In the dog training field, it’s important to properly educate yourself. Both on the proper use of various techniques, but also on the tools available to us.
I recently completed a rigorous assessment demonstrating my knowledge of the proper and effective use of a prong collar. This test also asked about when it is NOT appropriate to utilize this tool as a test of competency too!

It's been quite the journey to get here, but every moment has been worth it. Gerard's arrival marks the culmination of hope, perseverance, and unwavering love. Despite the challenges along the way, we feel immensely blessed to hold him in our arms.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our friends and family who have supported us throughout this journey. Your love, prayers, and encouragement have been our guiding light, and we're eternally grateful for each and every one of you.

This is great example that speaks to ACCOUNTABILITY! in dog training, and our overall habits with our dog.
Training isn’t just a class, or something we do for 15 minutes a day. It’s something that is woven into our lifestyle with our dogs.
Once you get your mind and lifestyle adjusted, your “problems” with your dog will greatly minimize themselves (possibly disappear altogether).

* Master the DOWN position on cue at home, before attempting this exercise
During the exercise, praise/reward the dog periodically for staying in the down. Between praise, you should be quiet/quasi ignoring the dog.
Time your praise/rewards with the passing by of potential triggers, after your dog successfully holds the position and chooses not to interact.

LET YOUR DOG BREATHE!!
When you’re on walks, it’s ok to slow down and just let your dog breathe, exist and process their environment. Let them watch that squirrel! Pay attention to a neighbor’s dog, etc.
When they disengage and CHOOSE to come back to you. Reward the HECK!! out of that.
The results will be a stronger bond with your dog and a more calm, relaxed and confident version of your dog.
Rules still apply! Correct for reactive behaviors such as lunging, barking, growling, etc.
Also, be mindful of your surroundings and give yourself plenty of space!

What a great, simple way to mentally enrich your dog! Throwing treats/ food in the yard and letting your dog(s) sniff them out (if you have a resource guarder, make sure they’re the ONLY dog participating).
