Meet Dewey the Basenji - isn't he gorgeous? A few fun facts about this breed: 1. Basenjis descend from an ancient breed of dogs originating in Africa. 2. Despite their nickname as the "Barkless Dog," Basenjis vocalize in yodels and howls rather than barks, due to a uniquely-shaped larynx that means their vocal cords can't move the way they do in other dog breeds. 3. While most other dog breeds may have two or more breeding seasons per year, intact female Basenjis go into heat only once per year, similar to dingoes. 4. Their front and back sides are equally adorable. 5.
