In Good Faith Dog Training

In Good Faith Dog Training Leadership comes from patience and practice. Train to lead, and your dog will thank you everyday. Struggling with pulling? Jumping? Nipping? Begging? Fleeing?

I use training to help you communicate with your dog to help reach a more balanced and fulfilling life together. Or just all around ignoring behaviors? Any problem. Any dog. Let me help you renew your relationship with your best fur-riend. Amanda Dunmore

Getting creative with to build confidence, challenge mentally, and build trust on this chilly evening.

I came home later than expected for work and didn't want to face the wind, so I brought the bottle deposit bucket over to play a game. Oscar still needs to work on his confidence using plastic bottles and a few cans for noise, a landry basket for confined space, and part of Oscars dinner.

First, I created an association the laundry basket. Then I added the bottles and dropped the food in the basket. Then we moved to asking for him to put paws in. Within an hour he was hopping right in!

Way to go Oscar Mayer

Meet my new long-term foster, Oscar Mayer.

We have spent about a week together working on some basic training. He's made a lot of progress in the past week. He had a busy weekend (something I usually wait for), but I wanted to challenge his ability to focus and regulate his energy. I am very proud of his growth. I am hopeful for his continued success in this program.

4️⃣Reminders for your pet's Fourth of July...

For humans, it's a fun time for BBQ's, friends, and fireworks. But this time of year can be very stressful for dogs. With all the outside activity, it's important to be mindful of our dogs during this time.

‼More pets gets lost on the 4th than on any other day of the year..like 30%-60% more!‼

Spent time learning from Val at New Paltz Dog Training & Canine Adventures the other weekend. Got another dose of Relationship Based Behavior Modification course 1. Nelson's course is a remarkable reminder to listen to the dog in front of you rather than your expectations.

I had a very different experience this time because I'm a very different person from 10 years ago. Thanks to Val for the learning and opportunity.

Meet Poseidon! He's adoptable through South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter .

Poseidon is a 4-year-old Rottweiler who has a big name for a gentle giant. He has been calm, well mannered, and very aware of his size. True to his rottweiler roots, he is an active observer. He checks out new things with stoicism and a healthy but of reservation. Then he's all in.

Poseidon likes to play and bounce outside, but would rather give you cuddles and receive butt-scratches. He walks well on a leash. This guy is a treasure. I can't wait to see how he comes into himself this week.

I am not interested in getting a dog. Thank you.

Adoptable Durk is a long time resident at South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter.

I spent some time with him last month working on understanding leash manners, offering attention, and keeping all fours on the floor.

He was surprisingly polite for a big guy. He's a staff and volunteer favorite. Described as "A LOVER! He is a big boi but very aware of his size & gentle as can be." You catch a glimpse of that in the video as he comes up for affection. He is a quick learner, knows how to sit, and will walk nicely with you. He's been pretty great about the little people petting him. Good with other dogs.

Durk could really use a place. Reach out to adopt or foster 💙

Spent a little time at South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter last weekend.

This little cutie is Pirate Pete. Pete is a pint-sized ball of fun. Being in the shelter, it's hard to get good leash manners, so we worked on getting him to offer me his attention.

I reward him for simply giving me his attention, even if for a second. Because he quickly got that, I started waiting for him to offer a sit and his attention. With that, I was able to start luring him to walk on my side and finally take a few steps together. Pete was very quick to pick it up and was happy to engage in whatever game I'd play with him.

Pirate Pete would be a great dog to help get you outside and exploring.

Got to explore with little Charles, a loving, shy guy who was very affectionate and adventurous out on the trails. He enjoyed exploring the water line and following his nose. When he met new people, he was gentle and sniffed them rather than jumping up on people.

Likes and dislikes: Charles enjoyed getting in a nice run on leash and while running, would rather you take the lead. While sniffing around, he kept checking in to see if it was right. He loves treats and offers a sit. In the car, he is a little worried, but lays down and settles. He was very cuddly. When I was petting him after our walk he even slipped his paw into my hand 🥹

While on the walk, he was soft bodied around similar size dogs and even a little flirty with Cabernet, a female dog, when walking by. His body language looked like, with the right dog, he may be dog friendly.

Such a great adventure buddy! Some one will be lucky to have him along their side

Charles is available for foster or adoption through South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter

UPDATE: I'm happy to report that Snooty, aka Snoop, found a home. 🏠 He went to foster shortly after I brought him back. In an almost hail mary fashion! He was a perfect fit for another turkey tester, so they came in to foster him. After a few weeks, they decided he was a good fit for their family. He has a little girl to be his BFF. I'm elated to share this with, yall. We helped make this an option for him. Thank you for sharing and liking and commenting. This is the value of doing the hard thing.

Thanks to South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter for suggesting him for me. Jess and Chrisitian saw something in him. Something I would have looked over without their help. My family trusted me to guide him to make good choices with their safety and dog. My friends trust my read of dogs with their children. And with that, we saw his true potential. Happy holidays, Snoop. And may yall have a great day driven by this wonderful news!

Someone is fostering Snoop! Guys I'm so elated that he is out of the fire for a but.

From New Paltz Dog Training & Canine Adventures:

I am reaching out to all the clients concerning the mystery illness dogs in other states have been experiencing.

From everything I have read, it seems to be an unfortunately evolved bacterium, that up until recently, was a part of the domestic dog’s normal bacterial body flora.

At this point in time, in the interest of safety, I ask our clients to please refrain from bringing your dogs to dog parks and other training/boarding facilities until after February.

We practice super detailed cleaning and sanitizing practices that I trust, and, if we all refrain from mixing our dogs with others outside of our social group, we decrease the risk factor significantly.

I also recommend everyone put their dogs on a super probiotic. The immune system of dogs is dependent on the health of its gut. All my dogs, the boarding dogs and the staff dogs are on Green Vibrance powder. Most of us humans personally take it in the pill form as well.

We are coming into the time of year where we see the usual flare ups of non serious respiratory illnesses and kennel cough. We had one bad bought of that at the facility in 2019, when many of your dogs were pups. We’ve made it thru the last few years with no serious illness, because everyone was aware not to bring symptomatic dogs in.

I would ask that we continue to be sure to keep symptomatic dogs at home. Multi dog houses, if one exhibits cough, runny nose or eyes, and/or fever, please keep them all home until they are clear.

I’m not excessively concerned, but I do want to put the best possible practices in place to keep our dogs well thru-out the winter. Thank you all.

Good morning yall! ☀️

I hope you made it through the windy chilly day. It was certainly blustery, but the sunshine today is really bringing a glow. Especially to Mr Snooty here 💛

He is currently back in Vineland South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter and ready for adoption on 11/27.

Very quickly, Snooty learned potty training, house rules, calming down when getting excited, crate training, and staying calm in the company of other dogs.

🐕 He has been remarkable with my family's 7lb female dog. He's gentle and calm around her. While we are taking it incredibly slow(no play yet & no food/toys), they have lived in harmony. He does not watch her or stare everytime she moves(which she does plenty).

🚸 He even got to hang out with a 6 year old girl who loved to pet him. He loves being pet and loved on, so he thanked her by sitting and kissing her a bunch.

👏🏼 He is not very food motivated, but would likely try to walk on water for some praise and affection. Once he's bonding with you, he listens incredibly well. He's quite respectful of boundaries when he understands them.

💭 He likes to learn what you want, but would do best with given structure and direction. Using the leash to guide him and remind him of what you want was the biggest help. Follow through is how you build trust with Snooty. Always do what you say you'll do.

🚶‍♀️On-leash he can pull, but he's been adapting to the rules on leash. Much of my work is founded on rewarding him for offering attention. That makes the person on the end of the leash a bit more valuable. He was finding a bit more success that way.

On our way back to the shelter and feeling our feels.

My hope is that some family can see how email remarkable Snooty is. He has been the easiest foster I have ever had. I have taken about a dozen fosters, so not bad odds.

If you are interested in Snooty and want to know how hed do with your dog to foster or adopt. Let me or South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter know. Let's set it up. Whats the worse that could happen? Its not a good fit? The reality is: He was timestamps only 2 weeks ago. He doesn't deserve to sit in a shelter forever.

This is the hardest part of fostering, but Snooty "Snoop" and I have been really thankful for this opportunity from the shelter. It's been the best staycation ive had all year.
