Hi! My name is Katie, and I am raising funds to pay for my beloved dog Misia’s TPLO surgery. Misia is a 4.5 year old Malamute/Labrador mix who LOVES life, & has plenty left to live! Unfortunately right now, her life is at a standstill. She is confined to my kitchen, and can barely walk. She has been diagnosed with a torn crucial ligament in her back left leg.
Misia is my best friend and has helped me in more ways than I can describe. She is my hiking partner, my work assistant, and loves to explore. It breaks my heart wondering if I can get her the help she needs, and I humbly ask for assistance getting my enthusiastic, playful girl back to her old self.
I run my petsitting business, Piney Pups, out of Newton, NJ. Photos and videos of my darling girl can be seen on my Instagram business page, , mixed in with photos of my adorable clients. The most recent post contains a video of Misia in her current state; hobbling around, and avoiding going potty because it hurts for her to squat down. The earlier posts show many of our adventures from before the injury.
We have explored so many places, and have found so much fun and fulfillment together. I miss those days, and am trying to do all I can to get us on the trail again, & to get back to giving Misia the life she deserves (she’s a very good dog!)
Unfortunately, I do not quite have the funds to pay for her surgery. I moved across the state, from the Pine Barrens to north Jersey, and had to build Piney Pups up from the ground floor again. Business has actually been going great recently, but the first year it took time to build clientele, & that coupled with the move cut deeply into my savings. I recently had to take a few weeks off work to deal with my own health issue, so this injury of Misia’s is very poor timing.
The best price I can find for a TPLO surgery for a dog her size, is about $5,000 in total (in Howell, NJ,) and the cost of a custom fitted brace for her good leg is about $1,400. In the vast majority of cases, large breed dogs tear the crucial ligament in their ‘good’ leg as well, as they start favoring that leg; the leg brace is to prevent that second injury from happening, so my girl doesn’t need a second surgery.
Misia will also need physical therapy, I’ll have to take some time off work to get her to her surgical appointment, pre-op & post-op. appointments, & she will need medication, etc.
I will document Misia’s recovery on the Instagram page once everything gets set into motion, so feel free to come by and root for her! The sooner I can get her into surgery and a brace the better. Thank you so much for your time, any help you can offer me and my girl will be truly appreciated. Thank you.
