🚨 Urgent - Please Read 🚨
We were recently alerted to a hoarding situation involving 49 rabbits in Illinois. While our rescue is at full capacity due to space limitations and pre-planned intakes, we’ve still been called upon to assist.
We want to be very clear that we cannot intake these bunnies and never planned to get involved at all, but there are very few rescues on the Illinois side that intake bunnies. So we’re doing what we can to help.
Here’s what’s happening and how we’re helping:
- A family member was initially selling the rabbits for $5 each with a minimum requirement to purchase 2. We’ve successfully stopped them from being sold to anyone and everyone.
- Our team has visited the location numerous times to s*x the rabbits, provide carloads of supplies, and offer support.
- One of our amazing volunteers personally paid for primary vetting and CVIs for 5 of the rabbits before they were transferred to the APA in Brentwood.
- We’re also providing carriers and assisting with transporting 10 rabbits to a rescue in Wisconsin.
Unfortunately, a person related to the situation is now allowing individuals to take rabbits and falsely telling them that Dolly’s will cover all vetting, supplies, and ongoing care. This is NOT TRUE.
Here’s the reality:
- These rabbits are not in our program, as we do not have the space or funds to take them all in, especially as we finish up working 2 separate colony cases.
- If we were to intake all 49 rabbits, we’d need $75 per rabbit for CVI paperwork before crossing state lines to avoid a $10,000 fine per rabbit from the Department of Agriculture.
- We would also need a building donated and $20,825 to cover vetting, supplies, and other costs.
While we are doing everything we can to assist these rabbits, we need everyone to understand that these rabbits are not in our program. We cannot cover all vetting and supplies. If you have picked up a rabbit from the situation and have been told that Dolly’s is covering all costs, please send us a message.
We will continue to help as much as possible, but want to reiterate that we cannot bring the rabbits into our program at this time, so are helping in other ways to ensure everybun is safe. We’re going above and beyond to help, but refuse to be taken advantage of.
Thank you for your understanding!

Update: we went again last night to help even more. There are about 25 buns left still searching for licensed rescue placement.
