These guys are one of five pens of breeders that I used to produce my show birds that I'm now showing this fall. Are they all perfect? Nope! Do they have perfectly clean laced tails? Nope! But these birds hold more value to me than any bird I'm showing. It's important to know the difference between your breeding birds and show birds. Sometimes it works out that they work for both. But don't underestimate the value in a good breeder bird either. Can you tell they're molting?

The breeder birds enjoy getting out for some scratching around, but after about ten minutes they retreat back to the safety of their coop. Its where they prefer to be.

It's important to get young birds acclimated to being in show cages before their first show to avoid chaos.

Over the next few weeks I will start making some final decisions on the oldest growouts from this year. Please reach out if you are in the Southeast region and are interested in picking birds up as I will have some to move over the next few weeks. These pullets are just over 4 months old and their tails are almost in, so I pulled them out for some pictures. This year's birds are much calmer than last year's. Not bad for their first time in show pens. Out of these four, at least two will likely be up for grabs.
