is from UC Davis (1981) and her DVM is from Tuskegee University (1985). Her specialty (and area of research interest) is animal behavior. Westside Animal Hospital began operating in its new facility on Highway 33 and Kern Street on January 26 of 2009. Our business had already been serving Newman for 13 years at its previous location on Main Street. Our new facility features an open concept with p

lenty of windows and natural light to offer high visibility for owners and patients. Our hospital contains a spacious lobby, 3 exam rooms, a digital radiograph machine, an in-house laboratory, and a surgical room equipped with a carbon dioxide laser (which has replaced the scalpel as our choice surgical instrument). While we love our state-of-the-art facility, we are most proud of the patient experience here at Westside Animal Hospital. With a slow approach and trust-building practices, our goal is to offer both you and your pet the best veterinary care possible.

Pedicures make me nervous, but leaving my claws long causes painful arthritis in my little toes! With Veronica holding me in a soft warm towel we got through my pedicure quickly and I feel much better! 🐾🐾🐾
Pedicure appointments are available at Westside Animal Hospital as long as you can provide current proof of Rabies vaccination for your pet. We always do our best to make sure patients feel comfortable and safe during pedicures, however if your pet is too anxious for standard pedicure appointments, Dr. Suzy can help provide other options for your pet.

At Westside, patients receive a preanesthetic exam before surgical appointments so we can do everything possible to keep our patients safe.

Many of you probably already know Teddy, shown here welcoming a new young pet lover to the hospital. He’s Dr. Suzy’s constant companion, and the official greeter and mascot of Westside Animal Hospital. Teddy also works tirelessly as our puppy support dog, kitten wrangler (He LOVES newborn kittens! It’s crazy.), delivery alert system(apologies to UPS), and our emotional support counselor. He’s a perfect example of how much a pet can enrich our lives, and we’re lucky to have him at Westside Animal Hospital. ♥️

Dr. Suzy spends a little cuddle time with her patient Copper on a chilly day! Slowing down and spending quality time with her patients helps her build lifelong trust. ♥️ Copper has been a patient since he was just a 13 pound puppy! Being able to watch him grow over 50 pounds in his first year is one of the many things we’re lucky to share with our clients!

Meet Pauly the Sphynx! Sphynx cats are a hairless breed of cat whose lack of hair coat is caused by genetic mutation. Sphynx cats are known for their extroverted and friendly behavior, and are sometimes even referred to as a “dog-like breed of cat”. But, we of course would never tell Pauly that! 🤐
