Grayson Erik, a Kinkajou stopped in for a visit this week!

Kinkajous live in tropical rainforest from southern Mexico through Brazil.
They are classified as carnivores but most of their diet is fruits and nectar. They have quite a sweet tooth and love to raid beehives for their honey.
Kinkajous are important pollinators. As they travel from flower to flower, drinking nectar, the flower's pollen sticks to their face and smears off on the next flower.

Kinkajous have been referred to as "night walkers".
They are able to turn their feet in the opposite direction and run backwards just as quickly as they run forward. This makes it easy for them to climb up and down trees headfirst.
They also have very sharp hearing, they can hear so well, they can detect the movement of a snake!

Let's talk solar eclipse!

Are my pets safe?
It is unlikely that the eclipse will have the potential for any more harm to animals than a typical sunny day. Animals generally have an aversion to bright light, the discomfort it causes them to squint is sufficient to override any curiosity they may have to look directly into the sun. They will be no more inclined to stare at the sun then they normally would.
The light will be significantly lessened in a faster manner than the gradual, natural approach of night time. If your pet is more sensitive, it may be a good idea to keep them inside to reduce any stress, fear or panic. If your pet does act anxious, keep calm and it will subside after awhile.
Animals take their behavioral cues from nature. A darkening sky and lowering temperatures brought on by an eclipse can cause animals to shift their behavior to their nighttime routines.
Crickets will begin to chirp, fireflies may flash their lights, livestock may head back to the barn when the eclipse reaches totality.
