As Shayna was recording some barn ASMR for Clover the turkey who is healing off-site, Eunice stumbled in and made a mind-blowing discovery… the cellphone. 😳 The intrigue only lasted a short while though haha. She’s on to her next adventure!! 💚

Anyone recognize this scrawny lil fella? That’s Hawkeye three years ago!! 😳

Hawkeye’s come a long way since his arrival to Wildwood. By the time he was brought to our sanctuary by authorities, he had been through so much. He was found traumatically left locked up in a tiny crate at an abandoned camp desperately trying to break free, covered in filth, emaciated, dehydrated, alone, and scared.

Thankfully, he fought for his life and his story didn’t end there. Given the safety and care he always deserved, it allowed him to blossom into the handsome and sweet man he is today. He is so full of love and isn’t afraid to show it. So much so, he’ll get upset if he’s not given the attention he so desperately needs. Rooster’s have love languages too and Hawkeye’s is definitely physical touch. 💞 Our resident snuggler and cuddle bug now extends his love and protection over the hen house flock. The ladies are so lucky to have this handsome fella looking out for them.

The last three years with Hawkeye have been a joy and we look forward to all the rest to come. We love you Hawkeye!! 🤍

An update on Clover! ❤️🦃

After several vet visits, it was decided that Clover needed some extra attention and has been staying with volunteer and former LEAP student, Adeline. Adeline has been taking great care of Clovie; administering his meds, giving him lots of time in the sun, snuggles, enrichment, and providing us with updates on his improvements (she’s the best)!

With Clover having pretty bad arthritis in his legs, we’re looking into all the ways we can improve his quality of life. At our last work party that began with strengthening the floors of the enclosure he shares with his turkey friends, Olive and Mr.T, and Lark the rooster. Thank you again to all who completed this much needed task!

We hope to have him back at the sanctuary with all his friends soon enough, but for now he’s enjoying the luxuries and round-the-clock care at Hotel Adeline. 🥰 We can’t thank you enough for all the love you’ve given him Adeline. You rock!!

A happy to all the beautiful souls that call our sanctuary and nature preserve home. 🪺🌱 Every animal we care for, every plant we nurture, and every ecosystem we protect is a reminder of the vital role we all play in preserving the planet’s precious biodiversity. Let’s continue to advocate for a world where wildlife is cherished, protected, and allowed to thrive.

Many THANKS to the established and first-time volunteers who came out for the public work party today! 🙏We were having such a good time and working so hard we forgot a group photo! 🙃

Today with everyone’s help we were able to do all our cleaning, PLUS strengthen the floor in one of our stalls, clean mats and crates, repair a trough, move Mt. St. Mulchpile, trim hooves, give meds, take preventative measures for mites, hang new signage, give treats, brush goats, and give some “rake-y” to the cows. Phew! 🎉👏

We would love to have you at a future work party! Next will be Sunday 3/16 9-11:30. Work parties are on the first and third Sundays of the month, and signups are on our website. DM us for questions. ☺️

It's time for 🌟FACT FRIDAY!🌟

This week's fact is brought to you by volunteer Rebecca.

"A ruminant refers to an herbivorous, even-toed, hoofed mammal that has a complex 3- or 4-chambered stomach.

Our goats, cows, and sheep all have a 4-chambered stomach!

On the left are two parts called the Rumen and Reticulum (sometimes referred to together as the 'reticulorumen'). The rumen is the biggest chamber, and the place where most of the fermentation process happens (which produces heat, and helps keep the animals warm). These chambers contain a vast microbial population, which includes bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and protozoans. These two chambers work together, and, when ready, they help move the "cud" back up to the mouth for more chewing (or rumination).

On the right side are the Omasum and Abomasum. The omasum is lined with many folds or pleats of tissue that absorb water. The abomasum, or 'true stomach' is similar to the stomach of other non-ruminating animals, including humans. It produces hydrochloric acid and enzymes that further break down nutrients."

She also shares that ruminant can be a noun ("a ruminant") or an adjective ("a ruminant animal").

Thanks for giving us all something interesting to ruminate on, as always, Rebecca!

We’re celebrating another anniversary today… Happy 4 years with Wildwood Jenn!! 🩵

Jennifer has been loving on and caring for our residents for 4 years now and we couldn’t be more thankful for that kind of dedication. We asked what volunteering at the sanctuary has meant to her and here’s what she had to say:

“Four years at Wildwood Farm Sanctuary have truly been a gift. Time has flown by, and every moment spent with the incredible residents has been an absolute joy. Helping to make their lives better is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and seeing them thrive in a peaceful, loving environment fills my heart. My love for animals has always been a part of me, and now I get to spend time with my friends every week—what could be better? Looking forward to many more years of service to these amazing souls at Wildwood!”

Thanks for your commitment to the animals and our mission here at Wildwood Jenn! We’re so happy to have you on our team. 🌟💕

Today, on , we reflect on the power of togetherness and the importance of the fight for justice. At the sanctuary, we see the power of compassion, equality, and allyship every day. We must come together as communities who actively learn, listen, and act in solidarity. We must fight for Black life, joy, and liberation, knowing that justice for all is the only way forward. 💛

"Because I am a civil rights activist, I am also an animal rights activist. Animals and humans suffer and die alike. Violence causes the same pain, the same spilling of blood, the same stench of death, the same arrogant, cruel, and brutal taking of life. We don’t have to be a part of it."

We have a new resident to introduce… Petey Rose! 🦚

On February 17th, Petey was brought to Wildwood by Board member Chrissy after she had been seen alone and wandering a neighborhood. Although she was a welcome sight and adored by neighbors, it was ultimately decided she should come to the sanctuary to ensure her safety and to live amongst other peafowl like Eunice, Thelma, and Freddie. 💙

It’s common to see peahens in the wild with a small group of two or three females, so we’re glad she’ll have the community she was missing. After some time in the ISO pen, she’ll be introduced to her new Wildwood family, but for now, she’s under our watchful eye to make sure she’s settling in nicely. So, stay tuned!

Shoutout to volunteer Belinda for her expert peahen catching skills! She has helped us in safely getting both Eunice and Petey to our sanctuary and we can’t thank her enough.

Welcome to Wildwood Petey! 💫

A story in three parts… 😔 Sorry Valentino, Spanky couldn’t wait his turn any longer.

Thank you Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) for sharing Eunice’s love story! She’s captured the hearts of everyone who has met her and she’s made herself right at home at the sanctuary. Her rescue story is one full of collective compassion and a joint effort to see her safe. 🩷 We love seeing this silly girl blossom and come into her own.

Did someone say more baby pics?? Well of course, any reason to post more, but it also happens to be Miss Pearl’s 9th birthday!🎈

Pisces princess Pearl is a chatty girl and will bleat to anyone who’ll listen (see the last slide). She’s a bit shier than her twin and mom, Stardust, but she’ll always come around for a treat. Pearl was born shortly after mom was rescued from an animal neglect case in 2016. Rose and Pearl grew up together here at Wildwood, winning the hearts of everyone they met.

Today we celebrate her life and how lucky she is to have been born into loving arms here at the sanctuary. We promise to always keep you and your mama safe and surrounded with love, Pearl—happy birthday. 🩷🎂
