What do you get with a session of Equine Sports Massage? 🐴

The session lasts about 45 mins to an hour depending on the horse. I start at the horses nose, continue down each foot and end at its tail.

Every horse reacts different so I always suggest giving them a few days off after their massage to let their muscles continue to relax and fall back into place.

Depending on the horses occupation, rodeo horses tend to need worked on every 6-8 weeks, ranch horses could be worked on, depending on the season, every 3-4 months.

Tying Up

Wi******er used to tie up on me in high school and college. It was so frustrating because he would be feeling so good but if I didn’t ride him at least every 24 hours, he would tie up. When he would, he would be sweating all over his body within 5 mins of riding him at a walk. His muscles would be trembling.

The scientific definition of tying up ⬇️⬇️

When abnormal alterations occur in the physiology of muscles, a horse may experience painful, uncontrollable, and continuous muscle contractions. This condition is called tying-up, or rhabdomyolysis, and is comparable to severe cramps that a human might experience.

But since the first time I worked on him after I got back from my massage school, he hasn’t tied up! 🙌🏼

20 years and he is still going strong 🖤

The neck takes the longest in my massage routine but this is where I find the most knots and tight spots! 🐴

Factors contributing to head and neck pain include routine dental work, improper tack fit, neurological issues, conformation, and poor self-carriage. Whatever the cause of your horse’s head and neck discomfort, in the vast majority of cases, massage can help.

The horses head has many nerves and facial muscles get tight to! I usually get a lot of reaction when I pull on a horses ears 🐴 lots of yawns and head shaking to release the pressure 🖤

From head to tail 🐴

Horses work in diagonals 📐if their left poll is out, usually the right shoulder and left hip are out

That is why working on the whole horse is very important to straighten them all back out 😊
