As the hope of consistent warm (and dry) weather leads to more time being spent outside it is important to make sure that your yard and gardens are safe so that you pets can enjoy the outdoors as well. Fertilizers, bird seeds, and even compost piles can contain toxins that can harm our pets.

With today being St. Patrick's Day, it seems fitting that the first substance that we address during poison prevention week is alcohol. Signs of alcohol ingestion for pets are similar to those of people, such as sleepiness, stumbling, disorientation, vomiting, increased thirst, and seizures. Symptoms can appear 20 - 90 minutes after ingestion. If you believe that your pet has ingested alcohol please contact your vet or pet poison control immediately.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day!

I am cautiously optimistic that the ground may re-freeze (briefly) this weekend.

Nimbus is a prime example of how rehab is not just something for our older pets. He is an 8-month-old rescue mixed breed that was born with severe hip dysplasia. The specialist determined that it was in his best interested to have a bilateral femoral head ostectomy (FHO). This includes surgically removing the head of the femur to eliminate the pain caused by bone-on-bone contact.
Nimbus is wasting no time in his recovery. For the first time in his life, he is walking pain free and taking advantage of every bit of it. A combination of laser, underwater treadmill, and lots of homework is helping this little man make big (pain free) strides in his recovery.
