❄️ Winter Weather Alert! ❄️

The snow is falling, and freezing temperatures are on the way! 🌨️🥶 As the cold settles in, we want to remind everyone to stay warm and stay safe—including your pets!

🚗 If you have an appointment with us, please allow extra travel time and drive carefully on roads. If you need to reschedule, give us a call—we’re happy to help!

🐾 Winter Pet Safety Tips:
✔️ Bring pets indoors whenever possible, especially overnight.
✔️ Provide a warm, dry shelter with proper insulation if pets must stay outside.
✔️ Best insulation for outdoor shelters:
* Straw – Great for trapping heat and staying dry. (Better than blankets or hay!)
* Foam board insulation – Helps keep the cold out when lining walls and floors.
* Mylar blankets – Reflects body heat to keep pets warm.
* Raised flooring – Rubber mats or plywood help block out the cold from the ground.
🚫 Avoid blankets or hay – They absorb moisture and can freeze, making the shelter colder instead of warmer.
✔️ Check water bowls often—use heated bowls or change water frequently to prevent freezing.
✔️ Limit time outside for short-haired pets and small animals.
✔️ Wipe paws after walks to remove ice, salt, and chemicals that can irritate skin.
✔️ Watch for signs of hypothermia—shivering, weakness, and lethargy can all be warning signs.

Stay safe, stay warm, and let us know if you have any questions! ❄️❤️

🚨 Why Urinalysis is Essential for Your Pet’s Health! 🚨

Did you know a simple urine test can reveal hidden health issues in your furry friend? 🐶🐱

Urinalysis helps us detect:
✅ Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – Early treatment means less discomfort for your pet.
✅ Kidney Disease – Catching it early can help manage the condition and improve quality of life.
✅ Diabetes – High glucose levels in urine can indicate diabetes, which needs quick action.
✅ Bladder Stones & Crystals – These can lead to serious complications if left untreated.

Even if your pet seems healthy, regular urinalysis can help us spot problems before symptoms appear! 💡

🩺🐾 Why Yearly Blood Work is Essential for Your Pet 🐾🩺

Regular blood work isn’t just for when your pet is feeling under the weather—it’s a crucial part of their overall health care! Here’s why:

✅ Establish a Baseline
Every pet is unique! Yearly blood work helps us create a baseline of what’s normal for your furry friend. This makes it much easier to spot even subtle changes over time.

✅ Early Detection
Pets often hide symptoms of illness until they’re serious. Routine blood work can reveal hidden issues like kidney disease, diabetes, or thyroid problems before they become critical.

✅ Tailored Care
If something isn’t quite right, we can address it early with customized care to keep your pet happy and healthy for years to come!

📢 Important Reminder for Pet Owners! 🐾

With snowy weather predicted this Sunday, we want to ensure all our furry friends are safe and comfortable during the storm. ❄️

Here are a few tips to prepare for inclement weather:
🐕 Provide Shelter: Make sure your outdoor pets have access to a warm, dry, and insulated shelter to protect them from the cold and snow.
💧 Fresh Water: Check that their water source doesn’t freeze—use heated bowls if possible.
🍖 Extra Food: Cold weather burns more calories! Ensure they have enough food to maintain their energy levels.
🧥 Protect Their Paws: If they venture out, watch for snow or ice buildup on their paws.

Your pets depend on you to keep them safe. 💕 Let’s make sure they’re ready to weather the storm!

This afternoon, we diagnosed "🐁Rodenticide Bait Toxicity" in a 17-year-old canine 🐶 patient with symptoms of decreased appetite, bloody diarrhea, and trouble walking for a few days by our care team with a thorough exam🩺, in-house blood work💉, radiograph 🩻 , and abdominal ultrasound. A significant breakthrough in treating canine degenerative valve disease: We heard many friends & family members going through open-heart surgery to repair their degenerative valves, and their quality of life improved significantly after the recovery. However, it's not an option for dogs before until now.

The open heart surgery program at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital is offering hope to dogs with mitral valve disease.
