Fun facts!
- Black is the most dominant cat color. Even if two cats who reproduce aren’t black themselves, they likely possess the gene for black fur which will cause some of their offspring to be black.
- Not every dark-colored feline is truly a solid black cat. The gene has the power to repress the gene for the tabby coat pattern but doesn’t fully delete it. In certain lighting or at certain angles, you may be able to see that tabby gene!
- Did you know that some cats change their coat color? When they’re spending a significant amount of time basking in the sun, it can break down the pigment of their fur.
- Not all black cats are the same breed – in fact, there are 22 cat breeds that can potentially have solid black fur.
- Black cats aren’t bad luck like some say! Egyptians saw them as gods and in Japan, they’re believed to be harbingers of economic success and true love.
- They also have a very outgoing and friendly personality.

August is National Itchy Pet Month!
Like us humans, pets can be allergic to many things. The signs to keep an eye out for are itching/scratching or licking/chewing. The most common allergy in dogs and cats is a flea allergy, which is caused by the flea’s saliva once they bite. The second most common allergy in dogs and cats is a food allergy. **FOUND DOG**

We need your help finding this sweet German Shorthaired Pointer's family. He is an intact male who was found the evening of 7/24 near 115th and SR24, between Archer and Bronson, in Forest Park III. He was found without a collar on but wasn't disheveled enough to have been a stray. He is not microchipped! He is a super sweet, gentle, and very playful (puppy attitude). The gentlemen who brought him to us are currently housing him until they can find his family. Please share and be sure to call us if you know or are the owner of this handsome boy!

Are you aware of the many benefits that go along with crate training?

- It is essential to house breaking puppies as they don't like to soil where they sleep. Doing so teaches them to hold their bladders.
- They help dogs learn to deal with their anxiety during situations where they become distressed, like during fireworks or thunderstorms. Dogs can retreat to their crates when situations are too chaotic or scary.
- Keeping them confined while you're asleep or away from home prevents unnecessary destruction and potential injury to the dog themselves.
