelters operating overcapacity and adoptions much lower in some areas of the country than others, transports are a necessity to not only find homes for pups like these but to also free up precious space for other homeless dogs in need. Animal Haven is proud to work with local, national, and international partners whenever we are able to help ease the burden placed on rescues in desperate need. 💜 These pups are some of the lucky ones. At almost 2 months old, these little ones are pretty new to the world, so consider them blank slates! Hillary, Heather, Havana, Hugo, and Hulk will look to their adopters for socialization, potty training, learning how to walk, and so much more. If you’re ready and prepared for the ups and downs of puppyhood, come meet the H puppies at #AnimalHaven! 🐶 There are only 2 weeks left to our Summer Lovin’ Adoption Special, where we’ve taken $100 OFF all adoption fees. From puppies and kittens to adult dogs and cats, there’s never been a better time to ADOPT! Visit Animal Haven during our adoption hours every Tuesday-Friday from 1-7pm and Sunday from 12-4pm and adopt your furry friend today. 🐾#adoptdontshop #adoptablepuppies #puppiesofnyc
Liddya has come a long way 💟 Liddya and her siblings, Lipp and Linnie, are just a few of a dozen dogs who were left with an uncertain future after their shelter in the Bahamas was forced to shut down. The big city is obviously a lot different than the chill island vibe, and it’s been an adjustment getting them used to the sights and sounds of NYC. Upon their arrival, we thought Liddya might be the most shut down. For the first several days, Liddya stayed in her kennel, too afraid to go outside. She was accepting of human touch, but clearly unsure, so we took things slowly. Our training and rehabilitation team worked with her to build confidence and gradually work up to time outside her kennel, in our training space, and eventually…outside! 😎🐶 Liddya still has a ways to go, and needs a patient adopter who will take things slow and give this sweet girl the support she needs to continue her transformation. We think her adopter will be rewarded—Liddya is as sweet and goofy as can be when she’s feeling safe and comfortable, and loves being near people she trusts. A quieter neighborhood may be better for Liddya, and we’re still getting a sense of how she does with other animals. Our team will continue to be a resource to help out potential adopters along her journey. To meet Liddya or her siblings, stop by during our adoption hours: 1-7pm Tuesdays through Fridays, and 12-4pm on Sundays. Saturdays by appointment! 🐾
