AKC Reunite update.

GRIFFIN — While Spalding County is not in the path of Hurricane Milton, the county’s animal control is preparing to assist those evacuating from the Florida.

10/04/2024

The destruction caused by Hurricane Helene last week is still heavily impacting western North Carolina and surrounding states. AKC Reunite has donated a total of $37,500.00 to 12 different shelters, most recently to the Avery County Humane Society, Friends of Haywood County Animal Shelter, and Blue Ridge Humane Society to help fund their efforts in the aftermath of the storm. These organizations have been working around the clock to make sure the animals in their communities have food, water, shelter, and receive any medical care they may need.

We are thankful for the support of our AKC Reunite customers and direct donations received this week from pet lovers and AKC Dog Clubs like the American Whippet Club, Central Ohio Dachshund Club, and Lyons Township Dog Training Club of Illinois. Thank you!

AKC Reunite has made five additional donations of $2,500.00 each ($12,500.00 in total) to The Animal Shelter of Sullivan County in Blountville, TN, Smoky Mountain Humane Society in Newport, TN, Washington County, TN Animal Shelter in Johnson City, TN, Humane Society of Valdosta Lowndes County in Valdosta, GA, and SPCA Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay, FL as they provide shelter and care for pets displaced from Hurricane Helene. We are incredibly thankful to everyone helping so many during this most difficult of times.

News from AKC Reunite.
Not only the Donation but they are working with those that have an AKC Reunite Pet Disaster Relief Trailer in the area, to get them staffed, in place and set up.

We are beyond devastated to see the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. There are many areas in western North Carolina and surrounding states that have been completely washed away leaving many homeless as well as stranded. AKC Reunite has donated $5,000.00 to the Asheville Humane Society who has been thankfully able to get the animals previously in their care to safety and now have a clear shelter to help assist with their community’s needs. We have also donated $2,500.00 to the Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue- Rutherford County, NC as they are providing supplies and care to families with pets who had to leave their homes and are staying at the RS Central High School in Rutherfordton, NC. Our hearts go out to everyone that has been impacted by this deadly storm and we thank all of those working around the clock to help getting people and their pets to safety.
