Meet Alvin! He was presented to us with severely overgrown teeth that were causing discomfort. This can be caused by trauma to the jaw or a genetic misalignment. Dr Steinbeiser was able to trim his teeth and apply braces to help fix the alignment and hopefully prevent further issues!

NEW BOARDING PROTOCOL

To ensure the health and safety of all dogs in our care, we are implementing new vaccination and health requirements for our boarding services. Effective immediately, all dogs must meet the following criteria:
1. Vaccinations:
Dogs must have received the Bordetella (kennel cough) and Canine Influenza vaccines at least 2 weeks prior to boarding.
Rabies and Distemper vaccines can be administered at the time of drop-off, if necessary.
2. F***l Screening:
Dogs must have a negative f***l test result within the last 6 months prior to drop off. We can no longer collect the sample while a pet is here boarding.
The reason for these changes is two fold :
Vaccines need sufficient time to become fully effective in preventing illnesses, thereby ensuring a safer environment for all dogs.
We have observed an increase in dogs with parasites, which necessitates special cleanup and prevention measures.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to provide the safest and healthiest environment for your pets. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

This baby raccoon was running around in traffic not sure where his mama was 😞 A Good Samaritan stopped, picked him up, and brought him to us. The Good Samaritan was afraid that he might have been injured. He’s well, thank goodness, and will be going to one of our rehabbers later today, who will keep him long enough until he’s old enough to be released. 🦝

Clients be wary of copycat products. We recently had a client come in with a Seresto collar that they purchased elsewhere. The dog was still continuously covered in fleas. One of our doctors viewed the product and compared it to the ones sold here, and it was definitely not a true Seresto collar, even though it came in the same packaging. Always purchase your preventatives and medications from a licensed Veterinary office. What you think might be a deal is really not a deal at all.

Each month NVH will be highlighting one of our employees so you can get to know our staff better. This month’s employee is Tom. Tom is part of our front desk staff. You’ll see his smiling face when you enter reception and also upon leaving. Tom has been with NVH for 8 months. He has a Bachelor’s in Marine Science, and one day hopes to work in the field, or to teach it to others. In his spare time he enjoys reading, hiking, and playing ice hockey. He also enjoys spending time with his 2 Yorkies; Sabot and Jeter, and his 3 cats; Buddy, Poppy, and Rosie.
