Friends of the Shelter Foundation We are a foster-based non-profit dog and cat rescue in central Oklahoma dedicated to helping rural O We're also the official Rottweiler rescue for the state.

Our foster-based rescue (no facility) focuses on saving all breeds of dogs and cats, mixed or purebred, that are in need in Oklahoma rural shelters. All of the animals in our care live in foster homes with families so they can learn basic training and manners. Every pet is spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and kept on monthly flea, tick and heartworm preventative. Many of t

he pets we rescue are medical cases, and that can get expensive at times but we never turn a pet away if we know a little TLC and Vet care can save its life. Our mission is to save the ones that would never set foot outside the walls of a shelter: those that are sick, injured or overlooked due to breed discrimination, size or color.

The pandemic’s cruel aftermath: progressive decline in spay/neuter capacity.

More bad news for spay/neuter capacity in the US. The post-pandemic Veterinary workforce shortage, funding issues, and other factors are still eroding surgery capacity at low-cost spay/neuter clinics.

Clinics have still not recovered to their pre-pandemic capacity, leading to a projected shortfall of 3.7 million surgeries so far. And this doesn't even include the compounding effect of those intact animals producing litters of their own.

The continued decline in low-cost spay-neuter year over year impedes access to basic preventive pet healthcare and threatens to undermine decades of progress in controlling pet overpopulation.

Delois found herself at an apartment complex in Midwest City, OK just before the freeze hit 2 weeks ago. Fortunately for her, a kind stranger took pity on her and brought her inside, where she blessed them with 6 kittens. Sadly, we already lost one kitten overnight. 😥

Delois is at our Vet now getting proper care, antibiotics and will get plenty of TLC while her belly heals. We need formula for her babies, and donations towards their Vet care, so please do what you can. We know times are tough and appreciate anything you can do! She's been so patient with everyone, despite how much pain she's in. 🥰🥰🥰
