Lots of summer cookouts end with cool, refreshing watermelon. Watermelon is fun for pets; the high water content hydrates them and the glucose gives them energy. However, pets often swallow the seeds or eat the rind, and both can block the GI tract. To avoid GI blockages, cut the melon from the rind and remove the seeds before sharing this classic summer treat.

Queen Victoria, a purebred dog enthusiast, became enamored of the collie and added her first to her kennel in 1860. Her involvement with the breed caught the interest of other dog fanciers and of upper society people who wanted the same breed as the Queen's favorite. In 1886, an official breed standard was drawn up. Collies came to America both as working sheep dogs and elite pets. Learn more at https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/dog-breeds/collie

What is feline leukemia virus (FeLV)?
Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a virus that infects cats. It was first discovered in cats with a form of leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells). FeLV can cause a variety of diseases in addition to leukemia. Like all viruses, FeLV is a tiny microorganism that can only replicate itself inside living cells. FeLV is specific to members of the cat family and does not pose a risk to other species of animals or people.
